I STARTED CLIMBING 25 YEARS AGO SOMEWHERE IN CO.. ROCK CLIMB AT DEVILS LAKE STATE PARK IN WISCONSIN, ABOUT 3 HOURS FROM MY HOME NEAR CHICAGO, STARVED ROCK STATE PARK FOR ICE... CLIMB IN THE TETONS WHEN EVER I CAN... MT. RAINIER IN THE WINTER OF '88 AND '89... ICE IN OUREY WITH M.COVINGTON (SORRY, GOTTA DROP MICHAELS NAME, REALLY COOL GUY), LITTLE BIT IN CA. AND SMOKIES... EUROPE: MATTERHORN, JUNGFRAU, MT.BLANC AND OTHERS...ANDOERA IN THE PYRENEES...WHAT GETS ME GOING NOW? COFFEE AND PLANING OUR TRIP (MY WIFE AND ME) TO NEPAL NEXT YEAR. I LOVE BEING IN THE MOUNTAINS. THEY SEEM TO PUT EVERYTHING IN PERSPECTIVE.

I LIKE THE POINTS TIGHT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY BOOT SO I WEAR ONE SIZE SMALLER THAN RECCOMENDED. WORKS WELL ON APPROACH FOOTWEAR TO SERIOUS BOOTS. JUST BE CAREFUL WHILE STRETCHING RED.........

I HAVE WORN THESE MANY TIMES WINTER(icey) HIKEING AT STARVED ROCK S.P.(ILLINOIS). THEY WORK REALLY WELL, HOWEVER TO KEEP THE POINTS TIGHT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY BOOT I BUY 1 SIZE SMALLER THAN RECCOMENDED. WHEN PUTTING THEM ON STRETCH RED SLOWLY AS NOT TO OVER STRETCH. I'M AMAZED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE HIKE S.R.S.P. WITHOUT SLIP PROTECTION, SUBJECTING THEMSELVES TO 80' FALLS AT ANY TIME.

WHEN TIEING INTO HARNESS I USE A BOWLINE KNOT WITH A YOSEMITE LOCK WITH A SLIGHT VARIATION. BEFORE PUTTING THE TAIL THRU THE FIRST LOOP I WRAP IT AROUND THE HARNESS LOOP THEN UP THRU THE FIRST LOOP FINISHING WITH A DOUBLE SQARE KNOT. THIS IS FAST AND SECURE. IS THERE ANOTHER KNOT AS SECURE?
