great compass

Highgear Trail Pilot 2 Compass

Highgear Trail Pilot 2 Compass

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2006

The compass worked perfectly on a recent trip into the Adirondacks high peaks wilderness - with it clipped to my shoulder strap, i could glance down and know exactly what direction I’m headed. My only gripe is that it's made of plastic - I worry about its durability. I'd give it five stars if it was made of metal, with the ability to lock the arm closed.

Platypus

Platypus Platy Bottle DO NOT USE

Platypus Platy Bottle DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 May 23, 2006

I bought the 2L version, to carry extra water in when I go through dry areas or cross a ridgeline w/ less water access. The Platy bottle works great for storage, the cap is nice and secure. In camp, it stands up by itself, so I can use it for cooking or keeping water nearby for midnight thirst. It doesn't leave any taste in the water.

short means short!

Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2006

I can sleep on just about anything, but this is definitely one of the most comfortable sleeping mats I’ve ever used - the eggshell carton makes it cushiony, and you don't slip around, making squeaky noises. I’m a 5'6 woman, though, so when the guy offered to sell me the "short" I figured it'd be about my height, since a long would be for a grown man, right? My feet hang off the end of it about a foot (no pun intended). If you like full coverage, make sure you try this one on for size.
