The earth is full of such wondrous things. And I want to see them all, or at least as many as possible. The best way to do this? Ski, backpack, bike, canoe...go places you cannot with a car. Places without roads and gas stations. Then, explore and witness the awesome place our world is!

Elizabeth Alexson's Winter
Created March 9, 2011
All the things I need for an exciting winter. I like to stay busy in the winter, which gets pretty intense here in Northern Wisconsin, so it's important to have great gear.

Mountain Hardwear Kanza 55 Backpack - 3350cu in
January 8, 2012
I have a 48L pack. I usually strap the poles to the outside (inside my rolled up sleeping pad). Hopefully you have a lightweight tent and sleeping pad. Also dry bags not only keep your clothes dry, but work really well to compress your gear.

No, there is only one Backcountry store in Salt Lake City. However, Birkenstocks can usually be found at your local shoe store.

Marmot Trestles 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Spirafil
November 30, 2011
I have a friend who sleeps in his trestles bag every night (kind of weird, I know) and the bag is still in good condition. It is extremely durable. The insulation stays put and the shell hold up nice.

Patagonia Torrentshell Trench Coat - Women's
September 2, 2011
Yes. Go small. Patagonia runs a little big so you'll have plenty of room for layers. I'm about the same size and my small is perfect.

Osprey Packs Kestrel 28 Backpack - 1600-1700cu in
August 15, 2011
The bag comes with a rain cover for a quick and easy solution to rain. I haven't had any problems with my Kestral 48, then again I've only experienced more steady rain. Dry bags always help though!

Chaco Z/2 Unaweep Sandal - Women's
August 13, 2011
I can't give you specifics widths, but with my experience with Chacos, they run pretty narrow. My friend (she has slightly wide feet, but pretty average) has a pair of wides and they fit me well. I would try exchanging for a wide. Or if you are unsure and you have a shoe store around you, go and get your foot professionally fitted. They will know what size you should get and it will make buying shoes online easier.

Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket - Men's
August 13, 2011
Two of my guy friends and I have the Torrentshell. One friend is about 6' and 175lbs with a medium, the other is 5'8'' with 215lbs with a large. You could get away with a small and have plenty of room for layers underneath. Patagonia generally runs big in all of their clothes.

Salomon Vitane 8 Skate Boots - Women's
March 9, 2011
Go with the UK 5.5. I wear between a 6.5 and a 7 US woman's shoe. My Salomon boots (SLab skates) are UK 5.5, and they fit well with thin to medium socks, but are a bit tight with thick wool socks.
