Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

February 13, 2012

I've been using this as a solo (with my 2yr old German Shepherd) and I find it to be a very worthwhile setup. It can fit two, but it's pretty tight so it works out well for a solo guy and gear. Sure there are lighter two person tents, but you're looking at 2x the price as well.

I'm very fond of this piece of gear. It was one of my first purchases (for outdoor equipment) and even though I've gone through and "upgraded" most of my gear this piece is still a pleasure to pack.

The North Face Dhaulagiri II GTX Boot - Men's

The North Face Dhaulagiri II GTX Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2011

Picked these up as my first 'real' hiking boot. Up until this point I've either wore a military boot, or trail runner. After an outing which left my soles sore and bruised, I wanted something with a stiff sole to handle the trail/rocks. These things are surprisingly comfortable for every day wear if you do that sorta thing. I would have no issues wearing these all day just kicking around. I've logged a few miles in these over varied terrain and find they keep out water rather well. I don't have many streams to cross in Southern New Mexico but the recent snowfall here gave these boots no problems and had no issues keeping my feet warm with your standard wool socks. The sole works well, and doesn't clog up. Has great traction on every surface I've put it to.. But my biggest concern is with the sole chunking and lugs getting ripped off from the rugged rocky terrain here in the Southwest.

At this point I'm unsure if I'd buy another pair. I'd like something that offers all the good this boot offers, without shredding the soles.

Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket - Men's

December 28, 2011

I'm a stocky guy. I'm 5' 8" and about 220lbs. I have big chest and shoulders. My Chest is approx. 46"

My questions are the following:

- Would the Beta AR be long enough to allow me to wear a climbing harness (I am rather short)? If at all possible I'd like to keep things as compact as possible which is why I'm looking at the Beta vs. the Theta.

- I'm looking at getting a XL due to my large upper body mass, but I'd like to be able to layer for cold temps w/ possibly a Patagonia Ultralight Down Jacket. Would the XL afford me "breathing room" to layer?
