Icebreaker GT 150 Rush Tank Top - Women's

Icebreaker GT 150 Rush Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2012

I wanted to continue to wear Merino wool during the hotter months and during workouts, but my short sleeved merino shirts were too hot, even the lighter weight ones. I ordered these tanks thinking it would be better option. I had originally ordered a small in this tank top. I am 5'4" 118lbs and a 34b bust. I have broad shoulders and a wide back. While the small fit, I felt it was a little too clingy for my liking. It seemed constricting in the armpits. Even my fiance commented about how it looked tight in the arms. I ordered a M and it fits looser (how I prefer my wool tops to fit), the only thing is the seam under the bust lies lower so it kind of looks baggy in that area. I don't mind, because I feel way more comfortable with the larger fit. I do love the color Citrine and the fact that I keep cool with the looser it, and it doesn't reek of sweat after a run in the sun. I hope Icebreaker looks into creating a tank without the seam at the bust.

Best running short by far

Arc'teryx Solita Short - Women's

Arc'teryx Solita Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 2, 2012

Arc'teryx is an amazing company that makes quality activewear. These shorts are lightweight, streamline, and flattering. Oh and they're comfortable. I am 5'4" approx 118lbs and the small fit me well. I tend to run between sizes in most outdoor brands. I usually wear a 2 or 26 in bottoms. I did try the XS and they were super short and you could see visible lines from the brief. The small is still a flattering length on me. These will probably be my go to workout short from now on. The price runs a bit high, but I think it's worth it.

Five Ten Guide Tennie Shoe - Women's

March 16, 2012

How do these shoes fit? I wear a 6 in street shoes, and 6.5 in running shoes. I am trying to find a pair of approach shoes to replace my La sportiva boulder X shoes which were too small in both the women's 6 and 6.5. How does the sizing run compared to brands like La Sportiva or Scarpa?

Best all around capris

prAna Ashley Capri Legging - Women's

prAna Ashley Capri Legging - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 10, 2012

Great capris. The material is thicker so it can get hot. I use these for climbing and yoga and they stretch with movement while still retaining their shape. No unflattering camel toe in the front and the rise is high enough that I don't have to worry about by buttcrack peaking through. As far as the sizing goes I think I am between an XS and Small as I own Prana active bottoms from different seasons in XS that fit fine. I also wear size 2 in their pants consistently. However, I found the extra small in these were see through when I got them on. Not good. For reference I am 5'4" and 118 lbs. I will probably keep buying these for my standard active legging/capri/knickers because I love them so much!

Prana knickers are the best!

prAna Mackenzie Knicker - Women's

prAna Mackenzie Knicker - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 31, 2011

I have these along with the Audrey and Mara style knickers by Prana. These fit slightly tighter in the thighs. But, I love all of them just the same. These are form fitting but not unflattering in the crotch. I have noticed lots of tight fitting capris tend to give off that "camel-toe" appearance, which I prefer avoiding and these do not. I usually wear a U.S. women's 2 or 26 in pants. With Prana I find that XS fits me best. I am 5'4 115-117lbs for reference.

A headband that works!

prAna Burnout Headband - Women's

prAna Burnout Headband - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 18, 2011

For some odd reason I can never get headbands to stay on my head...except for this one. Maybe it's the taper at the bottom, but this one doesn't budge even when I'm active. Would love to purchase more colors once they're in stock!

Kept me warm...when I didn't want to be

SmartWool NTS Microweight T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

SmartWool NTS Microweight T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 17, 2011

I purchased this shirt because I was looking for something that would keep me dry in hot weather, and something that wouldn't smell funky after a few days of wear. This shirt is cute and form fitting. For reference I am 5'4" 117 lbs and 34b and I prefer my shirts to be a little on the loose side, this is fitting, but not constricting. It feels a bit heavy and I can't imagine it keeping me cool is hot weather. I compared this to the texture of my BF's Icebreaker superfine 150 tech lite T and the texture of the icebreaker is pretty darn close to cotton! Looking forward to purchasing the women's version.

