ARVA Light 240 Probe

ARVA Light 240 Probe

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

Wouldn't mind a bit more length or 1 cm markings but if you don't do precise snow science work this is everything you could need. Nothing to break in the backcountry and won't freeze up like push buttons do. Easy to secure and release when time is counting down.

Real Reel

Greys GX300 Fly Reel

Greys GX300 Fly Reel

Rating for this product: 4 May 14, 2012

So I don't fish for huge fish. I would like to, but I live in Utah and we really have trout to work with. If I were out for salmon or tarpon or something of that size I'd get a bit more quality so that I didn't ned to buy a new one every year. However, where I am fishing a reel holds line and thats about it. if you need a solid line holder with a workable drag this is an awesome reel. Just keep it out of the sand as with any reel and you will be happy.

Umpqua Barr's Copper John - 2-Pack

Umpqua Barr's Copper John - 2-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

First off, great tie quality. I am always impressed with Umpqua's quality but had the chance to compare these with a cheaper copper john and quickly gave the other to a buddy who had none. If you live in an area where these are effective, pick a couple up.

If you have the hatch

Umpqua Barr's Flashback Emerger - 2-Pack

Umpqua Barr's Flashback Emerger - 2-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

If you have a PMD or BWO hatch get these. throw them in that little place you know of and see what happens. First cast brought in a 17 inch Rainbow and it didn't stop. Tie quality is amazing, you will most likely lose this fly before it falls apart on you.

No problem nippers

Umpqua Rising Nippas

Umpqua Rising Nippas

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

You know these kind of things are important. Get ones that work well. these don't slip out of your fingers while you clip line, that can attach to a lanyard very easily, and they have that nice little point for removing the excess glue in the eye of the hook. Everything you need, a few things you want, and a reasonable price.

Almost what I wanted

Angler's Accessories BossTin Weights

Angler's Accessories BossTin Weights

Rating for this product: 3 May 14, 2012

I am all about not polluting our waters while I fish. The tin instead of lead is an excellent idea for this. However, the lack of a reopening device means I sacrifice my leader when I want to change weights. It also means I can't reuse my weights to help save the environment. Change that one thing and they would be perfect, I'd even pay more for them.

Scientific Anglers Trout Leader - 3-Pack

Scientific Anglers Trout Leader - 3-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

You know that leaders don't last. get the three pack and don't worry about not having enough to get through your day. Even better, get enough that you can lend them to your friends when they run out and make them pick up the bar tab in return.

One and only

Angler's Accessories Thingamabobber - 3-Pack

Angler's Accessories Thingamabobber - 3-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

I have a few of these which I have picked bought and a few others I have found while fishing. Easy to attach and even easier to see a strike. If you are moving from hole to hole and need to change depth, no problem just a little slide and you're set. I have even had strikes on these indicators (slightly frustrating) but at least it didn't scare the fish.

Angler's Accessories 5.5in Scissor/Forceps Combo

Angler's Accessories 5.5in Scissor/Forceps Combo

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2012

These forceps are exactly what you need if you need a third hand. With a month of using these and no signs of degradation I would be willing to bet they are going to last a while.

Remember that time you left coffee at home?

GSI Outdoors Collapsible Java Drip

GSI Outdoors Collapsible Java Drip

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

I used to bring instant coffee on trips to avoid bring bulky coffee making supplies. Then I found this. It works like a charm and cleans easily. It also doubles as a funnel if you need such a thing. Store the coffee filters in the lid and slid it into the bottom of your pot set.

Wild Country Wild Wire Carabiner - 5-Pack

Wild Country Wild Wire Carabiner - 5-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

Not the lightest biner on the market but it sure works like a charm. Find myself racking up alpine draws with these before any other. Highly suggest getting a set or few.

I haven't used too many different chalks, but I find that this seems to do the trick. I don't find myself dipping for more every few moves and a little goes a long way.

