What is the centerback measurement for this jacket? Based on the picture, it seems that it comes down just above the hip.

On my second one now

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 20, 2008

This is one of the few products that I have liked enough to buy twice. I lost the first one during a crazy night out. After losing my first one, I tried at other down jackets (Patagonia, REI), but ended up returning those and buying another Nuptse. I use it as my COLD weather jacket. For this casual purpose, this jacket is good: it's very warm, durable, and fits well. But I do not use it as a technical jacket. I have worn it snowboarding once, but it does not make sense for that purpose because it can get wet and lose its insulating properties. And it is too bulky to fit under my shell. Reasons why I gave it four, not five, stars: neck does not have a soft liner, like other down jackets, and the zipper sometimes snags, which is could be a major problem if it ripped the nylon and let the down out. The hood is somewhat pointless, as if it were raining, you would not have this on as an outer layer because the down would get wet, and thus lose its insulating capabilities.

cozy classic

Patagonia Synchilla Marsupial Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 10, 2008

warm, soft, and comfortable casual fleece that just works. pocket is huge and well designed so objects don't easily fall out, long zipneck for easy on and off, and right amount of elastic on sleeves and waist.

just okay

SmartWool Midweight Crew - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 10, 2008

It's warm, wicks decently, and is fairly comfortable. Drawbacks: it pills almost immediately, draws tons of lint, and is a bit itchy against the skin.

go-to hoody

Patagonia Slopestyle Hoody - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 6, 2008

althought it's not quite as comfortable or easy to wear as your standard issue cotton hoody, this thing is very comfortable. And it is much more versatile: the hard surface is good at keeping water and wind out, and the fleece interior keeps you cozy warm. I've worn it skiing in mild conditions, around town, and like to travel with it because it is versatile.

Nice, but not a good value

Arc'teryx Delta SV Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 29, 2008

This is a very nice fleece. Fits well, lightweight, packable, and warm. However, for the price, they should've had some windproofing. I ended up returning this and getting a Patagonia R3 fleece, which has the same qualities, but blocks some wind.

Not a good value

Burton Bomber Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 29, 2008

This hoody is not worth the price. It is just like any other hoody, except it is much thicker and more expensive. This hoody is not windproof, water-repellent, or any warmer for the weight, despite costing more than double your average hoody. To boot, this thing is way too long based on the measurements. It comes down way past the hips.

DO NOT BUY!!!

Burton AK 2L Cyclic Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 January 29, 2008

This is an overpriced, poorly made, poorly designed piece of outerwear. This jacket is way too long and is not designed for any serious backcountry or active snowsports ventures; at most, it is for trying to get points for "steeze" at the local resort. The pit zips are so poorly made that when you are wearing the jacket with them closed, the zippers stick into your armpits, making the jacket very uncomfortable. The jacket is not very packable and seems heavier than most Goretex Pro Shell jackets. The only saving grace is that I bought it from this retailer, who I can depend on for fast shipment and fast returns processing.

Excellent fleece!

Patagonia R3 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 29, 2008

Light, highly compressible, very warm, breathable, and excellent fit! The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because it lacks a hem drawcord and the wrist opening is not adjustable.

THE ski/snowboard jacket for most people

Patagonia Light Smoke Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2008

This jacket is windproof and water-repellent enough for 95% of situations, and has all the essential features without adding weight or bulk. Unlike most true softshells, however, this jacket is not lined and does not insulate. It is cut roomy enough to allow for layering underneath, like you would with a traditional hard shell. Unlike a hardshell though, this jacket is very breathable and stretchy, meaning you can wear it in thick of winter with a fleece underneath or alone over a baselayer in the spring.

Not worth it!

Burton Bonded Hoody - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 29, 2008

This is basically your standard issue hoody, except it is much thicker. You would expect that by paying more, you would get a hoody made of an advanced fabric like Polartec, but this is not the case. Also, the hoody is very long, so it comes down too much past the hips.

Super Fun Ride

Burton Custom Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 January 15, 2007

This is a super fun board to ride. It is quick edge to edge for freeriding performance. It has a lively flex - soft enough to press and forgiving on off-axis landings, but with enough pop to have a good time. Nice graphics are a plus too.

Versatile

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Hoody Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 25, 2006

This is truly a versatile jacket. I wore it comfortably while snowboarding in milder weather, close to 50F. It breathes beautifully. With a couple of baselayers (Under Armor cold gear and TNF Cirque Delta), and a 200 weight fleece vest, I wore it while snowboarding in 8F with wind chills at -25f. It is surprisingly warm for its weight. Additionally, I remained dry in a heavy, driving downpour. The DWR held up quite well, but I could tell the fabric was beginning to absorb some water. Two gripes: First, the sleeve cuffs should be adjustable. Second, the hood should have one more vertical adjustment to make it fit better when not wearing a helmet.

Not a good value

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 20, 2005

The jacket looks great, the fabric feels very nice, and it is well made. The selling point on this jacket is that it's waterproofing. However, that really doesn't add much to the jacket. First, if it's raining enough where you need a waterproof jacket, you also need a hood. Second, this jacket is cut really short, I think about 26in from center back. Also, the neck gaiter needs to be elastic so you don't feel choked when you cinch it shut.

Excellent Value

The North Face Freedom Insulated Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 10, 2005

Tested these pants out yesterday. Great insulation without bulkiness or extra weight. Fit is nice too. Comfy and baggy unlike a lot of other ski/snowboard pants out there these days. Only grip is that the zippers on the vents, in my opinion, should open from top-down, not bottom-up. That is, the vents are closed when the zipper pull is down by your knees.

Cirque Delta

The North Face Cirque Top Delta 1/4 Zip - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 29, 2005

Nice shirt for aerobic activities in cooler weather. Inside of the shirt isn't soft enough and feels a bit rough on the skin. Decent thermal qualities, but not as warm as The North Face's 100-weight microfleece.