Update: Used this in Tuolumne meadows this weekend, it was about 80 degrees, I got very hot in this shirt. This shirt does wick sweat away, but I do not recommend this in warm weather. I am going to keep it because I really ended up liking the fit and color, but probably won't be repurchasing.

La Sportiva Miura Vibram XS Grip2 Climbing Shoe - Women's

July 27, 2011

I have tried on a friend's men's version in a size 36 1/2, which fit pretty snug, but they were comfortable. The weird thing is I wear a US women's size 6 in street shoes and 6.5 in sneakers and hiking shoes. I've read many reviews that one should size down as much as two sizes. I can't imagine my foot fitting in a size 34. I am also a bit confused on the sizing. Is this Italian sizing? Because I thought a 36 is equivalent to a 6, and according to the La Sportiva size chart a 36 is actually a 5.5. I am pretty confused :). Any suggestions on the sizing for me?

Breathable!

Petzl Selena Harness - Women's

Petzl Selena Harness - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 June 16, 2010

I had to edit my review for this harness. While it was super lightweight, breathable, and easy to get on and off, hanging in it was not pleasant.First off, the sizing is not typical, but the Petzl website is very precise on the measurements, so if you are debating on which size to get, look at their measurements on their website, it's pretty dead on.I usually buy size small in harnesses, the small in this was too tight for my legs, and my waist. I really had to force the small to get past my hips. My legs were strangulated by the non-adjustable leg loops. I tried the medium which fit on the legs, with some room to spare and the waist belt needed to be cinched down quite a bit. It was comfortable wearing around. Now hanging in it is a different story. When I hung in this harness to test it out the leg loops cut into the backs of my thighs. I think this may have to do with the fact the leg loops were not snug. This was a deal breaker for me.Perhaps if this were a better fit it would have been more comfortable, and if your interested in this style, but want adjustable leg loops look into the Petzl "Luna",

Ideal for ponytails.

Petzl Elia Climbing Helmet - Women's

Petzl Elia Climbing Helmet - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 15, 2010

This helmet is cool, but I ended up returning it for the petzl Elio. The padding is more cush than the Elio version. You can also, remove the padding to wash it.

Now, I didn't like the space for the ponytail. Which kind of leaves an exposed portion of you head. Probably not a big safety issue, but I prefer having more coverage.

Guess I'll have to wear a lower ponytail with my Elio.

Great Pants!

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Pant - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 15, 2010

These pants are lightweight and perfect for cool days or warm days when you want to protect your legs. These do not have any stretch in them, but climbing in them isn't a problem. They cinch at the bottom which is good if you don't want the leg holes to get caught in anything. As far as sizing goes, they are a little narrow in the waist which can be a problem for someone with bigger hips trying to get them on, since the fabric does not stretch.

Piece of Mind

Metolius Safe Tech Deluxe Harness Improved - Women's

Metolius Safe Tech Deluxe Harness Improved - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 15, 2010

Prior to using this harness I was wearing a lighter weight harness, with non-adjustable leg loops by wild country. I purchased that one 10 years ago and have outgrown it.

I was debating between replacing it with another lightweight harness, or a harness that was bomber and comfy.

It basically came down to deciding between the Arcteryx r280 or the Metolius safe-tech deluxe.

Because I climb in Yosemite, I imagined the Arcteryx, being such light and thin material would wear down easily when rubbing against granite when trying to scoot up chimneys. So I went with Metolius.

The first time I put it on, It felt cumbersome and heavy. I was so used to my old wild country one. But, after wearing yesterday in Yosemite Valley, I was much impressed. It was comfortable, and best of all I felt secure, as if I had a piece of armour on.

I don't mind gaining a few ounces for that feeling of confidence when having it on. I also like the fact that the gear and haul loops are full strength.
