Thule Load Bar Pair

Thule Load Bar Pair

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2006

The designers at Thule are fantastic. I have these attached with the Crossroad Railing Foot Pack. This keeps my load bars close to my roof keeping my MPG at a maximum. They are impossible to steal which is also comforting. If you want a great rack for your road bike, try the V2.

Thule V2 Bike Mount

Thule V2 Bike Mount

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2006

Minimal wind resistance can not be underestimated. I drive long distances with and without the bike and my gas mileage stays down. The only problem I have had is that the little piece of plastic fell off the back and I lost the ratchet to hold the back tire down. I called a gearhead and the hook me up with Thule directly to get the replacement pieces I needed.

Carhartt Thermal-Lined Full-Zip Hoodie- Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2006

There is something rewarding about being comfortable while I work. It is especially rare when the weather is piss poor and I would much rather be at home. I feel comfortable enough in this warm and durable hoody to help keep me going until at least lunch time. The only other jacket I need is the Active Jacket.

I am so impressed by this Carhartt jacket. With winter taking hold I have just a little yard work left to take care of and I wouldnt want to work in my ski jacket. The active jacket is a great piece for getting dirty and gettin er done. My garage is cold but houses all my tools, and without my carhartts I would be stuck inside with my wife like a scared turtle.

Ultimate Utility

G3 Bonesaw

G3 Bonesaw

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2006

Personally I am a fan. This is a great tool for snow science. One of my favorite features is that it has a measuring grid on the side. As we all know, snow is constantly morphing due to temperature changes. I used to use the plastic case that my magnifying glass sits in or a plastic card to look at snow crystals, but the variable speed that they degrade was sometimes frustrating. The beauty of the aluminum is that if you keep it out of the sun it will be nearly the same temperature as the snow which is good for a quick analysis of crystal types.

Other than that I think it is perfect for cutting a profile, building a table, or cutting a small cornice. The handle is great and doesn’t slip out of my glove.

Thank you for another innovative design!

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2006

I have used several beacons and this is the easiest to use. Although i personally use a different piece this is the one I bought for my brother. I feel safe in his novice hands with this beacon, even though I let him lead the way on most descents. We have been practicing a lot lately and his skills are improving much more rapidly than mine did, and I am positive that this tool is an integral part of his rapid discovery. I hope to have many more days with him.

What can I say, I like moving snow. There is no other reason to have a shovel. I get nervous when someone busts out their gardening tools and thinks that they could dig me out if there is a problem. I call bs. I need something durable with leverage and good grip. I wear mittens on cold days and have no trouble with the assembly and usage of this shovel. I used to have the wood saw inside the handle but got rid of it when i bought the g3 bonesaw.

This is a great pack for small trips outside of the resort. I ride at Brighton near Salt Lake City, and most of my days are spent out on Pioneer Ridge from the top of the Crest Express lift. This pack fits my skins, shovel, probe, saw, water, and a snack. I can strap my collapsible poles to the side when I no longer need them. Or my splitboard quickly to the back panel for a quick boot pack.

Pieps DSP Advanced Avalanche Beacon

Pieps DSP Advanced Avalanche Beacon

Rating for this product: 4 December 8, 2006

Barometer? yes. Compass? yes. Thermometer? yes. I love it, plus you get software upgrades. From what I understand there was a problem with the 1st generation of these where in the case of multiple victim burials there were "ghost" signals. If you have an old one you can send it in and get that fixed. I would have sent mine in but I had to trash it because the screen was smashed and Pieps said there was nothing they could do to fix it. They did offer a generous deal on a new one. I wouldn’t use this for snowmobiling because of the likelihood of smashing your core area on the handlebars, but other than that, this is as very useful piece of equipment.

The only funny thing is that the articulated knees were a little low, but who cares. Great travel pants, no iron needed and they are great in variable weather.

Eagle Creek Undercover Neck Pouch

Eagle Creek Undercover Neck Pouch

Rating for this product: 4 December 7, 2006

But it came in quite handy. It doesn’t really fit my passport snuggly, but worked fine as a sort of stow all pouch. I kept my passport, wallet, and American money in here, while I stashed photocopies of all my info in my pocket. It's good to know that all your info is consolidated and convenient for those moments you wake up in a hostel wondering if you just got ripped off. No digging around trying to find shit in your bag.

Jetboil Coffee Press

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2006

This Coffee Press is God's gift to humankind, but please remember not to add your coffee grounds until you have turned the heat off. To make proper French press coffee you pour boiling water over your grounds and steep for four minutes. My tried-and tested-method is to get a second Companion Cup (Item # JET0003). I put the grounds in the extra, boil water in the other one, and pour the boiling water in the spare that is not attached to the stove. It works great!!!

And everyone has Halloween stuff up, so I would ride by a dummy hanging from a tree, giant pumpkins... . Frost formed on my sweatshirt, and I was cold enough that I rode faster and actually got to school early. But guess what wasn't cold. At all. That's right my skinny fingers that are always cold! Thanks!

Black Diamond Skylight Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Black Diamond Skylight Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 August 10, 2006

All features blended this is a very versatile piece of gear. Yes it is a three person tent, but only if all three of you are packing in a true ultra light manner. Climbers and most campers will use this as a two person tent. I forgot to seam seal the tent before I went out and we spent the first 10 hours inside the tent being pummeled by the big black clouds we saw rolling in when we were setting up our camp. Fortunately the materials were up to their claim and we had relatively little condensation (most likely it was our own fault for not venting properly) and the only leaks came from the seams on the guy line flaps(which were hanging loose). It took me a few rounds to figure out how to set up the tent, but once I read the instructions I cut my time in half. the process is somewhat time consuming but you are inside the tent the whole time, so if the elements are an issue you have coverage. Vestibule was a spacious and creative design with good vent options. The drafting in the tent works excellent (even in the rain). Thank you Black Diamond for a terrific lightweight tent that is tough.

Eagle Creek Transcontinental Journey Travel Pack

Eagle Creek Transcontinental Journey Travel Pack

Rating for this product: 4 January 19, 2006

The new security wire is also airport friendly. With all measures of observing the contents of your bags, security guards still find it necessary to search your bags when you may not be there and many airports have regulations against locks, and will simply snip them away, leaving unprotected against thieves in the streets where ever you end up. Eagle Creek has bridged this gap in travel security and has given this a lock and key device which can be operated by a universal key held by airport officials. Could be sketchy if thieves had that key. Eh, at least its a start.

Black Diamond Ion Headlamp

Black Diamond Ion Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 August 2, 2005

This is the perfect lightweight, close-range head lamp. I’m never afraid to toss it in my pack on an afternoon hike that might go late and it has come in handy on more than few occasions like that. This little piece lives in my car when it not in my pack and helps me get around the dark areas of my engine or trunk. For close range, the light is incredible i.e. finding lost bolts, hooking up wires, following tent stakes into the bushes at 3 in the morning when you know you should have found a place to camp hours ago, or just reading a book. I prefer it to the tika/zipka because of wider range, similar weight with a more useable build. Also, the Ion has proven to be quite durable. Thanks BD.
