I have 2 of these (S & M) and the S is overhead-friendly; the M is not. I use the M for car camping. It holds ALL of my weekend camping gear, including tent, sleeping bag, stove, clothes, sandals, etc. Keeps everything dry as well. I am planning a trip to CR and I'm taking the S (no check bags). I don't need too much gear, just clothing and incidentals which I will carry in my Osprey Talon 22 daypack. This is very high quality gear. You will never need to replace it even though you will be enticed by other gear. The colors are terrific too.

Kayland Zephyr Hiking Boot - Men's

Kayland Zephyr Hiking Boot - Men's

So far, I have only driven these indoors to assure they are what I want. I bought some Superfeet insoles for these, but I don't seem to need them. They are very light with great ankle support. I have 2 other pairs of hiking boots...full leather Garmonts (which I adore, but not waterproof) and a pair of Keen which are waterproof but are not comfortable for me even on a very short hike. I am planning on walking the last stage of the Camino in Spain (about 75 miles) and carrying a GoLite pack with less than 17 lbs of gear.
