  • Stomping Grounds:

The Wasatch and the Grand Canyon
  • Bio:

I love to play. I grew up mainly in Salt Lake and have had access to some of the best places in the world. Right now I get to river guide in Grand Canyon during the summer and work in the hospital and at Snowbird in the winter so it's workin out pretty great. And, let's be honest, I've got a bit of a gear problem, so SAC and backcountry are perfect / trouble for me.

Smith Method Sunglasses - Polarized

November 13, 2010

It's true, I'm an addict of sunglasses for sure. I am obsessed with wearing them whenever it is even somewhat sunny. My first pair of Methods were given to me 5 years ago and due to me loosing them and not taking care of them and getting them too scratched, I've needed to get new glasses, but I keep coming back to these. They're big enough that they block a lot of sun, but they're not too Hollywood. Also, I really don't like it when glasses sit on my cheeks and these don't at all. The super methods do and get foggy really easily, but these are great.

Black Diamond Camalot C4's

The yellow #2 is such the perfect hand size for me and BD camalots are my favorite of any cams! It's always good to have a couple of these in your rack for a desert trip.

Marmot Power Stretch Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

November 13, 2010

This fleece has come on almost every trip with me since I bought it. It's so soft and comfy and I love the hood and zippered pockets. I did burn a hole all the way through the pocket just by getting too close to my stove. Someone forgot that fleece is really melty. I still wear it and just don't use that pocket because it's great. Not really wind-proof but it's not supposed to be so I guess it's OK.

Petzl Tikka Plus 2 Headlamp

November 13, 2010

I love this headlamp. The settings are really versatile so you don't have to have it super bright while you're reading, but you can also have it bright enough to show you the way when you're hiking or whatever adventures might come about in the night!

These go everywhere!

These go everywhere!

Carve Designs Beachcomber Short - Women's

November 13, 2010

In the picture these look like they've got a pretty visible, shiny floral print on them but in real like you can barely see it, but I like it. They are really soft. I love the fabric. I work as a river guide and they have a couple snags on them but I'm pretty hard on my stuff, so I think under normal wear and tear they'd be fine. They do get a little loose when they're wet but I like them a little looser, so I still think go with whatever size you'd buy normally. They're great for hiking and everything even when they're wet unlike others that you have to deal with chaffage. Overall, they're great.

Stylie puffy!

Stylie puffy!

Salomon Manero Down Jacket - Women's

November 13, 2010

It's hard to find puffy coats that look stylish and don't make you look huge and this coat is great at both of those. I liked the ones with color but they didn't have my size but black is always good. I wasn't sure about the shiny but turns out I really like it, so don't let that turn you away. It's really warm and I am counting down until it gets cold enough to wear it!

Pretty durable

Pretty durable

Arc'teryx Palisade Capri - Women's

November 13, 2010

These capris are pretty comfortable and good for hiking. They're not as stretchy as some others I've tried which I do really like for climbing, but they're usual Arc'teryx quality so they're good durable fabric and construction. The pockets are kinda weird though. There's one on the front that is not very big and it's right at where your hip bends so it's not too comfy to have anything in it. But other than that, they're good pants.

Really great light weight

SmartWool NTS Microweight Zip-Top - Women's

November 13, 2010

It may look like I'm really cold in this picture, but it's just because it was an unusually cold evening in the Grand Canyon in June and none of us were prepared. This shirt was the warmest thing I had and it was good. It's thinner than I thought it was going to be but it fits really well and is perfect when you just need a little more than a T-shirt, or just a layer under a fleece or something. It's great too because it doesn't retain smell like regular capilene shirts tend to do.

Perfect for a smaller fit

Smith Anthem Goggle - Women's

November 13, 2010

I've had these goggles for a couple years and they are still great. Even wearing them over my helmet the strap hasn't stretched out. I don't like super huge goggles and these are perfect. I don't really have a small face, and these are some of the smaller ones that Smith makes, but I think these fit me pretty well and don't cut off too much periphery.

More than just a rain jacket!

Marmot Minimalist Jacket - Women's

November 13, 2010

I bought this as a rain jacket and it was a little thicker than I was expecting. I was thinking it was just going to be a shell, but it's got a liner in it that is really nice. It really helps keep the wet and cold off your skin. It added a little warmth that I wasn't expecting. It seemed really true to size for me. I'm generally a med and the med fit great.

Good but not great for super wet

Good but not great for super wet

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's

November 13, 2010

This jacket is pretty good. It does great in some lighter rain storms, but isn't great for prolonged times in the weather. I've had it for a while and used it quite a bit and most of the time it's good, but a little moisture seeps through if you're out in the weather for too long. But for a light weight, pretty cheap jacket, it gets the job done.

Patagonia Capilene 2 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

November 13, 2010

This shirt has been great. It's great as a layer or by itself. I really like it because it's long enough to stay down and not always ride up. It's just the right amount of stretch. I've worn it and washed it tons of times and it's still great.

prAna Bliss Capri Pant - Women's

November 13, 2010

These pants are great! I use them mostly for climbing, but they're great for hiking, boating when it's a little cold, because they dry super fast and pretty much anything else. They're stretchy and really comfy. If you get them and they seem just a little tight, they're perfect. They do stretch out a little so they won't be too snug. I have 2 pair of pants and 2 pair of shorts I like them so much!

