Salomon Elite 8 Skate Ski

September 7, 2009

The short answer is no. If you are really good at waxing you could take a skate ski and make it work for classic, but it would be less than ideal. A waxless classic ski (the kind with scales in the middle) would be extremely taxing to skate with. If you are looking for some good cross training for cycling and go skate style. I ditched the trainer years ago in favor of skate skis and loved it. It is much easier to get an aerobic workout from skating right away than it is from classic style. I would also suggest you take a lesson so you are less likely to form bad habits that become hard to break down the road.

Colnago C50 Carbon Road Frameset

August 24, 2009

It used to be that traditional frames flexed a little bit more since the overall geometry was bigger. However, with as stiff as frames have been getting the difference in flex between the two would be minimal. Sloping frames do tend to react a little quicker when cornering and accelerating than traditional frames but it sounds like that's not a big priority for you.
I would say go for the traditional if you're going to be doing longer rides without racing much.

Montrail Mountain Masochist Trail Running Shoe - Women's

July 3, 2009

I own the masocshist's as well as the montrail streaks and for the non-technical stuff I prefer the streaks. The Masochist are a little bit stiffer and a little bit narrower than the Streaks but they weigh the same. If you're looking for a similar fit but a little more comfort then go with the Streaks, you won't be disiappointed.

I own this headlamp and I have used it until the batteries have completely died. When the battery is getting low the light will blink twice approximately 10 secs. after turning it on. There is also a little orange light on the side that indicates a low battery.
I left it on the highest setting after the low battery warning and it lasted about 2.5 hours. Of course if I had it on the lower light setting it would have lasted longer.

Shimano America Dura-Ace Hollowtech Double Crankset

May 20, 2009

Not completely true.
1st, if you change to this particular crankset you will need to get a matching bottom bracket.
2nd, you might be able to tune the front derailleur to shift a double instead of a triple but it will not be very smooth or consistent, you would be better off getting a front derailleur for a double instead.
3rd, your current rear derailleur is a long cage model which is used to handle the longer chain req'd by triples. Running a double would shorten the chain and cause your current derailleur to not function properly.

Good for the Park

Salomon XT Hawk Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Salomon XT Hawk Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 May 15, 2009

My favorite attribute of the shoe is how light and comfy it felt. My 8.5's weighed in at 11 oz. even. It felt like a running shoe, not a trail shoe, and as a consequence the XT Hawk offered little protection under foot on technical rocky terrain. The forefoot felt close to the ground but the heel was little more elevated than I prefer for trail running. The forefoot of the shoe feels completely disconnected from the mid to rear part of the shoe, and flexed considerably more than I am used to, giving me a blister at the flex point in the arch of both feet. The shoe felt right at home on the pavement that I used to connect to a separate section of trail and would serve someone well that needs a shoe for non-technical trails and occasional road running.
Pros: lightweight, lacing system, nice insoles, toe protection.
Cons: no protection under foot, considerable mid-sole flex.

Easton EC90 SLX Wheel Set - Tubular

May 14, 2009

Based on your weight I would definitely say yes. However, riding tubulars as your "most occasion" kind of wheelset is an expensive tire option, since you would have to carry an extra tubular tire in case of a flat. You might want to consider a clincher wheelset instead that takes a standard tube.

Good, despite being slightly unconventional

Suunto Altimax Sport Altimeter Watch

Suunto Altimax Sport Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 3 May 11, 2009

I bought this specifically for trail running and being able to track vertical gain. Initially I purchased the Vector for this same purpose but once I realized that I could not view the current logbook (the amount of ascent and descent) that I was recording I returned it for the Altimax, willing to give up the compass feature. I have found after several outings of 3000' to 6500' of vertical that it's been within +/- 100' on known routes.
Cons: I have small wrists and it's a large watch, both in diameter and depth. The stopwatch is a bit quirky. The seconds read on the top line, time of day on the middle line, and hours and mins on the bottom line. The split timer doesn't work like a normal stopwatch, where it starts a new timer, this one just pauses it so you can read the display while it continues to run in the background. Getting to the stopwatch function requires at least two to four pushes of the button (depending on the mode you're in). Starting/stopping the logbook and stopwatch are two separate functions (not a deal breaker, just a pain sometimes if you forget).
Good watch, very accurate in my experience, just a little cumbersome to navigate.

