Power pack

Marmot Kompressor Backpack - 920cu in

Marmot Kompressor Backpack - 920cu in

Rating for this product: 4 December 17, 2011

This pack is well made and light. It packs into itself in the pocket in the top of the bag. Not sure how useful it would ultimately be as a stuff sack. Has reinforced areas for carrying heavy items, and it has padding that can be taken out. Definately a better choice than a light silk day bag. Have a look at the other Kompressor backpack models as the Plus and Ultra models are larger and offer useful little extras such as mesh pouches for water bottles and other items, which this model doesnt offer.

Light sabre for water

Hydro Photon Steripen Classic Handheld Water Purifier w/ Prefilter Bundle Pack

Hydro Photon Steripen Classic Handheld Water Purifier w/ Prefilter Bundle Pack

Rating for this product: 4 December 13, 2011

I bought the Steripen Emergency which is the red basic version. Bought for Everest basecamp. It takes 4 AA batteries which makes it rather weighty. Also remember when you start to not submerge the two metal bits near the base until the light flashes.

prAna Stretch Zion Pant - Men's

prAna Stretch Zion Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2011

These were too big for me so i gave them to my Dad. He went to New Zealand with these and went to Mt Cook in them. They performed well and have some movement which made them comfortable. They are also able to become 3 quarter length trousers which is cool. Has a built in belt and charcoal colour is almost black in reality.

Kelty Cosmic Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Kelty Cosmic Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2011

This sleeping bag is great value for what it offers and costs. Down 550 fill and is not too heavy and has ties for stopping movement. Packs small if used in a stuff sack such as the Stoic large stuff sack. I am rather stocky and the regular was quite a snug fit. Will be taken to Everest basecamp trek so will tested.

The sock that rocks

SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Sock

SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2011

This sock is comfortable and well made. Has nice tight stitching and has a classic wicking design. My girl friend and I found that our Smartwool socks started to wear on the tops of the toes and around the ankle. We will be taking them to Everest basecamp so we will see how they hold up. Another plus is that they are thick and true medium weight.

Getting those pale legs covered

Patagonia Retro Grade Pant - Men's

Patagonia Retro Grade Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 11, 2011

Got these in large and they were big as im between 32-34. They are durable but still comfortable. These pants are well made and are a good choice for a more durable and warmer pant than a nylon pant. Bought for Everest basecamp trek in winter. They also have good sized pockets and a buttoned one. Warning: Patagonia no longer ships internationally for BC found this out when i returned this pant.

Holding it in

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 4 December 11, 2011

I bought 2 of these in large and 1 in medium. The large were big enough to take a Kelty Cosmic Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down bag. The medium took 6 pairs of mountain socks, 8 t-shirts, 2 pants, 8 underware, and 2 thermal sets (top and bottom). They compress good however they either leak slightly or i havent done the top properly. I was able to carry twice as much kit in my pack because of these sacks.

Doctor of softness

SmartWool PhD Outdoor Medium Crew Sock - Women's

SmartWool PhD Outdoor Medium Crew Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 11, 2011

This sock is super soft and comfortable. It is tightly stitched and feels nice on the feet. It did wear a little after a few walks. This sock is a tad thin for a medium sock similar in thickness to the Bridgedale X-Hale Trailblaze Sock. This sock is thiner than other medium weight socks like the smartwool medium sock etc.

Wolf in sheeps clothing

Lorpen Merino Midweight Hiking Crew Sock

Lorpen Merino Midweight Hiking Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2011

This sock is merino wool and is tough. It feels well put together and has rub resistant material in key places similar to the Bridgedale X-Hale Trailblaze Sock, the only difference is that this sock is thicker. I think these socks are good all round socks taking the best bits from all the best socks we all love. It is soft and closely sticked like a Smartwool medium sock, it has rub resistant areas like the Bridgedale X-Hale Trailblaze Sock.

Twinkle toes

Bridgedale Trailblaze Sock - Men's

Bridgedale Trailblaze Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 11, 2011

This sock is designed well with key rub points around the sock fitted with extra padding. The bottom of the sock has padding for the ball of the foot and the heel, as well as for the side of the foot. I like the design, however the sock is rather thin for a medium level sock. Its more like a sports sock. Perhaps its best for hot climates? I would have like to have had this design on a thicker sock such as Smartwool medium sock thickness.

SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Sock - Women's

SmartWool Hiking Medium Crew Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 10, 2011

These socks are super soft compared to our Bridgedale and Lorpen socks. The stitching is nice and tight and it looks well made. Little signs of wearing along the top of the toes and heal, so will see the durablity of these socks in time, especially after Everest basecamp.

Bridgedale Summit Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 10, 2011

All good, got a little rubbing on the heel, but was a humid Australian day with sweat dripping off me. Obviously these socks are designed for cold not 30 degree humid days. Wanted to test before Everest trek.

Bridgedale Wool Fusion Summit Sock - Men's

Bridgedale Wool Fusion Summit Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 10, 2011

Extra hot and humid day in Australia so was an interesting test of the summits wicking properties in which it did well. (In training for Everest in which it will be used). However, the stitching across the toes was rough and rubbed my little toe enough for it to blister. So interestingly no rubbing caused by sweat just the stitching instead. Mankind (And Womenkind)should invent socks without stitching above the toes...

Bridgedale Endurance Trekker Sock - Women's

Bridgedale Endurance Trekker Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 December 10, 2011

Bought for Everest trek, used in training in Australia. The sock had tight loose thread across the top of ankle. This meant that it had to be cut off to prevent further rubbing and when i put the sock on, my toes would get caught in the loose hanging threads. Otherwise seems Ok.
