Great for 11-14 year olds

Mountainsmith Pursuit Youth Backpack - 3173cu in

Mountainsmith Pursuit Youth Backpack - 3173cu in

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2011

I bought this for my boy scout at age 11, and he used it regularly until age 14, when he started to outgrow it. I'd say its good size for roughly 4'9" to 5'6" I had to teach him how to stuff his sleeping bag into the bottom compartment--it is a bit tight, but it was doable for him. The lower compartment exterior straps work great to strap on a thermarest or similar pad. It's been very durable for probably 8 nights of backpacking and another 30 nights of car camping--no breaks/tears/rips. Highly recommended if you have a mummy sleeping bag that stuffs relatively small (not good for roll-up car camping type of sleeping bags).

Good for pancakes while backpacking

GSI Outdoors Gourmet Backpack Kitchen - 8pc

GSI Outdoors Gourmet Backpack Kitchen - 8pc

Rating for this product: 4 February 2, 2011

I bought this for the foldable spatula. I like to do pancakes while backpacking, and the spatula fits the bill well. It's not super strong feeling, so I treat it with care. So far, so good. The Salt/pepper shaker seems heavy for its size, so I don't use it at all for backpacking. The other stuff in it--never used.

Great for base camp while backpacking

MSR Dromlite Bags

MSR Dromlite Bags

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2011

I usually backpack with folks who are not as avid backpackers as I am. I usually pump/filter this thing full and then hang it in camp (I tied a small piece of rope to the grommet for hanging). My camp mates love it, and I love it because I pump less often for others. So far I've had no holes or leaks, and I've probably used it for 10+ nights of backpacking.

Perfect!

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2011

For me, with my Big Agnes bag, this pad has been warm down to about 20 degF--after that, I can feel a bit of cold from the bottom. Super comfy and thick enough that I can get comfortable on my side (with my hips "sinking in"). Had a pin hole in it once from a thorn--was a bit of a hassle to find the hole (dunking it in the lake), but it sealed up easily with the included glue (no patch). Takes five minutes to blow up, but I'll trade that for the extra room in/om my pack compared to a thermarest type of pad. Great product.

Best bag ever!

Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag: 15-Degree Down

Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag: 15-Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2011

I've been camping and backpacking dozens of nights in this bag, and before I owned it, I'd been out hundreds of nights in other bags. This is my favorite by far. Less than 3 pounds and warm enough for 3 season use, but you have the roominess of a large rectangular bag. I can sleep in almost any position that I do at home in my bed (example: on side with knees up towards me). I am 6'0" and I have the long version. The regular version was just a bit too restrictive girth wise for me, but the long is perfect. Very durable--no issues at all with the zipper or fabric or anything like that. I also use the Big Agnes inflatable air pad, but I've also used this bag with a 20" wide thermarest in the pad sleeve. My wife has the Encampment (synthetic version of this one)--she loves that one too.

Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag: 15-Degree Down

February 2, 2011

With the insulated Air Core pad it's warm (down to about 20 degF), and I sleep in every position. I usually start with a lot of air, lay down, and then let out air to my liking. I keep it pretty soft, so that my hips "sink in" when on my side.
