I am Down with the Down With it Parka

Patagonia Down With It Parka - Women's

Patagonia Down With It Parka - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2008

Wore a t-shirt and leggings on 25 degree weather on Christmas day and it was a fantastic feeling.

I love the deep pockets which warmed my hands (no gloves needed!).

It is a wonderful feeling to wear a puffy jacket like this that does not make you look like the State Puff Marshmallow woman!

Flattering fit and light but does not compromise warmth!

The North Face Arctic Down Parka - Women's

December 12, 2008

Does this jacket make it feel like the State Puff Marshmellow Man? Is there a slim fit. I am small and NF XS tends to run huge and my dilemma is finding a jacket like this that is flattering.

Cut is Short & Wider Than Expected

The North Face Amplitude Triclimate Jacket - Women's

The North Face Amplitude Triclimate Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 26, 2008

It broke my heart that the XS was too wide for my slender/athletic frame (5'2" 100 lbs). The jacket appeared slim on the image but on the actual body, it is much bulkier than it appeared. On brisk windy days, the bulk / extra room didn't offer much efficient warmth and inhibited freer movement. The two front pockets could be deeper to keep items more secure. On the up side, the key clip on the right front pocket helped with keeping my keys from falling out and getting swallowed in the snow. Internal pocket kept my cellphone secure; offering easy access to a ringing phone; my Classic video iPod can fit into this pocket. Pit zips offered major relief after running in the fields with our endless energy Golden puppy! I would've given this jacket 5 stars if it is was more of a performance or flattering feminine fit and if the liner zipped in vs. snaps. Snaps are not very secure, hence sustainability is questionable. With the snaps, the liner sloppily slips out when putting on or taking off the jacket. It would be a major plus to be able to stow the hood round the neck when not in use. When not in use, can you tune out that hood flopping in the wind? Just see!

Talkeetna Parka could be Longer in Length

The North Face Talkeetna Triclimate Parka - Women's

The North Face Talkeetna Triclimate Parka - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 25, 2008

I initially purchased the W Amplitude Triclimate but decided to go with the W Talkeetna Triclimate thinking that it would be much longer just like it said in the description. Unfortunately, it is only 1 inch longer (after speaking to a NF customer service rep) than the Amplitude Triclimate and indeed roomier as well. I have a petite frame (female 5'2" at 100 lbs) and prefer a slimmer/performance cut jacket. That said, the Talkeetna Triclimate is still a functional jacket; quite warm regardless of the shorter cut. I also like the deeper pockets of the Talkeetna Triclimate. I would've given it 5 stars if it was longer and slimmer or has a more feminine silhouette. The description was misleading. I got really excited thinking it would be much longer. Interestingly enough, it seems that NF make their jackets quite shorter than the other brands. I have owned some Patagonia & Arc Tery'x jackets and have been quite happy with the cuts. Maybe NF will create a parka that fits the description I am looking for for Fall 2008. We'll see!
