I work at Backcountry as a LiveHelp Gearhead. I am originally from Utah and with all of the adventures I have not really seen a reason to leave. Lacrosse kept me busy through high school and college, but I was always able to find time to go rock climbing, camping, biking, fishing and snowboarding.

Preferred ear buds

Skullcandy 50/50 Ear Buds with Mic3

Skullcandy 50/50 Ear Buds with Mic3

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

I have used a few different styles of ear buds from Skullcandy and other brands. I had issues with the Smokin Ear Buds falling out when running or climbing but these 50/50's have worked great. The sound is awesome and having the microphone and quick answer option is very convenient when snowboarding or running.

Still the best

La Sportiva Miura VS Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe

La Sportiva Miura VS Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

I just picked up my second pair, about 6 months after my previous review. I started using them heavily indoors throughout the winter and the rubber wore down quick and the toes blew out. With the amount of use I put on them, they definitely exceeded my expectations and after checking out a few new options, these still were the best option for me.

First Petzl

Petzl Tikka XP 2 Headlamp

Petzl Tikka XP 2 Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

This was my first purchase of a Petzl headlamp and I am very impressed so far. It's extremely bright and after having the Core system demo'd by the Petzl reps, I am definitely interested in getting that additional feature set up. The strap has stayed on a helmet fine and the batteries have lasted through a few weekends out camping. Will post again when the core is set up

Sweet Pack!

Ruffwear Approach Dog Pack

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

Bought this for my 30 lb Brittany, a small fit her perfectly. It hasn't seemed to bug her at all and with the days and hikes that we have spent in the mountains, she has not had the same chafing problem as listed below. Its got plenty of space for the pup to carry any necessities and it tightens down so it doesn't flop all over the place or slide around.

Great shorts

Stoic Overhang Short - Men's

Stoic Overhang Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

Expected a thinner material when I purchased these, love the shorts regardless. They are very comfortable and they work well for climbing and hiking and they are nice enough to wear out casually any time.

Does the job

The North Face Realization Jacket - Men's

The North Face Realization Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 30, 2012

Conditions haven't really been spectacular in testing out all of the specs for the jacket, but it has kept me dry and the ventilation is decent. There is a decent amount of material in the jacket which provides some warmth. Design is nice and the Hyvent 2L has worked well for some heavy snow storms, hiking backcountry and in the resort. Paired with a Patagonia Nano Puff and a nice base layer, there is plenty of warmth in single digit temps and a little below.

Nice Helmet

Smith Maze Helmet

Smith Maze Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 January 30, 2012

The Maze is a nice helmet, it is comfortable and there is definitely plenty of warmth without a hat. The venting isn't the best, but not a huge issue. The helmet is very light and Oakley Goggles fit it nicely

Nice Rope

Sterling Evolution Velocity Rope - 9.8mm

Sterling Evolution Velocity Rope - 9.8mm

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2011

I've been using this rope fairly consistently for the last year, 3-4 days a week. I haven't had issues with it gathering dirt too bad and it feeds real nicely through the GriGri2. I also have not seen any considerable signs of wear/tear. Easily noticeable mid mark is a nice feature

Tons of Space, minor annoyance

Black Diamond Infinity 60 Backpack - 3660-3845cu in

Black Diamond Infinity 60 Backpack - 3660-3845cu in

Rating for this product: 4 September 13, 2011

This pack is fairly light, has plenty of space for a multi-day trip, and is very comfortable. Only issue that I have found is a squeaking that occurs when the waist strap is fastened. BDEL just said to apply some dry lube to the swivel to get rid of this annoying squeak.

Easy set up, great protection

Eagles Nest Outfitters ProFly Rain Tarp

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

Set up took 3 or 4 minutes tops. Although pricey, packs down more compact than a tarp and sets up much easier. Wish it came with stakes, but had enough laying around to not have to buy extra.

Best way to camp

Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest Hammock

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

ENO Hammocks have become the go to source for comfort when sleeping among my friends and I. It is usually easy to find trees far enough apart or close enough together to set up the hammock and get a great nights rest. When car camping, we have set the hammock up between a car and a tree, or two cars.

More comfort camping than at home

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 September 13, 2011

This is by far the most comfortable sleeping pad that I have ever used. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because after several months of heavy use, I woke up in the middle of the night to it mostly deflated. After that trip I tried finding a leak to patch with no success and ended up exchanging the pad. No problems with the new one.
Did not have a problem inflating this pad whether it was after a long day climbing or 15 miles of hiking.
I was skeptical about the life expectancy with the thin material, but we will see how the second pad holds up.

Solid All Around Shoes

La Sportiva Miura VS Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe

La Sportiva Miura VS Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

I've been using these shoes fairly heavily for the last several months and have not looked back at any other shoes. The performance of the rubber combined with the comfort of the shoes over time beats any other shoes that I have tried. For the amount of use that I have put on the shoes, I would expect the rubber to be nearing replacement, but these shoes still have more than enough life in them.

Arc'teryx S220 LT Harness - Men's

Arc'teryx S220 LT Harness - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

Love the harness! Super light weight and comfortable. Can take falls sport climbing all day with no discomfort. Only downside is the lack of a haul loop, not a deal breaker though. Awesome colors aswell!