Patagonia Footwear Tsali Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2011

I usually wear a 7 - 7 1/2 and I had to get a 6.5, so they run a little big, but they're really comfortable. In a day or so they were worn in and fit great. I've done some hiking in them and they're comfortable and seem really durable.

Great all around shoe!

Patagonia Footwear Bly Hiking Shoe - Women's

Patagonia Footwear Bly Hiking Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2011

These shoes are great approach shoes! I tried on a bunch of different ones and these were the most comfortable. They are comfy enough that you can wear them around, but stiff and aggressive enough that you can wear the on some technical approaches. I usually wear a 7 - 7 1/2 and I got the 7s. My toes are right up against the end but if I tie the laces tight it's just right and I like them to be more snug than loose. Over all they're great shoes! I've gone on several adventures in them and they're standing up to use just fine.

The North Face Animagi Insulated Jacket - Women's

The North Face Animagi Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 10, 2011

Pretty sure I've worn this jacket everyday for the last 2 weeks since I got it. I love the way it fits and looks. I have the black one and it's pretty shiny and I kinda feel like cat woman, but as far as I can tell, there's nothing wrong with that. The only thing is the sleeves are pretty long. They do have the thumb catch and a hand covers but for everyday use when you don't need to be covering your hands, they're a little long. Other than that's is a great thin insulation layer for pretty much any activity.

Patagonia Island Hemp Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 February 14, 2011

I agree with the other reviews. I'm usually a size 10 and it fits OK, but it's not stretchy at all and it's cut on the bias so it hangs a little weird. I do like the yellow color a lot. It would look really good in the summer when I'm tan, but the fit just didn't seem comfortable to relax in.

Good, but definatley not a dry bag!

Stoic Welded Haul Duffel

Stoic Welded Haul Duffel

Rating for this product: 4 February 14, 2011

This bag is really big and nice and the whole inside is really easily accessible, and I'm pretty sure it's really durable, but it is definitely not waterproof, like river worthy waterproof. It'd be good in the rain or a little bit of water, but the zipper is not waterproof and this bag could for sure not be submerged. But for hauling gear and keeping it pretty dry in most conditions, it's going to be great!

Softest boots ever!

EMU Angels Lo Boot - Women's

EMU Angels Lo Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2011

I've got to be honest. I've never thought these type of boots are very flattering or attractive. but these were given to me as a gift and they are amazing! They're seriously the most comfortable boots for everything. I've worn them a ton since I got them. The only thing I didn't like about them is once I've worn them a lot the sides above the buckle kinda turn out, but I think it's supposed to be that way.

I'd heard that if you were in between sizes you should size up. I'm a 7 1/2 and I got an 8 and I feel like they fit well at first, but they do pack out a little and I think a 7 would have been a little tight at first but I think in the end they may fit better. But they're so comfy I just can't complain about them at all.

The North Face Aqua Bow Falls Board Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2010

I work as a river guide and I wear these shorts at least once or twice a trip. I'm super hard on my clothes and besides getting a little dirty which is totally my own fault they have held up great! I love the length and the fit. They don't ride up and are not uncomfortable to hike in even when they're wet.

Suunto t1c Heart Rate Monitor

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2010

This is a great watch and heart rate monitor. Most of those watches can be so huge, but this one really isn't bad. The bands are really great too. I've had it in Orange Brick and Espresso (I lost one and liked it so much I got another!) and they're both great colors. The Orange brick was a little heavier and a little more bulky but I liked the look of it a lot.

SmartWool Midweight Boot Top Bottom - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 January 15, 2010

I've been wanting to get some smartwool pants for a while and these are really cozy. I'd heard so much about smart wool and they are a lot softer than I thought wool could be. And I like the 3/4 length. But the one thing I don't like is that everything gets stuck to them. They're perfect for skiing or under things, but hair and lint get stuck to them pretty bad, but not enough to make me not like them.

DAKINE Ridge Backpack - 1900 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2006

I bought this pack for backcountry skiing, but have ended up using it for school, canyoneering, hiking and whatever else. It's great because it has the hydration pack, and I love the little pocket on the waist band. It makes taking pictures of your adventures quick and easy. The access from the front isn't great, but once I got used to just using the rear entry, I don't want to use anything else. Overall it's a great pack.

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2006

I am a river guide and was looking for a good watch that could handle the river, and when I saw this I thought, if it can handle surfing, it can handle the river. However, after about 2 months the light stopped working then a couple weeks later it just stopped working all together. I sent it in for a warranty and they sent me a new one of this year's model so it was good to get an upgrade, but I wasn't stoked that for the amount of money I spent it didn't last a little longer.

This is a great back-up headlamp. It's super light and fits anywhere. The LEDs aren't great for running at night, because I thought they made my depth perception a little weird, but over-all I loved it. The North Face Allure Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 21, 2006

This is a great down jacket for most anything. It has tons of ski features that I love. I think North Face stuff runs a little big, especially with a down jacket. I bought a size smaller than normal and it fits great. The only thing I don't like about the jacket is it's not quite as cozy as some other down jackets I've had. It's made for the elements a little more, so it's a little more durable, but it's still comfy enough for around the fire.

I really like the fit of this shirt, and I think it's a great under a jacket or by itself. I love the sleeves with the thumb holes -it makes putting on gloves or another layer super easy. The zipper goes a little high, though - it goes all the way up to the bridge of my nose. But I guess that's the effect they're going for, and I felt like a ninja, so that's cool. I don't zip it very often anyway, and I wear it all the time and love it.
