Black Diamond Guide Glove - Men's

Black Diamond Guide Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2012

I can't move in these gloves unless it is well bellow freezing, which is why I bought them. They are incredibly warm on me and usually get put on if I am going to be static for a long time. If I have to do any strenous work in these, I take them off and stow them. I really can't complain about them, I knew what they did and I bought them for that reason.

Nice light pack

Black Diamond Speed 30 Backpack - 1700-1950cu in

Black Diamond Speed 30 Backpack - 1700-1950cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2012

I have the mission 75 and it is an awesome pack, but too big for my needs at times. I bought this pack to make myself pack less crap that I don't need. The Speed 30 is supper light, moves with you and is very comfortable loaded. The only thing I don't like about the pack is the roll top closure. That is a very minor thing for me though. Highly recommend this pack.

Great running gloves

Black Diamond MidWeight Glove Liner

Black Diamond MidWeight Glove Liner

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2012

I have worn these since October of 2010 as my cold weather running gloves and also as my hiking gloves. I get sweaty hands pretty easily so I needed something that was going to be warm enough to keep my hands from freezing on a long run, but also not over heat them. These do an excellent job of doing both. They conform to my hand great so there is no baggyness flopping around, they also fit well under a shell but will stay put on your hand if you go to take your outer glove off (which could be a good thing, I like it.) I have worn them hiking in the snow a few times and they kept my hands pretty warm even when I had an ice axe in my hand or was using trekking poles. When they got wet, all I did was wring them out and put them in my pocket to dry out or at least warm up a bit. When I pulled them out I was surprised that they were almost dry. The gloves wash well which is nice especially after wiping snot off of my face after running or hiking all day! I haven't dried them yet though, usually just set them on top of the dryer. I will be buying two more pairs as back ups!

Awesome stove

MSR DragonFly Stove

MSR DragonFly Stove

Rating for this product: 5 November 24, 2011

I love my dragonfly! It is a bit noisy at full open, but I wouldn't say that you can't carry on a conversation over it. Getting it started is simple, just make sure you practice with it at home before taking it out. The flame adjust ability is super nice, gives you the ability to open her up and melt a ton of snow or turn it down and cook some eggs. The flame is nice and evenly dispersed, to melt snow I use a 4 liter aluminum pot when my wife and I go out or a backcountry.com 1650ml Ti cookset for when I am by myself. To cook bacon and such, I have used a 10" lodge cast iron skillet (Still looking for a nice light weight skillet). The stove had no issue holding the weight of the cast iron. I highly recommend this stove and will probably pick up another soon.

Marmot Scree Softshell Pant - Men's

November 23, 2011

I am 5'11", 205lbs with a 36" waist. In normal pants I usually go with a 36x34. In the Scree's I went XL Short. They fit perfect for me, not a lot of material bunched up around my ankles and feet to pick up snow and other stuff.

Light and indestructible.

Backcountry.com Titanium Cookset - 1650ml

Backcountry.com Titanium Cookset - 1650ml

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2011

Great solo piece! I use mine with an MSR dragonfly and love it. I might remove the handle on the lid, it is a PITA to get to snap back once you fold it out. I liked the one I got off of SAC so much that I bought a second one. The bottom will discolor a bit and also warp a little, but nothing major. I also picked up two of the BC.com Ti sporks which fit nicely inside the pots and are insanely light.

Nice pack

Black Diamond Mission 75 Backpack - 4455-4699cu in

Black Diamond Mission 75 Backpack - 4455-4699cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 22, 2011

I went up Mt Adams with an Army issue ALICE pack... I will NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! As soon as I got home I went online and ordered the Mission 75. It is super light which is a strong point and also a weak point. The lightweightness of it comes at a price. Some of the seams on mine are starting to stretch a bit. There is a cinch cord that closes off the top that has a metal grommet to protect the hole that the cinch cord comes out of. I guess I man handled it because tightening the cord down, I almost pulled the grommet out. Other than that, the ice tool attachment is pretty slick and the welded crampon patch is very nice. It will easily carry 50+ lbs and the shoulder straps are super comfortable.

Not much to say

Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe

Black Diamond Raven Ice Axe

Rating for this product: 4 November 22, 2011

Not much to say about it, it works! Not the lightest but not the heaviest either. I made a leash out of some 1" tubular nylon and am pretty happy with it.

Great Summer boot

Scarpa Triolet Pro GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2011

Great boot. I have a wide foot, the La Sportiva Trango's smashed my toes together but these give me plenty of room for my toes. They are a good boot for me in the summer as my feet sweat a lot! I went up Mt Adams in July and never had a problem with my feet overheating even after a long day of kicking steps. I also went up to Camp Muir on Rainier in October and though I wouldn't recommend taking them to the summit, I just wore some quality wool socks to keep my feet warm and was okay for a day hike.

I wore Black Diamond Contact Strap on crampons on them and the fit was good but after trying on the Sabertooth clip's, I'll be upgrading.

The only complaint I have about the boot is the insole, you'd think a boot that costs as much as they do would have a better insole in them!
