Sturdy design

Suunto MC-2 Pro Compass

Rating for this product: 4 February 28, 2012

I bought this for the slope meter. I may be doing something wrong, but the slope needle seems to "stick". Compass is light weight, slim, and sturdy.

Light and Fast, good pack stuffer

Stoic Hadron Down Anorak - Men's

Stoic Hadron Down Anorak - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 13, 2012

Light and fast.
Not suuuper warm... Great as a layer.
I do not like hiking in down, but at the top it is sometimes necessary. This jacket is great as a layer for using when you are waiting on your friends to catch up.
The cuffs are tight, which keeps gusts out.
Be careful when using the marsupial pouch for storing...the pouch does not have deep pockets.
The hood does not tighten, bummer.

Over all good backup jacket, around the house for those who do not keep the heat cranked in the winter, or layering.

Snow shoe, not slowshoe

MSR Evo Ascent Snowshoe

MSR Evo Ascent Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2012

Everlasting! College provided me a glimpse of these mo-fros.
Deep? Sure, no problem. Add the floater attachments....Item: CAS0707. Steep, no worries.
These snowshoes have full length crampons to carry you up and at 'em; straight, concave, convex, whatever!
Solid design. Simple mechanism. If your are a flat-lander snowshoer who is looking to gain some elevation off piste or a snowboarder w/o a split board looking to bag that peak for the coolest line, these are for you.
You do not need to be on Everest to enjoy these. Just be sure to take them off the the beaten path.
P.S. add the tails for heavy packs or extra floatation.

Outdoor Research Exos Cap

Outdoor Research Exos Cap

Good hat. Not sure about how windproof the material is. Fitting is good. I bought a L/XL. I have a good bit of hair, smaller may fit me a bit snugger.
I like how the brim holds, and how the hat does not loose it's shape after collapsing. Prefect hat for those ski tours, brisk waits at the bus stop or any outing for watching sports!

Good, sturdy, girthy pack

Ruffwear Palisades Dog Pack

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2012

Steady. Well balanced. Wide load coming through.
Waker is 90 lbs. Large fit good. He had a little bit of excess strap to work with under the belly. As far as the chest strap goes, spot on.
I loaded the pack with towels and full 32 oz. Nalgene bottles on each side. I included a jacket on one side and some mittens on one side and a pair of mittens on the other side to fatten things out. With weight in mind, no more than 5 lbs. on each side should fill this pack. Some water, most of his food, and a few poop bags is what this pack should carry.
Along the top is clip-in for a leash, which works well. I do not feel I could repel this dog from any distance using this as a harness.
The Pack is full of space to fill anything the dog needs....foldable water bowl, extra treats. A leash can be stored, attached, to the pack to make for easy access. You have to be thoughtful. Workable when you need to grab onto an already leashed dog!
Only trouble is getting the mule (dog) to move when fully loaded. Practice before fully loading. When your pack is heavy, who wants to carry your dogs goods?
