The North Face Allegheny Bx Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Heatshield

September 3, 2009

we have these bags and have never actually tried zipping them together, though it should be possible since there isn't really a top to the bag and a hood to worry about if you flip one over. I have found these sleeping bags at local stores like Dicks Sporting goods and such. You might be able to check out the zipper their if you're concerned.

Great overnight pack

Kelty Pawnee Backpack - 3300cu in

Kelty Pawnee Backpack - 3300cu in

Rating for this product: 4 May 26, 2009

When it comes to packs, fit matters. This pack fit my 19.5" torso perfectly and hugged my body nicely as I climbed over and under blowdowns. The hipbelt beats all others I have tried on my bony hips, and the shoulder straps provided enough cushion against my bony collarbones, a problem with a number of packs I've tried on. Easily carried 30lbs of my gear and my 20* bag. It could easily carry 35-40lbs but if carrying that much weight and gear I'd move up to my multiday pack. Only complaints would be the hydration pocket as mentioned below and the side pockets. The hydration pocket lacks a loop to hang the bladder and isn't deep enough when the sleeping bag is put in. The side pockets can fit a 1L bottle, but only if the pack isn't loaded full. Since I use a bladder that's not big deal. They handle the tent poles and snacks for easy access. Front pocket and lid pocket make personal and other frequent use items easy to get to. I'd add this pack to your pack list when searching for a winter day/summer overnight pack. The budget price is very nice.

nice shirt

ExOfficio Dryflylite Button-Up Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

ExOfficio Dryflylite Button-Up Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 13, 2009

I'm 5"11, 150 with a larger chest and found this shirt to fit my longer arms and chest perfectly. I couldn't believe how light the fabric was and it almost felt like I was nearing nothing while spending the day at the themepark. The back vent and roll up sleeves were great for the hotter day. Rolling down the sleeves gave a little warmth when it cooled down after sunset but the back vent let in the cooler night air. Nothing a light jacket can't fix. My boyfriend commented on how light the fabric is and wants to get a mens version for theme park and other outdoor events.

Love it!

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Women's

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 13, 2009

I very rarely wear fleece jackets simply because they let the wind blow right through. I had been looking for some time for a lightweight jacket that could fit the bill for temps in the 40s to 50s, something my fleece jackets seemed to do OK with when it wasn't windy. I bought this jacket and it hasn't disappointed. It's too warm to wear hiking and has worked great as for around town and walking into and from work. Depending on the layers underneath, I can wear as low at 30 if I am walking and with a light long sleeve am comfortable in the 50s with the pockets open. It blocks the wind amazingly well and the nice plush lining adds nice insulation compared to other windproof fleece jackets that only have a thin polyester layer. My only complaint would be the size of the pockets, which are great for ventilating when open, but when I stick my hands in during cold temps I can feel a chill. I just wear heavier clothes and keep them zipped up. My boyfriend calls me his "monster" when I wear it. I think it looks a lot dressier than the Monkey Woman jackets, which just remind me of the muppets and don't block any wind. I bought the brown color and love it.

Excellent cushioning

YAKTRAX Yaktrax Stable Trax Insoles

YAKTRAX Yaktrax Stable Trax Insoles

Rating for this product: 5 May 28, 2008

Bought these to replace the stock insoles in my backpacking boots. My old insoles would give me sore feet within 6 or 7 miles dayhiking. I went 18 miles this past weekend with 35lbs and both feet felt as good at the end of the day as they did in the morning. The insole wicked perspiration from my feet and provided excellent heal and forefoot cushioning. Would definitely recommend if your stock insoles are just not cutting it and you can't afford to buy the nice Superfeet insoles.

Excellent pack!

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Rating for this product: 4 April 11, 2008

My torso was just a hair too long for the womens Ariel 65, so I combined the womens harness with the Aether 70 and bam, my perfect pack was born. The pack hugs my body and carries loads very well, swallowing winter gear with ease and compressing easily when needed. I only wish the pack had a some more pockets to stash smaller items and help with organization.

Ok for warm weather sleeping

The North Face Allegheny Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

The North Face Allegheny Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 3 January 9, 2008

I bought this for cool spring and fall weather. What I like: The roominess of a rectangular bag, its lightweight, and it compacts really well. What I don't like: I was chilled at 55 in t-shirt and shorts. After putting on my driclime windshirt I was a bit warmer but still not that comfortable and we were in a tent Its a good lightweight bag for the warmer months as something to keep the chill away, but I am not trusting it to keep me warm below 50. Given my previous bag was a The North Face and was overrated in its temp but ALOT, I wasn't surprised when I was chilled at 55. Oh well, it was a gift and well, one can't complain too much when something is given to you free.

Oh so comfortable...

KEEN Newport H2 Sandal - Men's

KEEN Newport H2 Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 27, 2007

I bought these because I heard they were very comfortable. After lots of walking in my Tevas the balls of my feet hurt and I can feel the shock in my knees. After spending entire days in my Venice H2s my feet don't hurt a bit! My entire foot is cushioned and I love the wide toe box. Only drawback is the antimicrobial treatment didn't last long. They developed sandal funk pretty quickly, so they only get worn every other day and get the occasional scrub and soak.

Very comfortable

KEEN Venice H2 Sandal - Men's

KEEN Venice H2 Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 30, 2007

I chose the Venice sandal over the Newport because of increased ventilation. They are very comfortable to walk in-excellent cushioning. It did take a bit to get used to the neoprene lining but now I don't notice it anymore. Only complaint is that the cord lock isn't very tight so after walking in them a while the cord loosens and must be re-tightened.

CamelBak Ergo Hydrolock

CamelBak Ergo Hydrolock

Rating for this product: 5 August 29, 2006

After squishing my CamelBak hose and getting my pack wet I decided to purchase the ergo hydrolock to avoid leakage again while traveling with my pack and losing much needed water. It is supper easy to work and the design places the mouthpiece in a much better position for drinking. Highly recommend!

Excellent pants

The North Face Meridian Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Meridian Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 23, 2005

These lightweight pants are perfect for hiking in cool weather. I love having all the pockets to put stuff in and I especially love the ability to roll the cuffs up to the calf. Having the ability to wear shorts when the weather gets warm is a big plus. I am 5'10" and the length is perfect for boots. They are not short like most regular size pants I find that come to the ankles. Perfect!

Nice Poles

Masters 5.11 Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Masters 5.11 Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Rating for this product: 4 July 19, 2005

Nice poles for the price. The grip is comfortable and the anti-shock is a nice addition. The poles collapse down to a reasonable size and the weight isn't half bad. The added wristbands are nice, and the interchangeable baskets are a nice feature. Definitely recommend.

Great fleece!

Marmot Ember Sweater - Women's

Marmot Ember Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 2, 2005

I got this jacket after purchasing the Tamarack jacket as an insulating layer for colder weather. I have yet to wear the two together, but alone, it is one warm fleece. I especially like the feminine fit - it is very flattering. I also like that the shoulder seams drop down past the shoulder so there is no chaffing due to constricting fit when wearing layers and carrying a backpack. Highly recommend!

Great jacket

Marmot Tamarack Jacket - Women's

Marmot Tamarack Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 31, 2005

I love this jacket! The weight is just right and there are so many pockets. I like the powder skirt to block out snow and wind. The hood is by far the best adjustable (and removable) hood I have come across to block out wind and rain. The feminine fit is nice and comfortable too. Highly recommend!!!