Unfortunately height is not the only factor for determining pole length. Shimano America Ultegra Hollowtech Double Crankset

March 13, 2009

You can use this with an 8sp setup and it will work pretty good. If you want it to work better then use a 9sp chain, which will work with an 8sp cassette just fine. The only concern with that is that the cassette isn't too worn out and mated to the chain that's currently on there.I also own an old steel frame that I truly love and one thing to consider is that a stiffer crankset will only expose how "soft" the steel has become in your frame. You can check this by standing next to your bike and tilting it away from your body. Put the pedal closest to you in the 6 o'clock position and step on it while looking down at the bottom bracket. Check for flex in the frame or crankset.

If the stationary bike is a bike that you can ride on the road and you are using it on a trainer then you could use something like this.

DAKINE Bike Bag DO NOT USE

February 14, 2009

I don't own the bag, but given the dimensions at 30" wide I would say it would be a pretty tight fit. I think you would definitely have to remove the tires in order to make it fit, and even then the rims would be stretching the bag to it's limit. FYI, a bag for a road bike should work with 29er since the rims are the same size, just make sure to check the length of the frame against the length of the bag.

If you want glide wax that can be applied without ironing try one of these:http://www.backcountry.com/store/TOK0007/Toko-Express-Blocx-Rub-on-Wax.htmlhttp://www.backcountry.com/store/TOK0006/Toko-Express-Pocket-Universal-Liquid-Fluoro-Wax.htmlDakine has a few but I don't have any experience with that brand.

Nathan HPL #020 Race Vest

January 25, 2009

I extended the straps on mine all the way and the measurement came to 56in. You should measure around the broadest part of you chest to see if it exceeds 56in. If so then it wouldn't fit.

DAKINE Bike Bag DO NOT USE

January 25, 2009

There shouldn't be any reason a BMX wouldn't fit in this bag. Measure the wheel base of your bike (drop out to drop out) just to make sure that it doesn't exceed the length of the bag, 46in.

Mavic Deemax UST MTB Wheels

January 20, 2009

No, these wheels are for use with disc brakes only. The Tarpon uses v-brakes. When you are looking for wheels check out the hub/brake compatibility on the right side of the screen, for your bike it should read "Rim Brake".http://www.backcountry.com/store/MAV0010/Mavic-Crossmax-ST-Wheel.html

SmartWool Adrenaline Medium Crew Sock - Women's

January 17, 2009

The Mediums are the heaviest weight in the Adrenaline line. The next step up is the Trekking line which is heavier.FYI, I was a big fan of the adrenaline's and switched to the PhD's. I was disappointed with how long they lasted, lack of cushion, and the amount of dirt that would accumulate on my foot. A friend of mine suggested the Darn Tough brand and I've never looked back. Same price range as the Adrenaline's but perform much better than the PhD's or Adrenaline's. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

Alpina BC 200L Touring Ski Boot - Women's

January 17, 2009

It's hard to say if these would feel like your old boots, but these are pretty decent for the price. This boot is compatible with the NNN binding system that it sounds like you're currently using.

Package Salomon Elite 6 Vitane Grip Classic Ski Package

January 17, 2009

174's are rated for up to 133lbs, 182's are good from 133 - 154lbs. If you are going to be skiing a higher percentage of ungroomed terrain vs. groomed then I would recommend 182's. 174's if you will be on groomed trails more.

Salomon SNS Profil Auto Binding - Women's

January 15, 2009

In short yes. The thing to look for on the boot is a single bar that locks on to the binding near the front of the boot. The other type of Salomon binding is called the SNS Pilot and has two attachment points instead of just one.

CamelBak Thermal Control Kit

January 14, 2009

If the original has never been removed it can be little tight. Run the attachment point under some cold water, grab the tube near the attachment point to the bladder and give it a good pull. To put the new one on I usually just get the ends wet and push it on while giving it little 1/4 turns back and forth.

Northwave Bike Lizzard Cycling Shoes - Women's

January 14, 2009

These would work fine. MTB shoes are a bit easier to walk around in than road shoes. These shoes do not come with cleats so you will need to pick up some of those as well. Check the bikes at the gym for the type of pedal, more than likely it will be an SPD. Cleats can be found here:http://www.backcountry.com/store/SHI0122/Shimano-America-SPD-Cleat-Sets.html?

Salomon Pro Combi Pilot Boot

January 9, 2009

SNS Pilot. However, I have successfully used my pilot boots with some skis that had profil bindings, you just can't use profil boots with pilot bindings. Hopefully that makes sense.