I love coming home from work and laying around in my hammock. This thing is light enough to take out camping so you can do the same in the woods. Highly highly recommend.

Reduce the bulk

Black Diamond Dynex Sewn Runners

Black Diamond Dynex Sewn Runners

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

I love using dyneema slings as my primary slings. I find the the biggest advantage while climbing is the lack of bulk. I like when my rack can stay nice and neat.

If you're going nylon

Metolius 18mm Open Nylon Sling

Metolius 18mm Open Nylon Sling

Rating for this product: 4 September 14, 2011

I have a couple of these and use them as my utility slings for when I'm going to a static system. For most uses though I suggest going Dyneema for not much more money.

Good cordelette

Blue Water Pre Cut Accessory Cord - 6mm x 30ft

Blue Water Pre Cut Accessory Cord - 6mm x 30ft

Rating for this product: 4 September 14, 2011

Its solid and trust worthy. Holds well on anchors but as the previous review stated, its a bit too stiff for most other uses. Over all I'm stoked, but will be using other cord for prusiks and slinging protection.

Meh

Metolius Element Key Lock Belay Carabiner

Metolius Element Key Lock Belay Carabiner

Rating for this product: 3 September 14, 2011

They work I guess would be the point of this. This is a locking carabiner and so far its worked well enough for making sure a biner doesn't open unexpectedly, but there is nothing special about this model other than it may be a little small for most uses of a locking biner. I tend to find myself locking off gear on anchors to create a fully closed system with these.

Solid

Black Diamond FreeWire Quickdraw

Black Diamond FreeWire Quickdraw

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

I picked up a bunch of these a little while ago to increase my rack. Found them to be a solid quick draw so I picked up a few more. They are a bit heavy, but if you're really complaining about weight sport climbing you should probably stop being a weight weenie. You're probably not even looking at these anyways. I suggest you get a bunch of these especially for the price. No cheaper way to acquire some solid wire carabiners even if you don't want the draws.

Dig em out

Black Diamond Nut Tool

Black Diamond Nut Tool

Rating for this product: 4 September 14, 2011

I've been able to use this tool a bit over the last few weeks and it performs like a nut tool. I think it could use a rounded end to make it more comfortable to bang on with my hand, but if you're really that worried, take a dead carabiner or an old hex or just something to use as a hammer and our problem is solved.

A round of applause for the Wave

Leatherman Wave Multi-Tool

Leatherman Wave Multi-Tool

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

I'm stoked on this, i use it for just about anything you can think of. The construction is Leatherman or in other words bombproof. The only suggestion I have is to make a leash for it and attach it to your belt loops or something similar. This helps avoid that time when you undo your belt and it slides right of the end and falls somewhere you will never be able to reach it. Watched this happen to a friend and I wish it upon no one.

For the weight watchers

Wild Country Anodized Rockcentrics Set #3-9

Wild Country Anodized Rockcentrics Set #3-9

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

When I find myself trying to reduce weight on easier accents I turn to the Rockcentrics. I find when I can take the little extra care to look for the best hex placements I can eliminate most cams off my rack. I do not suggest doing this on routes that you may find difficult, but works well for mountaineering ascents where you want protection. With the curves along each of the placement sides the seem to slide into place without effort. Most of these fit in cracks large enough to get your hand into therefore eliminating the need for wires. The Dyneema slings in my experience tend to help keep the pieces in the wall despite rope drag. Overall I am very happy with these pieces when I am trying to reduce the weight of my rack.

Impressed

DMM Wallnuts Sets

DMM Wallnuts Sets

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2011

I bought a full set of these recently and have had ample time to use them. I had a set of BD stoppers and after using these don't find myself taking the BD set anymore. The groove down the center allows for more placements and more surface area on placements. They do seem to wedge themselves in securely with little force, haven't had an issue removing them yet, but haven't fallen on one either. All in all this would be my recommendation for stopper set. If you feel like you need more pieces I suggest you get the DMM Offsets to fill out your rack.
