Too wide for me

KEEN Shellrock Mid WP Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2009

Nice and light but too wide for me. I've got a narrow girly foot though...

Wanted to like

Montrail CTC Mid GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's

Montrail CTC Mid GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 20, 2009

I really wanted to like these - they seemed like a perfect weight and the grippy rubber was a bonus. The hard toe box killed me when descending though, so I returned them. Maybe just a fit issue, I don't know....

Super Light

Red Theory Helmet

Red Theory Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 April 20, 2009

This is the lightest helmet I could find that fits me well - low profile, not everywhere on the mountain (like the G10 MX this year). No vents to fill with snow (they're internal under the brim).

Tip - don't buy audio earpieces. Take a pair of earbuds and shove them through the holes inside the earpieces - works perfect.

Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot - Men's

Salomon Malamute Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 20, 2009

Maly's fit me perfect, I've got a pretty narrow foot. Super stiff for riding fast and going large. Mine have 2 seasons of 50+ days (resort and splitboarding) on them and they're still going.

Replace the insoles - all snowboard boots come with crap footbeds. I've been using the Sole Ed Viesturs with good results.

Good for touring

Sugoi Finotherm Beanie

Sugoi Finotherm Beanie

Rating for this product: 4 February 2, 2009

My head gets too hot in a normal wool beanie on the uptrack, this one is nice and thin and just warm enough. Fits nice under my helmet for the ride down too. Might be too big if you've got a tiny head.

Perfect BC Pants

Westcomb Mirage Pant - Men's

Westcomb Mirage Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2008

I wear these for split-touring - they're super light, super breathable, and super waterproof. With the mirage jacket, they're a perfect bc setup for me. Long outside thigh vents help cool you off fast. I like that they have no pockets - most pants have way too many.

This jacket breathes better than any other shell I've owned and is super waterproof. Perfect for backcountry tours.

Unbelievably bad strap design

Patagonia Critical Mass Bag

Patagonia Critical Mass Bag

Rating for this product: 1 January 31, 2007

This bag would be perfect, if they hadn't completely blown the strap design. I don't know what Patagonia was thinking, but the strap can't be made short enough for the bag to sit correctly while biking (unless you're really, really tall). Everything else about the bag is great, but the strap issue made it unusable for me - I sent it back and bought a chrome metropolis instead.
