Aire Lynx I Inflatable Kayak

October 21, 2009

This would be a good boat for you (Aire Lynx 1). It is a little expensive, but it's very well made. Other boats will either be lighter and less durable, or heavier and less maneuverable. The only consideration is that you may want a tandem if you want to carry a lot of gear or sometimes paddle with another person. The boat doesn't come with thigh straps or foot braces, but I recommend both. It's easy to add the foot pegs, it already has reinforcements and spots marked for the bolts.

Best. Pad. Ever.

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2009

I've been very happy with this pad, used it in warm (65 at night) and cold (25 at night) and always been comfortable. A big adavantage is that I can deflate it a little after lying down on it and it can smooth out bumps and even some slant to the ground you're lying on. I'm fairly sensitive to sleeping on a slant and this pad has helped a lot. I'd absolutely recommend it.

Excellent 2-person tent

Mountain Hardwear Light Wedge 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season DO NOT USE

Mountain Hardwear Light Wedge 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 4 May 29, 2009

I have an older version of this tent, but the design has only gotten better. It's a strong, fairly roomy tent that has held up to wind, rain and even some snow. The vestibule isn't huge, but there's room for your packs. I especially like the gear shelf at the front of the tent, it gives you quite a bit of out of the way storage. Unfortunately, it does create sort of a flat spot on the tent roof, which can pool some water or snow. It's never been a problem for me, but in a heavy storm you may want to push that area up every now and then to clear it out. All in all, it's a great variation on a classic design that I wouldn't hesitate to take anywhere.
