NRS Hydrosilk Rash Guard Top - Short-Sleeve - Men's
August 6, 2009
In my opinion, they are very true to size. Obviously they are going to be tight but the size I bought is the same size I wear in a t-shirt and it fits fine without any restriction. It resembles thicker Under Armour top but not quite as snug.

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Classic Handheld Water Purifier
May 28, 2009
Yeah, the SteriPen pre-filter probably wouldn't be any more effective than your pump water filter with particulates that small. Try using a coffee filter, a handkerchief, or letting the matter settle in the bottle first (then dumping it into another container) before using the SteriPen.

DAKINE Poacher Backpack - 2300cu in
May 25, 2009
To correct the other answer, there is a hyrdration sleeve but it isn't fleece padded. You can run the tube of the hyrdration bladder from the sleeve, which is located in the main compartment, straight to the shoulder strap so that the tubing doesn't freeze up.

well on the decal are directions on how to open and close the lid so I would say it's fairly functional.

Solio Classic Solar Charger w/Wall Adapters
May 17, 2009
hypothetically speaking, even if there was an adapter for the Macbook, the Solio does not have the power output to charge something that large. It's only useful for smaller devices (i.e. cellphones and .mp3 players) due to the small voltage output (4 to 12 volts).

Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack - 5100-5500cu in
May 17, 2009
It probably hinges on your waist, but I would probably go with a large if you are indeed looking at the Argon 85. You are going to get more volume in the large and it would probably fit your torso better. The large also gives your flexibility in allowing you to wear a few layers and have the hip belt still fit comfortably.

I'm a big fan of the Marmot PreCip jacket as well. It's lighter than this TNF Venture jacket and cheaper but just as functional.

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp
March 30, 2009
Yes, rechargeables do work. At least NiMH batteries do. I haven't really taken notice as to how well rechargeables work in comparison to alkalines or other non-rechargeables, but they work. There are simply too many variables (temperatures, usage, time between usage, etc.) for me to quantify how fast rechargeables are used up.

Solio Classic Solar Charger w/Wall Adapters
March 30, 2009
Yes, the solar charges can charge AA batteries. I have a Energizer DUO USB charger that I hook to my Solio and it charges both AA and AAA batteries (only one kind at a time though).

The North Face Classic Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's
March 28, 2009
it doesn't block wind like a windstopper jacket, but it does block some wind. It's a good insulating layer with 300 weight fleece, but it won't keep you toasty by itself on a cold, windy night.

Garmin 60 CSX GPS Unit
March 27, 2009
I don't know how well it will hold up in negative temperatures, but it should be fine as long as it isn't exposed to the elements (snow, sleet, etc.) for too long and you keep it close to your body when you aren't using it. As for a map of NY, check out the Garmin US Topo map for the Upper East Coast.

Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack - 5100-5500cu in
March 26, 2009
Yes, this pack would be overhead bin-friendly because all the horizontal straps would really compress it down. Perhaps to be a little extra certain, you could buy a few extra straps so you can compress the pack vertically as well and in effect, cocooning it.
I would definitely take the hip belt off but you could always, if need be, wear it by itself underneath your clothes and then take it off when you sit down.

Solio Classic Solar Charger w/Wall Adapters
March 26, 2009
the Solio does not charge batteries - it charges devices. Now if your Nikon D60 battery comes with a charger that has an adapter compatible with the Solio (i.e. Mini-USB), then it would probably charge your battery.

Solio Classic Solar Charger w/Wall Adapters
March 25, 2009
It costs more than batteries. You have to rely on the sun. It takes hours to recharge it. You have to make sure you have the adapter and if you don't, they are pricey to buy. However, all things considered - it's convenient if you have the adapters and makes life a lot easier in the backcountry if you need to charge a small device like a cell phone or a GPS unit.

Osprey Packs Argon 85 Backpack - 5100-5500cu in
March 18, 2009
Yes, the bear can will fit. I have a BV-500 and it fits in the main compartment without any problems. You could always, if necessary, strap the bear canister to the pack. The Argon 85 has plenty of straps and plenty of places to hook straps to - easy to become creative.

DAKINE Freestyle Snowboard Bag
March 9, 2009
I'd get a 157 if not a 165. The 165 will give you some wiggle room, especially if the bindings stay on, and you could always stuff some towels in there to make it more snug if need be.

Atlas 10 Series Snowshoe
March 9, 2009
Snowshoes bindings are designed to fit most types of shoes including hiking boots, hiking shoes, winter boots, mountaineering boots and even trail shoes. Depending on the conditions and terrain it really comes down to personal preference.Snowboarding boots tend to be too big for most snowshoe bindings. Plus you probably want something light.I think it really comes down to your shoe size. If you have large feet (size 15) like I do, you have to make sure you wear boots that are are not too wide and cumbersome or they won't fit. Personally, I use a pair of Solomon winter boots and they work great. If you have smaller or more normal sized feet, you could probably get away with almost any kind of boot except snowboarding boots.

Garmin 60 CSX GPS Unit
March 9, 2009
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Are you using it for hiking? Driving? Boating? If so, the 60 CSx works well but you just need to buy the additional maps. It works equally well in the car, on the trail, and on the water.

Thule Universal FlatTop 6 Rack
March 9, 2009
The only thing I noticed was that the Snowcat requires a factory roof rack with side rails whereas it seems like you can get away with not having a factory rack for the Flat Top by using it with an aftermarket rack (Thule, Yakima, etc.).

The North Face Borealis Backpack - 1830cu in
March 9, 2009
It you are looking for a pack that can do all that, I would suggest a smaller multi-day pack as opposed to a pack like the Borealis. The snowshow carrying feature is very limiting, especially if you want to put the snowshoes in the pack itself, but you could always put the snowshoes in a carrier bag and then strap that to the pack. Maybe check out something like the North Face Terra 40, the North Face Solaris 35, Gregory Z 35, or the Osprey Talon 44.
