Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

January 4, 2012

I have both, and there is not much diff between the two. The 200 is slightly thicker and fuller bodied than the 150. So far I like the feel of the 200 a little better.

Stoked about Stoic!

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 4, 2012

Awesome shirt, but size up if you want to look descent wearing this solo. I normaly wear med or large(5'9 185 lbs). XL in this thirt fits like a large on me. If you want to use this as a base layer only, stick with your normal size. It NEVER STINKS wich is great for many days in da woods. When you sweat a lot, it will stretch up to one size larger. I guess that's the nature of the merino. Buy this shirt, you will want another!

Infamous Stoic SIZING ISSUE

Stoic Microlith Softshell Pant - Men's

Stoic Microlith Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 4, 2012

I'm 5'9.5 & 185 lbs. Let me start off by saying I never take points off for fit, but these are ridiculous. The large were to tight in the hip (think commpression). I exchanged for XL, and they were entirely to big. If you tighten up the belt a little
,because of the design, you get extreme prune waist. I could roll up the bottom 6-7in and they would still touch the ground.
They only have ONE pocket(PERIOD) that barely fit my iphone with an otterbox.
They are very well made. I realy wanted these to work, but with only the one pocket and the fit issues I could not reccomend these pants. I returned them and I'm going for the Marmot Scree pant.

Stoic Cardiff Beanie

Stoic Cardiff Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 December 27, 2011

Warmer than my all fleece beanie. It does get slightly scratchy when temps rise. Very comfy otherwise. More of a brick color.

Outdoor Research Ferrosi Hooded Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Ferrosi Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 22, 2011

So far I love the jacket and it's very comfortable(I wear it everyday), BUT. The DWR doesn't hold up too well, I've had it for a month or more. The DWR wears down under the arms. That's not realy the jackets fault, it's just the fault of the whatever treatment OR gave it. It is already fraying SLIGHTLY around my chin. Overall it's still a great jacket and I think I would buy another. I'll update later.

NUCLEAR Reactor!!

MSR Reactor Stove

MSR Reactor Stove

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

Buy this thing! It boils 2 cups in about 1min and 25sec and 4 cups in 2min and 30-40sec. It is pretty huge, but hey, it's smaller than a Saturn V rocket engine lol. If you nest it with an 8 oz fuel can, don't count on putting much else in there with it. Be careful how you pack it. The folding handle will scar stuff(my platypus) in your pack, if it constantly rubs it. I ended up wraping it in my sham-wow. It is hard to light in wind. Tip: to get it primed(turn red) hold your lighter over it and then move your hand quickly because the excess gas lights first(you can't see it!!). You will see a slight vapor if it lit. Then IMMEDIATELY set the pot on the burner. Once the burner is covered by the pot it will prime on its own.

The North Face SDS 1/4-Zip Fleece Top - Men's

The North Face SDS 1/4-Zip Fleece Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 16, 2011

I researched these pullovers. I chose this one over the polartec ones, although I love polartec. This sds fleece has the grid pattern cut into it, so it's at least 30% more warm than conventional fleece. The seam construction is top notch. For the money this is one of the best 2nd layers available.
Con: I wish it was a 3/4 zip:(

Take 'em skydiving!

The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pant - Men's

The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2011

I've worn these: backpacking, biking, town, long trips, skydiving ect.. They hold up very well. I wear them ALMOST every day(I'm wearing them now!). They do pill slightly between the legs. You can actually fit a FULL SIZE NALGENE bottle in the front hip pockets! I took them skydiving and we seat landed in a gravel pit. The gravel did scar the fabric a little, but didn't tear it. I just looks like shiny marks on the rear end! LOL

TrekSta Evolution II Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2011

I love them so far, but I have yet to backpack in them. They are very burly shoes. The fit is terrific, very well made shoes. They feel totaly different than any other shoe I've ever worn. I will update after the next backpacking trip.

I love the jacket and it's actually breathable. Not just scientifically breathable. Water does soak the dri-clime cuffs. Still cool! Check out my youtube video below.

Sierra Designs Down Packable Bootie Slipper - Men's

Sierra Designs Down Packable Bootie Slipper - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2011

I wish I could give it 4.5 stars. Only because the padding flattens out pretty good, therefore reducing the warmth on the bottom a little(not much). Other than that, they surround your feet in cloud of toasty warmth, but because of the down insulation they are not too hot. I wear an 11 in most shoes and I use up all the room in these duck feet(size LG). My mom suffers cold feet all winter long, but she was able to go all morning with no socks in these booties. For her that's amazing!
They are 50/50 DUCK down. They have two rings of elastic(top and under ankle), so the fit amazingly well and hold in all the toast! BUY THEM!!

Nothin' I don't like!

The North Face Recon Backpack - 1830 cu in

The North Face Recon Backpack - 1830 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2011

I've used this bag from everything to travel, internet work on roofs, backpacking, and urban use. During the internet duty it endured constant, constant abrasion. The only real wear(pilling)is on the back panel where the roof was constantly rubbing it. It also sat in Texas sun for hours on end (10-110 deg.F). I took it backpacking with 25lbs aboard. I had a down puffy, rain wear, food ,a military goretex bivy, big agnes pad, cook ware. ect...It handled it all very well. The small hip belt does actually put some of the weight on your hips. The hydration/laptop sleeve is padded on the bottom and sides; it makes for good insulation also. My laptop is HUGE and it fits in this bag with little room to spare. My favorite feature is the mesh front compartment, it is very durable. Velcro products do not snag it, and it will hold 2 mid layers. Both water bottle pockets will hold a full size nalgene. AWSOME BAG!
