I'm a Florida boy, so coastal hikes and swamp treks are a must. But I love to head north and get my boulder on too. Trail running, and kayak fishing are huge for me. Moving out to Two Rock Cali soon, can't wait for high sierra shenanigans.

yeah, it'll work great, the gulf is not so rough so 14 feet is as long as you need, and the stern cargo fits a bait cooler nicely. Heritage boats are also easy to mount rod holders onto.

I have never worn the fugitives, but I own the alp trainers and I can say I'd rather have the alp trainers based solely on the fact that they have vibram soles. The treads wear so slowly and the rubber is so durable. Also, the Salewas are mush more warm than I expected, especially with winter socks. As a bonus, I went on a 10 mile hike the second I got them out of the box and no blisters or raw spots on the foot. Go with the Salewas, especially if you aren't planning on carrying 50 pounds of gear everywhere you go.

Love the Fathom's

I have had my Fathoms for four years now and they are the excellent. They have help up in the freezing cold, and the blazing hot, they never fog up, and they are so comfortable you wont realize that you're wearing them. The glare reduction is amazing, you can see straight into the water, even on a cloudy day. Plus Costa's warranty is second to none!!

Greatest Trail Shoe EVER!!!

New Balance MT10 Minimus Trail Running Shoe - Men's

I could some up my feelings about the Minimus in one word, wow. These are unbelievably comfortable, once you break your feet in of course. They handle sand, rock, grass, and even pavement with great ease and comfort. Plus they dry super quick. The sole (a wonderful design by Vibram) is actually split into four parts which allows for flexibility I've never had in any other shoe. They have all the benefits of a true zero drop barefoot shoe, without the weird (I hate it) sensation of "five fingers." And the absolute tackiness of them (100 miles and still stick like new) make these great for climbing as well as running or hiking, so in the summer they make a great approach/climb combo. I also find myself wearing them everywhere (the odor eliminating interior microfiber actually works), I got the all orange and they are head turners for sure. I didn't care for the tight strap over the bridge of the foot, but the feeling has grown on me, and now I often feel that my casual shoes are too loose. If you think that the tightness will be an issue for you (i.e. you have really wide feet) go for the MT20's, the strap is much less restrictive. Also a fair warning to barefoot shoe newbies, take it easy when you first get them, start small and work you way up the distance ladder, your tendons need to strengthen, otherwise your feet will ache and you could get shin splints. But overall, I love this shoe, and I'm getting a second pair. I don't know if there is a more versatile shoe at that price, and I don't think I ever want a different type of trail shoe.
