Spire vs. Super Makalu

Black Diamond Spire Contour Trekking Pole

Black Diamond Spire Contour Trekking Pole

Rating for this product: 5 April 12, 2007

I have used trekking poles for the past few years and until recently had been a devotee of the LEKI Super Makalu's. When I recently went to my local outfitters and found the new Black Diamond Spire, I knew I had to have a pair. The locking mechanisms and the elliptical design were what really caught my eye. They, in my opinion, are far superior to anything else on the market. The extended handle is also a major plus. I am glad I went with the new Spire and would encourage you to do the same. You won't be disappointed.

Kelty Rain Cover

Kelty Backpack Rain Cover

Kelty Backpack Rain Cover

Rating for this product: 5 May 24, 2005

I bought the Kelty Backpack Rain Cover because everyone kept saying, "Oh you've GOT to get a rain cover for your pack." I hated the thoughts of shelling out around $30.00 for what I had envisioned as a glorified garbage bag. Anyway, I relented. Boy was I surprised. The quality, attention to detail and fit of the Kelty rain cover far exceeded my expectations. I would have preferred a choice of colors but I can live with the grey. It would also be nice if Kelty would incorporate into its design a place to include an identification tag. In my honest opinion, Kelty backpacks and the Kelty rain cover are excellent values and worthy of your consideration. They have not failed me yet.

Lifesaver Whistle

Wildwasser Lifesaver Whistle

Wildwasser Lifesaver Whistle

Rating for this product: 5 May 24, 2005

If you want a loud whistle and the peace of mind that comes with it, this item is for you. It clips right on your pack for easy access and its blaze orange color is far superior to the customary black. This is an excellent value and, in my opinion, an essential piece of gear.
