Arc'teryx Alpha SV Tall Jacket - Men's

January 4, 2012

My jacket has same labeling as Rico, i.e. paper price tag says "tall", but label inside the jacket doesn't (size large in my case). I'm pretty sure mine is tall based on the dimensions. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that none of the Alphas have a powder skirt, tall or otherwise. Looking at the inside of the jacket, I can't see how you would put one in without compromising the clean design. Hopefully someone from Arc will know the answer.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Tall Jacket - Men's

January 4, 2012

Strange. The jacket I received doesn't have a powder skirt. When I got it, I wasn't concerned about the label not saying "tall", because the paper tag on the zipper said "tall". Plus the sleeves seemed longer than other jackets. I wasn't expecting a powder skirt because my older SV doesn't have one. Now I'm not sure. Any other way to tell?

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Tall Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Tall Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 6, 2011

An Arc tech shell in tall? Yahoo! Fits just like my old Alpha, except now my gorilla arms and belly button stay covered. Don't know where BC.com got these, but I'm pretty sure Arc doesn't make talls for the regular US retail market. Plus it's fabrique au Canada. What's not to like? (except that I'm out another 6 bills). If you're a bean pole like me, get yours while you can. You might not see these again.

I want to use this bladder in my winter pack. I can't find tube insulation from Osprey (to keep from freezing). Any other brand that might fit?

This model NOT I.D. but still a great boot

Dalbello Sports Krypton IL Moro I.D. Ski Boot - Men's

Dalbello Sports Krypton IL Moro I.D. Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 31, 2011

This model is actually NOT the I.D. version. This one comes with the stock Dalbello liner, as shown in the photo. Still a fine boot, but only 4 stars without the Intuition liner. I have last year's which was the real I.D. model and did come with the Intuition liner. Some people prefer the Pro to the Il Moro boots because of the upper buckle, but I really like it. Good idea to have a couple spare ladders (the belt-like plastic tongue that inserts into the ratchet buckle) because they can break--I broke one after about forty days.

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

December 30, 2010

Reading the forums, it seems that the favored mount spot is between -2.0 to -4.0 cm behind true center.

Perfect in tall

Arc'teryx Stinger Bib - Men's

Arc'teryx Stinger Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 20, 2010

I can get a jacket that fits without tall sizing from Arc or Norrona, but not pants. I'm 6'4", 195#, 34-35" waist. Large tall perfect. These bibs are without question the best ski pant I've ever owned.

Good stuff, sizing varies

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket - Men's

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 7, 2010

I have tried a few Norrona technical shells (thanks to BC for outstanding return policy). Great quality stuff, but sizing is tricky. The chart for Norrona is generic and I think refers to body size. Actual garment dimensions vary quite a bit, presumably based on design/usage considerations. I am 6' 4", 195#. I compared the actual garments to see how they differed.

Lofoten is probably the best fit for me for skiing, with longer arms and body, and athletic fit; I liked how the XL fit, if they had any good colors left; L is a little too trim for insulation.

Falketind is the trimmest model I tried, very slim, and shorter in body. Falketind XL is quite a bit smaller than the Lofoten XL in body width and length, and also shorter sleeve length.

My favorite in terms of quality build is the Trollveggen (pro shell version). Best fabric, great zippers, designed for mountaineering. It's a technical fit, but Trollveggen L is wider than Lofoten L, almost exactly the same as Lofoten XL. The Trollveggen L is a good fit for me in the body, but I wouldn't mind the sleeves a touch longer. The front on the Trollveggen is short, designed for harness access, which may not be ideal for skiing. There is a long drop back hem.

I didn't compare to the soft shells or insulated models. I do own the Svalbard soft shell in XL, which is one of my all time favorite jackets for less intense ventures.

What would be great would be a Norrona garment measurement chart by model and size. I had one once from Arcteryx years ago, and it was interesting how different the specs were between models.

Norrøna Trollveggen Jacket - Men's

November 11, 2010

Technical fit. Enough room for insulation, but no extra girth to flap around. Sleeves nice and long, best cuffs ever. Front length is short-ish by design for harness, works best with bib (I use with Arcteryx bib which comes in tall). Long drop hem in back. I'm 6'4", 190#. L fits me perfect, better fit than may old Arcteryx alpha SV. Zippers are bomber.

Where to mount 192s

What's the best place to mount 192s for powder/freeride (not much switch)? Center line seems pretty forward.

Rossignol FKS 180 Ski Binding

November 2, 2010

How wide could you reasonably get on the 115 brakes by just bending the angle out (as opposed to the big project of taking the binding apart to reshape the brakes in a vice)? Obviously there's a limit, because angling them out will make them stick out when you're skiing. I'm shooting for 123.

Mancini S7 alpine mount

Rossignol SYSTEM S7 Pro Mancini Ski

Rossignol SYSTEM S7 Pro Mancini Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 22, 2010

Got this last February, was my only ski in Utah through April. Not everybody is sold on the S7. Skis rather short, but for what it is, it's a blast. I mounted at recommended line (86cm from tail). Mancini art much nicer than the other S7s, same ski.

Dalbello Sports Virus Lite Touring Boot - Men's

I hear that the upper buckle cable was designed too long, and that shorter cables are available from Dalbello. Do you have these? Are they free?

Will BC.com be getting more of these? They seem to be scarce. REI had them listed on backorder earlier Aug 2010, but now they say its unavailable. Is there a problem in production? Discontinued?

Nice boot

Dalbello Sports Krypton IL Moro I.D. Ski Boot - Men's

Dalbello Sports Krypton IL Moro I.D. Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2010

Best fit I've ever had. Between the intition liner and the 3-piece design, comfort and performance finally come together. Still good to size down. I am 10.5-11 street shoe, skinny foot, 27.5 is perfect. Easy to customize, plenty stiff with optional tongue that came in box. This is my first Dalbello, won't be my last.

Athletic fit

Norrøna Narvik Gore-Tex Comfort Shell Jacket - Men's

Norrøna Narvik Gore-Tex Comfort Shell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 20, 2009

I didn't think the fit was small. Fit is similar to Arc'teryx Alpha, except Narvik sleeves slightly longer and Alpha chest slightly wider, otherwise sizes comparable. Length is shortish on both, if you're tall, but that can be good depending on use and preference. If you like trim athletic fit, you may not want to size up. I ordered L and XL to compare, I like L. I'm 6'3" 190lbs.
