Great socks

Stoic Merino Comp Trail No-Show Sock - 4-Pack

Stoic Merino Comp Trail No-Show Sock - 4-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2012

These are great socks. Even though they are a no show, they still fit with my backpacking boots. The merino is very nice because it adds a little extra cushion to your feet. This is the first time I have ever seen socks that are not only left/right specific, but are also labeled R and L. I haven't worn the the wrong side on the wrong foot yet, but be careful when you're stumbling around half awake in the dark. I'm sure it wouldn't be the end of the world though.

Comfortable and stylish

DC Boost Shoe - Men's

DC Boost Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2012

These shoes are great. They are a low-top tennis/running/skate shoe, but I mostly use them for street wear. They fit great, are very breathable, and never apply unwanted pressure to my feet. There is a slight arch support that travels all the way across your foot. At first I didn't like it but now that I'm used to it I find it very comfortable. If this isn't for you, it's only in the insole which can easily be traded out.

Mountain House Spaghetti with Meat Sauce - 2 Serving Entree

Rating for this product: 5 April 25, 2012

This stuff is great for backpacking. They are light weight and easy to prepare for the amount of food they have. They say they are two servings, but I'm a lean guy and can easily scarf one down by myself, especially on a trip when I'm hiking long distances.

Not very durable

Burton Impact Glove - Men's

Burton Impact Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 April 25, 2012

I got these because I was really excited about having the built in wrist supports, and they work nicely for the most part. After a while they begin to hurt (especially when you're going down a lot) and I find myself loosening them half way through the day.

The wrist supports make it a little more difficult to take these gloves off and put them on. This caused my gloves to tear on the inside from my hands pulling on the fabric. They still work fine, but it seems like Burton makes these with the intention of being replaced.

Good Jeans

Billabong Amplified Denim Pant - Men's

Billabong Amplified Denim Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 25, 2012

These are pretty nice jeans. They aren't too thin or too baggy for a straight leg jean. I like that they don't have a really baggy waist area, and that they have a little bit of a lower rise than normal. I got the deep indigo vintage color, and they turned out darker than the picture. Also, the wash doesn't show very well, they're almost a solid color.

New Balance M373 Shoe - Men's

New Balance M373 Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 April 25, 2012

I expected more out of a pair of running shoes. These shoes have almost no arch support, and they have a thin toe box. I did however like that they cradle the heal nicely.

Very functional

Smith Variant Brim Helmet

Smith Variant Brim Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

This helmet is very purposefully designed. The Boa adjustment is very easy to use and can be righty-tighty or lefty-tighty (for you left-handed folk). The vents are easy to close with gloves on when you get a burst of arctic wind on the lift, and I love the option to throw in audio system that you can get separately.

Cool Tent

Black Diamond MesaTent: 2-Person 3-Season

Black Diamond MesaTent: 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 March 29, 2012

This is a pretty good tent overall. I like that it has doors on both sides, and the 44 inch height is roomy for a two person tent. Set up is quick and easy, the single pole makes it easy for one person. It is a little difficult to zip the interior doors if you have it staked down tightly and requires two hands. The vestibules are quite small, and allow slightly more space than you need to take your shoes off. Also it would be nice if the fly came closer to the ground.

Completes the wax

Toko Base Brush

Toko Base Brush

Rating for this product: 5 January 20, 2012

This is a good brush. The nylon really completes a fresh new wax job. It's not so big that you have to use to hands, but it is just big enough that you can if you really want to dig in to it. Dimensions measure 6x3x1 in.

Cool beanie

Backcountry.com Reversible Goat Beanie

Backcountry.com Reversible Goat Beanie

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2012

This beanie is very warm, and not as itchy as some cotton beanies. It's nice to be able to turn it inside out if you're feeling like a change that has no consequences. I would have liked it if it were form fitting, as it does have that extra beanie material above your head when you wear it normally. If you yank it on you can cover your eyes and neck if you're feeling like a gangsta.

Great set for the price

Backcountry.com Titanium Cookset - 1650ml

Backcountry.com Titanium Cookset - 1650ml

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2012

This set is super light and gets the job done. I haven't used it for frying, but other people say that it isn't 1650ml, or non-stick. The handles work fine, but they aren't the best design out there. The two handles on the pot have the ability to sway side to side while holding it, and the lid handle has to be bent inward to be placed back in travel position. It works just fine on the Jetboil with the pot adapter if you stir regularly and watch the flame level. It's not the highest quality, but it's a great first time set for the price.

