Arc'teryx Atom MX Insulated Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Atom MX Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2011

Very light, totally unrestrictive, much more breathable than a soft shell. Used this over a mid weight base layer (synthetic Mammut) for Alpine snow and ice climbing in -15ºC to -20º C, working hard and moving fast. Apart from some zipping and unzippng I never had to change layers the whole day ! hardly needed a belay jacket (no wind that day) was dry as a bone at the end of the day.
Don't know how durable it will be in the long run ?, feels very fragile but it did stand up to some bushwacking without damage. Made in Thailand !

Mountain Hardwear Typhon Glove

Mountain Hardwear Typhon Glove

Rating for this product: 5 August 25, 2010

Intuitive design/technology, very nice (use alone) liner. Bought a pair for my wife and she tested them learning to Telemark in slushy conditions, alternating rain/sleet, 0 degrees C while falling over a lot. Her hands were as dry as a bone at the end of the day, mine were soaked (patagonia stretch element gloves). Insulation is a little light for really cold conditions but they make other versions with the same technology.

Are they worth the $ ?

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Glove

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Glove

Rating for this product: 2 August 25, 2010

I'll start by saying that I am a big fan of most Arcteryx gear, I have hardshell jackets, pants and many other items that have performed amazingly well for years and were worth every cent.I have a fairly normally proportioned hand (L) and these seemed too short and fat in the finger dept. The materials seem good quality and with the thickness of the liner I bet they would be very warm, dexterity is good for a glove of this thickness. On the negative side, the liner does not look like it would stand up to even very light use alone, I imagine you could shred it even holding ski/trekking poles and I don't know if the liners can be bought separate ? even if you can, with the goretex cuff they are going to cost. The gloves are made in China too which is disappointing for a $275 pair of gloves and raises quality questions in my mind. Thanks Backcountry for providing no hassle returns, I went with the MH Medusa glove instead for my winter ski/snowboard/alpine adventures it's half the price, better liner that you can use alone, similar waterproof technology.

Mountain Hardwear Microchill Fleece Zip T- Boys'

Mountain Hardwear Microchill Fleece Zip T- Boys'

Rating for this product: 5 January 11, 2010

very soft, warm and comfortable, dries super fast, my 5 year old son loves wearing them to school or walking/skiing as insulation layer. Make them in more colors and we'll keep buying them. Price seems more reasonable than comparable quality brands (Patagonia)

Mountain Hardwear Equilibrium Sweater - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Equilibrium Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 28, 2008

This appears to be great quality, smart blend of materials makes it warm, light and comfortable, made in the USA !. If you are athletic build and have long arms this will actually fit (rare). Discreet logo on the sleeve is a nice touch (we don't all want to be walking billboards). Lapis color is much better than expected. If they make more colors I'll buy some more of these.

Is Arc'teryx quality slipping ?

Arc'teryx Stinger Glove - Unisex

Arc'teryx Stinger Glove - Unisex

Rating for this product: 2 January 16, 2008

does anyone else get the feeling that Arc'teryx gear is not as good as it used to be ?
These gloves seemed sized too small, had uncomfortable seams and just did not look like they would last long, so I sent them for return. Pity as I have a ton of their other gear (hard and soft shells, harness) bought years ago that is bombproof.
Made in Canada vs made in China ?
