Spacious value

The North Face Solaris 35 Backpack - 2150cu in

The North Face Solaris 35 Backpack - 2150cu in

Rating for this product: 4 March 3, 2010

I bought this pack because of the sale, I needed to replace my trusty old Cato's which was pushing close to 10 years old I think. This pack seemed among the most spacious of all the north face daypacks. Plus I prefer to have one cavernous pocket as opposed to so many divided sections, and this one delivers in that aspect to.

I agree with the sizing issue that many have commented on. But the sad truth is that I tried on a lot of north face daypacks at a store and every single one was like that. However I'll say that I'm 5'10" 220lbs and I'm able to work with this one. It's not ideal as the shoulder straps are essentially all the way lax.

I have been a fan of TNF gear for a real long time now, unfortunately now it seems that they are moving towards the masses because it seems most of their packs have laptop sleeves and other non essential outdoor accessories. But this Solaris 35 holds to the ol TNF philosophy that I love which made pure outdoor gear and not bookbags.

Coleman Hibernation Sleeping Bag

February 27, 2009

Anybody have any luck finding a dry bag to stick this beast in? I can roll mine up to 14"x18" and I need to be able to keep it dry on canoe trips.

Will this bag fit in a two person backpacking tent like the northface roadrunner 23? Also has anyone had any luck putting this beast into a stuff sack?

Brunton Bruntane Canister

Brunton Bruntane Canister

Rating for this product: 5 March 3, 2008

Of course it won't fit the jetboil, it's a standard diameter- non-jetboil brand- bottle. Otherwise it's a great canister, it's less fuel than others but that makes it great for short trips.

MSR MiniWorks Ex Ceramic Water Filter

MSR MiniWorks Ex Ceramic Water Filter

Rating for this product: 5 May 3, 2005

Great little filter. Compact, extremely easily maintained. The only thing is that I think I'm gonna change the plastic pin that serves as the pivot for the handle. Plastic is great, but I don't trust it that much.

The North Face Meridian Cargo Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 3, 2005

These shorts are perfect, very comfortable, durable, and they dry really quick. A bit on the short side but what I look like while I climb is not my priority.
