The North Face Mountain Biker Lumbar - 365cu in

March 25, 2011

Calling it a day. Used daily. Today carried cattle medicine, syringes, first-aid kit, compass, knife, two-way radio, cell phone, headlamp, lunch, chap stick, binoculars, and still had a little room. On horse, 4-wheeler, mountain bike, skis, or on foot this is a handy side kick.

Vasque Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

Vasque Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 2, 2012

If you don't like these boots..then you don't like boots. Full time rancher and adventurer. Work and play in the outdoors 365 days out of the year. Ride horses, 4 wheelers, ship, receive, and process cattle (cowboy work), load and unload livestock trucks, am in mud, water, and cow S*$t daily... not to mention the bulls*@t.
If I am in these boots at years end they deserve "BOOT OF THE YEAR" award.
Love what you do....do what you love.

Good fit...poor craftsmanship.

The North Face Vindicator Mid II GTX Boot - Men's

The North Face Vindicator Mid II GTX Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 March 6, 2012

Only had a few weeks but all is well. They fit better than any boot I have had to date. I use them daily for outdoor work. Ride a four wheeler daily in all types of weather. So for they have kept dry and cleaned up easily (mud, water, cow manure, etc). Comfortable on foot, in the saddle or on the quad. I am pretty tough on boots so more will be known by the end of the year.

UPDATE: Still fit well. However, after only 30 days in the field, that is the only positive thing I can say about them. The right side of the right boot has the sole tearing off. The left side of the left boot, up by the toe, has the rubber pulling apart from the boot. The shoe lace on left boot has ripped and the outer layer has pulled away from the core of the lace. I have bought North Face equipment for years and have always been happy with the purchases...I hope this is just a rare flaw. Maybe the gear isn't made for daily outdoor use...just occasional weekend use.
Anyway, I checked the label and unfortunately the are, like most products, made in China. Maybe they should step up the quality control over there or start making them in the U.S.A. I am sending them back today. Hopefully the return policy and/or warranty last longer than the boot.

Perfect for outdoor work.

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 6, 2012

So far so good. Bought a couple pair for work (and hopefully some play). They dry quick and are comfortable. Nice pockets. The inside of the waist has a comfortable material and they fit well. I am sure they will perform as well at play as they do at work. Ride a four wheeler at work almost daily and they are still comfortable after a 60-70 mile day on the quad. Enjoy.

Functional bag

Mountain Hardwear Extralamina 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Synthetic

Mountain Hardwear Extralamina 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2011

Used it in Southeastern Oregon and Northern California last week. Still cool and snow on the ground. The bag is very comfortable and warm. I am 6'2'' and the long bag works well. The stuff sack works well too. I can't give it 5 stars because I have not tried it down to 0 degree as it is rated. The gear description they give above is pretty accurate. Functional bag.

Brunton Restore Portable Power Pack

Brunton Restore Portable Power Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 2, 2011

Would recommend this item for anyone that travels or works in the outdoors. I pack it daily and use it at least 2-3 times per week. Great way to capture solar power. It charges quickly via the sun, a USB port, or a cigarette lighter. I usually can get two full charges to my G'z One Verizon phone. Definitely worth the money. Compact, durable, water-resistant, etc. Well built.

Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pak

Adventure Medical Pocket Survival Pak

Rating for this product: 4 March 18, 2011

Small enough to always have with you. Haven't had to use it, but it is always in the back pack or lumbar pack on any length trip. A little peace of mind. Small and light enough to justify caring it on any trip.

Good map case

SealLine Map Case

SealLine Map Case

Rating for this product: 4 March 18, 2011

I agree with other reviewers...the sizes are larger than you would think. Small does the job for me. The small is durable and easy to travel with. I like to use it for mountain biking, hiking, and Geo-caching. Great product for the money. Only negative was the zip lock. It was a little difficult to get shut quickly. Other than that good map case to purchase.

The North Face Mountain Biker Lumbar - 365cu in

The North Face Mountain Biker Lumbar - 365cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 18, 2011

This lumbar pack is GREAT! I use it for mountain biking, hiking, skiing, work (ranching in any and all weather), Geo-caching and much more. I am working or adventuring in the outdoors daily and typically, depending on the activity, I carry a first aid kit, binoculars, chap-stick, lighter, matches, portable power (Brunton Restore), cell phone, two way radio (in one of the water holsters), wallet, bug spray, knife, and can strap a light, water resistant shell on the top with the cross top straps. At work or play I need most of those items and with this pack I am able to carry them with comfort and access them with ease.

Brunton Solo Personal Power Plant

March 18, 2011

I got my answer from the folks at Brunton. They said the Solo is no longer being manufactured and it is not capable of charging newer phones. Best not to purchase this item and look at the Brunton Inspire, Freedom, or Restore. I returned the Solo and purchased the Restore.

Well built, durable lamp!

Black Diamond Titan Lantern

Black Diamond Titan Lantern

Rating for this product: 4 March 18, 2011

Nice lamp. Can compress down a few inches shorter for storage or traveling. The hang loop splits apart to allow easy hanging with durable hooks. Another nice feature is the dimming switch. Allows you to preserve battery life. All in all it is a really nice, durable camp lantern. Easy to pack and easy to use. Best features are the dual, split hanging loops, the dimmer option, and the ability to compress the lantern for travel.

All terrain light!

Black Diamond Storm Headlamp

Black Diamond Storm Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 March 13, 2011

For several years I used a Black Diamond Spot Headlamp. After years of abuse I reluctantly retired the cracked and scratched Spot. Though, it still works fine I broke down and bought a Storm headlamp. As with the Spot...I was not disappointed.
I am lucky enough to work and play in the outdoors...needless to say the headlamps get a tremendous amount of use. Between work, where we live, and adventuring this headlamp puts in the hours. Light in weight and heavy in durability, this light gets a beating and keeps on shinning.
All terrain, all mountain, all weather....any adventure! or, just reading a book in the bag at night! Enjoy!!!

Brunton Solo Personal Power Plant

March 13, 2011

I have a new Verizon G'z one "Ravine" phone. Although the Brunton Solo 3.4 comes with many other adapters, it does not come with an adapter to charge the G'z phone. Does anyone know if there is an adapter available to charge this phone? and if so, where could I buy this adapter?
Thank you!