Comfortable

Acorn Tex Moc Slipper - Men's

Acorn Tex Moc Slipper - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 18, 2012

These slippers are both warm and comfortable. I wear a size 10-10.5 shoe and the large is a good size for me. My heel pops out if I wear them to the store, but I know the mediums wouldn't allow my feet to relax completely. The edges of the sole do taper down a little bit, which gives you a slight feeling of toe pack if you walk in them often. Although the sole is rubber, the black rim around the slipper is suede. I wouldn't wear them outside if it's excessively wet. No arch support, but these are great for wearing at home and on the occasional beer run when required.

DAKINE X-Mat Stomp Pad

DAKINE X-Mat Stomp Pad

Rating for this product: 3 January 18, 2012

This pad will do just fine for someone that goes boarding a few times a year. The spikes are very small and look like they're going to break off. The spikes also make it painful if you hit them while carrying your board bare-handed. I got the Burton split mat and it does a much better job than this one.

Good pad

Burton Split Mat

Burton Split Mat

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2012

Slapped this on my board and I was good to go. It has a good size spike to keep you from fumbling like a fool in the lift line, well most of the time. The pad is 4.5 inches in diameter. It's not a super scraper if that's what you're looking for, but it does the job for me as an all around stomp pad.

No good

Coal Cameron Glove - Women's

Coal Cameron Glove - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 January 18, 2012

My wife wore these for three days and they began to fall apart between the thumb and index finger. I know these aren't supposed to be super tough gloves, but I certainly wasn't aiming for one-time-use disposables either. Besides the workmanship she tells me they are soft and warm, and make good driving gloves. Bottom line: my grandma could knit a higher quality hobo glove.

Toko Base Brush

January 17, 2012

I think i need a metal brush for cleaning dirt and wax before a fresh wax and for buffing after wax. Should I go straight to the copper brush or is there some advantage to the nylon/copper brush? Can someone explain the uses and benefits of all three (nylon, nylon/copper, copper)? I want a good go to brush with out having to buy 2 or 3 different ones.

Better for arched boots

Burton Large Scraper Mat

Burton Large Scraper Mat

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2012

This is a great stomp pad. It is made of hard rubber and appears to be very durable. However I decided to return it before I mounted it because of the way it fit with my snowboard boots. The scraper is about twice as tall as the spikes, making this more of a scraper pad than a flat stomp pad. My boots are flat across the bottom, making it teeter on the taller scraper portion of the pad. If you have a raised arch on the bottom of your boots this stomp pad will work great, you'll be able to steer, scrape, and keep your boot on the board while in the lift line. The pad is large and goes almost to the edges of the board. The clear is slightly foggy, but is still the best way to have a stomp pad and preserve your graphics.

Backcountry.com Klean Kanteen Wide Insulated Bottle w/Duo Cap - 16oz

Backcountry.com Klean Kanteen Wide Insulated Bottle w/Duo Cap - 16oz

Rating for this product: 4 December 18, 2011

This really should have five stars, but I rated four because the drinkable lid is not completely sealed when closed. Love it with the bottle lid because it seals tight and slips in the backpack without a problem. The bottle lid is also nice because you can carry it using two fingers instead of one, or clip a caribiner to it.

Stoic MDWT Sleeping Pad - Long

Stoic MDWT Sleeping Pad - Long

Rating for this product: 4 October 19, 2011

This is a great car camping pad. It's a little tricky in smaller tents and the truck bed due to its length, but letting some of the air out helps with that. As others have mentioned it is very comfortable for the side sleeper. I can stand on it with both feet in the middle and still not touch the ground.

Petzl Tikka XP 2 Headlamp with CORE Baterry Kit

Petzl Tikka XP 2 Headlamp with CORE Baterry Kit

Rating for this product: 5 October 19, 2011

This is the best, basic headlamp money can buy. The rechargeable battery is simple and easy to program with the Petzl software, and it holds a charge like a champ. I've used this headlamp climbing multiple times, at home in the garage, as well as on multiple weekend trips all on a single charge. The best thing is if your battery does die and you have no charge source, back up AAAs will do just fine.

not top quality

Vasque Juxt Hiking Shoe - Men's

Vasque Juxt Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 August 18, 2011

These shoes were great for a month or two, until they started to wear out like shoes from payless. I really liked the look and the fit of them when I first got them. The laces allow you to customize the fit for thinner or slightly wider feet, or if you want to cinch them down so you don't pack your toes on the downhill. The tread however wore out very quickly. These shoes are very slippery on polished and wet rocks. After a couple months the stitching that holds the seams together began to spread apart, and a hole was easily ripped in the material on a short day hike. I think these are great shoes to wear around town or for a walk in the park, but if you plan to put them through the ringer like I did, get something that will give you more for your money.
