not at all, so long as they are broken in a bit. it also depends a bit on what you consider a "long approach". light weight mountaineering boots like these or the sportiva trango S evos are perfectly fine for 10-20 mile approaches no problem.

you are better off ordering both sizes and then sending one pair back. there is no way to know which size you are with the variance in sizing among manufacturers, and even with a manufacturers line. backcountry makes it very easy for you to do returns, and will sometimes send you a return label if you order multiple sizes by phone.

I own these. i don't feel they aid in recovery, they just aid in muscle support during workouts which may help a bit with fatigue. Does less muscle fatigue mean quicker recover? i guess so, but you will have to try for yourself. they are also very warm, so it needs to be about 48 or less to wear them outdoors during running. your best bet for faster recovery is to ingest a protein/carb blend sports during your workouts such as accelerade. i run trail races and triathlons, and protein sports drinks make massive difference in revovery for me.

this would be a great jacket under a backpack due to its minimalist design and ultralight fabric, however due to the minimalist design, it has just two pockets to reduce weight. it was really designed as shell jacket for backpackers. you might check out non-ultralite rain shells since they tend to have pit zips and more pockets. cheers

there is a difference in thickness. i use light for some shoes, and ultra light for tighter fitting shoes/more precise shoes. you can also increase cushioning by going to a normal thickness sock as opposed to ultralight assuming your shoe fit will allow it. generally if yuou need an ultralight sock you know it because you are trying to accomodate a specific shoe fit (like in a big wall trad/aid climbing shoe as an example).
also, sometimes mini or micro refer to the height of the sock on your ankle as opposed to thickness.. cheers

you have to try them on because of differences between face and nose shape, but when i tried them on, they were very light and seemed to stay put, but not as well as radars. i went with the radars for the big rubber nose piece and minimal weight, plus all lens, no frame.
for me, i liked the radars more and use them for all my trail running. even after 20-30k, i can't even feel them, and there is zero bouncing.

John, I'm also 6'1" and weigh 185 -33 waist. my dress shirt is 34/35 and i get away with a medium in the Venture. I could go to large, but the medium is a more tapered fit, and the arm length is fine, so i bet a large would be good on you. this is also a shell jacket like your Eddie Bauer, but it's not gore-tex, so it may not be as breathable as a true eVent or Gore shell. this jacket has pit zips which help a lot for venting. i'm able to wear mine over layers like a merino baselayer and a fleece mid layer no problem. cheers!

Richard, i own these pants as well as the 3/4 length and I sized mine so they fit very tight -the 3/4 are much better for ski boots. I don't think the tights themselves will aid in preventing injury, but if you wrap in addition, you might get the additional support you're looking for, and depending on how you wrap, you can probably wrap either under or over the tights. One warning, I find the tights very warm, so it would have to be pretty cold to comfortably wear these under ski pants in any temperature over about 25 degrees. Cheers, and good luck.

this bag is designed for a 20" wide rectangular pad. at this temp rating you need the insulated air core, not the regular air core, but even then the insulated air core is only rated to 15 degrees. you need to match the temp rating of the pad to the bag to get the most out of the system which leaves the two track pad if you're not willing to use the insulated air core on top of a foam pad as many people do...
if you're truly concerned about weight, you should consider a down bag in your temp rating. cheers http://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detail/Bag/Farwell

No way to say based on the info provided -some shoes are neutral, some are more guidance biased.. How much do you pronate, and what's your stride like? how much support do you need? how rocky and difficult is your terrain?
Take a look at the La Sportiva line, as well as the Brooks and Salomon lines. They all make shoes ranging from super light trail runners, to more supportive runners for less experienced feet and ankles. Consider footbeds for more stability and support. Spotiva/Salomon/Brooks all have great websites which can help you select a shoe.

Really tough question to answer because everybody's definition of "quite a bit" varies greatly. as with any filter, the best method of extending filter life is to seek the cleanest water available, and be careful of where your prefilter/intake hose rests. avoid it sitting on the bottom of silty water sources etc..

no. it will shed light rain, but it is not waterproof and will leak under sustained or heavy rain.

trail shoes are considered too stiff in the midsole, and too heavy for a pavement shoe. pavement shoes are more cushioned and designed with a focus towards use injuries, where trail shoes are designed with stiffness and support in mind. wear is also an issue with overly aggressive trail tread patterns. of course you can use trail shoes on pavement, but if you're running more than 10 miles a week on pavement alone, you probably want a pavement shoe in addition to your trail running shoes.

i have used it at 10,000 feet with no problem at all. we built a bit of a stone windbreak to help, but at 35 degrees, it worked perfectly.

i have the insulator expert, and i have to say, those things are REALLY warm. i wish i had the non insulated versions. i couldn't imagine skiing in them with a shell over the top unless it's literally well below zero AND you're sitting on ultra long/slow chairlifts. i use mine for trail running when it's in the 30s and 40s. (no additional layer/shell). good product

they fit and function with socks -they are basically a light hiker with sticky rubber. i suppose you could go barefoot, but sometimes an approach can be a multi hour hike, so socks are critical for wicking and blister prevention, not to mention eliminating bad smell.

you need a rain cover or at least a trash bag if you expect sustained rain on the pack. for light drizzle and very brief light showers, you can get away without a cover.

my sorels really packed in a lot, and fit much bigger than when i bought them -they also run a bit big to begin with too. i wear 10.5-11 in most shoes, and the sorel 10s worked well. so if you're a solid 7 or 7.5, i'd say buy the 7s. if you're 6.5-7, then that's tougher, and you might need to order two sizes to try on to make sure you get best fit. cheers.

just another perspective -i have the mummy, and thought it would be too narrow towards the tapered end. turns out, it hasn't been a problem at all thus far. i find it plenty wide enough, and i sleep both on my side, and my back throughout the night. i'm 6'1" and 175lbs and got the long. i prefer the slightly lighter weight and less bulk of the mummy pad.

condensation control to keep the fly off the tent when applicable. they are light, and go a long way in makeing sure there is an insulative layer even under hard winds or heavy snow.

I've used the Black Diamond Contact Strap crampons with a very similar Montrail boot -no problems, and great for very light mild alpine/glacier crossing. you wouldn't want a boot this light for anything much more technical than that though. YMMV cheers

think of it like a regular bed. you can cover your head or leave your head out depending on your preference.
most people wear a fleece beenie at night, so at these temps, it's not that cold that you're worring about drafts.
