  • Stomping Grounds:

    Utah/Wyoming
  • Bio:

Born in the icy climes of northern New England, Porter 'Cougar' Haney is no stranger to the mountains.

Once, in Canada, he caught a wild salmon with a magnifying glass, cunning, and determination, then trained it to hunt down and retrieve smaller fish for his sustenance.

He has been sighted swimming off Cape Horn, and regularly bathes in frigid Patagonian waters for his health.

He has logged more than 366.333 (repeating of course) consecutive days with at least one face shot, and has perfected the art of skiing rock faces devoid of snow.

As a Freelance Mexican Food Architect, he has been awarded the first Michelin star in the discipline. He has the kind of culinary intuition that cannot be learned or taught.

His nacho towers reach the height of two-story buildings, and his Huevos Rancheros set off both fire and flavor alarms.

His mustaches make women weak in the knees. His beards drive them insane.

As a youngster, he drove a 1950 Chevy from Whistler to Wyoming, then from Stowe to Snowbird, just to see where the best schussing was. As an adult, the schussing has learned to follow him instead.

His Carhartt double-fronts haven't been washed since he bought them 8 years ago. They smell of determination and jasmine.

His resolve is the stuff of legends.

Stoic Bombshell Bib - Men's

These bibs are holding up to even the tightest LCC tree shots. Pretty burly.

Got an XL when I normally wear a L.

Turny, but stiff

Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski

Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 March 25, 2009

Great skis, with vertical side walls, wood core, and finally longer than snowblades. Have lots of side cut so be ready to make some turns.

Putting the duke in duker

Marker Duke Ski Binding

Marker Duke Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 March 25, 2009

A great binding that can take the abuse of everyday resort skiing. Toe pressure can wobble back and forth a bit, but much more secure than other AT binding alternatives.

Marker Duke Ski Binding

October 24, 2008

Going even a full boot size up only brings your sole length up to about a 315mm, still within the Smalls range. I suggest sticking with the size Small.Smalls weight less too!

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding

September 24, 2008

You should be able to bend it out a little if it doesn't fit quite right. No worries.

Moment Comi-Kazi Alpine Ski

Moment Comi-Kazi Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 16, 2008

I believe the above review and product description are looking at two different things. The tip is 160 mm wide, while the ski as 54cm of tip rocker.

Marker Baron Ski Bindings

September 10, 2008

This binding definitely stiffens the ski. It also enables the gripping of hard pack. I think these binders are a little burlier than the fritschi (they also weight more).

Awesome pack. Just the right size to hold every thing. Performs well in a myriad of conditions. Perfectly designed, this in my opinion, is the best pack out there.

Righteous Tent

Marmot NYX Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Marmot NYX Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 June 29, 2006

I have had a chance to use two different Marmot Tents. The Swallow and the NYX. Both have stood up to the test of time and weather. Pretty bomber if you ask me. Both have been used it ~10F weather, in ice storms, and with mega winds. Talking 70mph artic gales. They withstood well in all conditions, even when other tents in the group did not!
