Mountain Hardwear Vertical Jacket - Men's

August 27, 2009

I have seen it in person and the picture is pretty accurate. It's sharp looking, but definitely bright and bold. Highlighter yellow or green flash would be accurate descriptions. I like it.

Mountain Hardwear Vertical Jacket - Men's

war2619792 - you ordered a large and it was too snug. So how tall are you and weight? That would help.

Mountain Hardwear Vertical Jacket - Men's

Yea please explain your "useless" comment further. I've used a powder skirt (no pants atchmt) for 10 years and not once has powder gotten in my pants or up my jacket during falls.

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2008

Pros - athletic cut, material, length of coat, velcro wrists, comfort, price
Cons - really long sleeves, "limp" collar

If you want more details, read on. This is a great coat. Lightweight, soft, and comfortable - great casual jacket. I am 6'3" 190 and got an XL - fits great. I normally wear a large in most things so take note. Perfect body fit - it's not easy finding clothes that aren't baggy on me but this is a jacket for fit people. The jacket hits right at my waist as I wanted, but the sleeves when not velcroed go to my outstretched fingertips (and i have long arms). But the velcro does solve that so whatever. As the other reviewer stated there is a wide range of motion in the sleeves. Feels great on, but my eyes keep going to the collar that is limp. Price is great, fit is great, look is great - collar issue is a deal breaker...but this is a good coat. Well done MHW.
p.s. the picture is not correct. the "mountain hardwear" on the sleeve is actually down by the wrist and not at the elbow .. for what it's worth.

Great jacket. 6'3" 190 and a large fits great, maybe a hair snug which is good. I love the cut of this coat; it's made for people in shape. Length is perfect (just slightly below waistline in front, a 1/4" longer in back). Collar is great - stays up when you want, down when you want. This coat seems warmer than most softshells I've tried - nice lining inside that works well. I really do love everything about this backcountry softshell...... except that there no wrist velcros. So very close to perfect.

F.Y.I. - The Abyss color is not black. Abyss is a dark navy blue. I know because I have one.

Best softshell at price

Marmot Leadville Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Leadville Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2008

Subject line says it all. Pros: collar, length (I'm 6'3" & it hits just below waistline - I bought a L), sleeves, wrists (velcro AND elastic combo is perfect), material, athletic fit, venting core/side panels (not pit zips, just a breathable material). Cons: honestly nothing bad to say about it. After wearing this coat, all my other coats seam too baggy. The black is a little basic looking from the front view since there are no seams, but the back and sides are awesome with the slightly different shades of black under the arms. I'd buy a dark blue one in a heartbeat if they offered. It is a sharp looking, form fitting, well made coat that blocks wind, repels light rain, and is very comfortable. Simply put, a great, great softshell. And no I don't have any affiliation with marmot.
