Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pant - Men's

Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 November 17, 2008

I really wanted to love these pants. Fabric felt good, but just didn't hold up for the price. On the first washing they shrank a ton and they began to get pulls in the canvas all over the seams. Eventually they failed, completely tearing out. Normally I wear 34 x 32 the waist on these pants sits above your belly button. If you wear them at your waist, the crotch is too low for the gusset to actually work and you hit resistance.

The fabric does feel good, if they can fix the crotch to waist length and stop the canvas from breaking down so quickly they might be worth a lower price, but not the current one, and certainly not when they fail so fast.

Buy Carhartt!

Solid little tool

Snow Peak GigaPower Stove Auto Ignition

Snow Peak GigaPower Stove Auto Ignition

Rating for this product: 4 June 14, 2005

This little stove is fantastic, I got it because it's small and light for white water kayak trips and backpacking, in really cold weather I'd still rely on my white gas stove, but for most other situations this is great and so much easier and faster. It works great, is durable, and is very simple. Some people have lost the plastic button on the piezo lighter or had trouble with it lighting. I have been fine. With a light breeze (under 5 kts) at sea level, it boiled a 2 liter pot of water with a lid in 15 mins. Simmer worked great for prepping quesedillas as well. It says not to use a windscreen for fear of throwing too much heat onto the fuel tank. I use an MSR foil screen carefully, and not tight to the stove so heat can escape. I'd like to see a workable wind screen or heat reflector. Foil would be fine. Good solid little stove.

Solid Tent

Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 June 14, 2005

I am very impressed with this tent. I wanted something durable, solid, that vented well but was still warm enough for the snow, and less than 7 lbs. I wanted it for climbing, kayaking, skiing, and backpacking in the Washington Cascades and Sierras. I found it. This tent is a tank and it only has 3 poles! Clip up design makes set up so easy and allows air circulation under the fly perfectly. The ability to adjust air movement and ventilation is incredible and you can make infinite adjustments to stay comfortable in any setting. With the main panel fully down stargazing is fantastic. With it zipped up tight, you're snug and warm even in the snow. The two doors and vestibules provide great access and tons of storage. I am 5'10 and for 2 people and gear the layout inside is absolutely perfect! The fly is tight and fit's down nice and snug to the ground. Requires 2 stakes on either side. My only real complaint is the color. I'd like to see brighter colors for getting stuck waiting out long storms. I've used lot's of tents from Marmot, SD, and North Face and for what I do, this is my favorite tent so far. For those of us who want one tent for the widest variety of environments. Nice work MH! Now let's see how long it will last….
