Great boot, but get some extra parts
Full Tilt Camo Ski Boot - Men's
February 15, 2008
I love the way these boots feel pounds lighter than my old Kryptons. I was worried the Full Tilts wouldn't be stiff enough after skiing the Kryptons for years. The Full Tilts are stiff enough to handle speed and rough conditions well, and the flex is perfect for me. Very even flex, and no shin bang or the feeling of a stiff upper cuff limiting movement. They are easy to adjust, though the buckles feel a little flimsy and already getting loose. The liners are great, offer a snug wrap-around fit, and keep my feet toasty warm. The fit is roomy for me in the toe box, though it is a narrow fit around the ankle, and not for everyone. I felt they fit me true to size. My complaint would be the boots do not ship with any extra bails, which I managed to break one in the first week of skiing them. To give them credit, I was bushwacking out of the backcountry when I severed the cable on a low stick. In normal ski resort conditions, the bails should hold up fine. If Full Tilt could at least include some extra sets of bails and buckles, this would be one of the better boots available. Bottom line: This is great for freeriding, and for those that want a even flex and light weight. The liner is great, though the buckles and bails could use some revision.

Best rockered pow ski around
Black Diamond Megawatt Ski 08/09 Model
February 15, 2008
Anonymous nailed the review, and I had to add some thoughts. I set mine up with the new Salomon STH 916, and this set up is really light for the size of the ski. It has recessed channels running down both sides of the topsheet decreasing the weight, and even making them easy pick up. I love how the tail is not rockered, and only a twin tip. The back of the ski is stiff enough to support a backseat landing, and no wheelie effect like the other rockered skis available. Due to the rockered tip, they are so easy to turn, and ski shorter than a normal 188cm ski. The tip rides over everything, and even makes chunder and glop fun to ski. So far they are turning into my everyday ski, as they handled dust on crust and firm conditions very well. They even rail groomers, and this ski really does everything better than a ski of this size would be expected to. Black Diamond nailed it with the design, and this will be the ski everyone wants next season. Get them while they are still around, and have fun leaving everyone behind in your wake.

Gold Iridium lens
Oakley A Frame Goggle Replacement Lenses
January 2, 2008
I really like how versatile these lens are. It can be overcast or sunny, and still preform well. They are a cheap way to get your old A Frames to preform new like new again, expecially if you have tried to wipe out the inside of the lens (which is a bad thing to do). I would like to add that the replacement lens are not practical to be changed out frequently. After the first time you replace them, you will not want to try it again.

Great water bottle
CamelBak Better Bottle .75L Water Bottle

This water bottle is great for the reasons it's almost impossible to spill, it's easy to drink while driving, and simple to take apart and clean.

Great jacket
Salomon 900 Hoody Zip Jacket - Men's
July 15, 2007
This is a great jacket for fair weather ski days. It blocks the wind well, and is waterproof enough for moderate rain or snow. I did wear this in snowstorms with just a base layer and light fleece, and never got cold. It's really comfortable, easy to move around in, and great for those days on the tram. It's definitely a resort jacket though, as it's missing a lot of the features that the more technical backcountry jackets offer. The jacket could use a inside pocket or two, as well as a powder skirt. There are not any vents with this jacket, so if you overheat a lot, your going to have to keep unzipping the jacket. I found that the jacket fit on the small size, and I ended up buying a large after trying on the medium. (5'7, 150lbs) What I like the best about the jacket, is if I snag a tree branch while skiing, the jacket doesn't tear or rip. Basically, it's a functional, moderately priced, and simple jacket that is nice to have around as a alternative to the more traditional ski jacket. I would buy it again or recommend it

Great gloves
Salomon 900 Hoody Zip Jacket - Men's

The gloves fit and flex well. I really like that when they get wet, that they will not stain my hands. Overall, I really like these gloves, especially for the price.

Great Goggles
Oakley A Frame Goggle
December 17, 2006
I've been using the A-frames with my Giro 9 helmet for years, and I really like the way this set-up fits my small face. I never have fogging issues or problems with wind leaking through the goggle foam. Make sure that you do not wipe out the inside of the goggle lens, because it will ruin the anti-fogging. I also really like the Iridium Lens, which works really well when it's still snowing, but the sun keeps peaking through the clouds.

Great pack!
DAKINE Poacher Backpack - 2300 cu in
December 17, 2006
I've been using this model for years, and the pack has held up well to the abuse. My favorite feature is the ability to access the pack by the 2 zippers on the back panel. The frame is sturdy, and the pack is able to carry enough for a full day in the backcountry. This pack is perfect for those who like to carry a little extra, like a first aid kit, puffy jacket, lunch, and lots of liquids.

Great Helmet
Giro Nine.9 Helmet
December 17, 2006
I like this helmet model so much, I own 2. Fits perfect with the Oakley A Frame goggles, and I really like the music compatibility. The best part is the mute button, which is easy to use, especially when you need to hear that person on the chairlift next to you. That also works really well when you do not want to listen to that person, and slyly un-mute the music. The venting works well, but you have to make sure not to loose the vent flaps.

Great movie
Teton Gravity Research Mind the Addiction DVD
December 17, 2006
Of all the TGR movies, this is my favorite. I really enjoyed a look into what the athletes were thinking and feeling before they were dropping these huge lines. The POV cameras were great to watch, the soundtrack is inspired (Bon Jovi!), and Micah Black's segment was my favorite. If your looking for a unique ski movie, try this one.

It's all about the powder!
Solitude 1 Day Lift Ticket
December 17, 2006
If your looking for a ski area in Utah that you can find powder for days after the storm, head up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Solitude. The resort is rarely crowded, the terrain is challenging, and the powder is deep.
