Great Bag-But there is better

Marmot Helium Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Marmot Helium Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2012

when i bought this bag, i was honestly lookihnng at it thinking there is nothing wrong with this bag. and there isn't. however, i wasa going to either buy this bag or the Stoic Somnus 15 sleeping bag. I originally bought this bag because Backcountry and SToic did not put the fill weight on their site, so I did not know truly how warm it was. When I found out that the Somnus had only half of and ounce less thatn the Helium, I made the return. When comparing, there are a few reasons why. First of all, the Somnus weighs 2 ounces less. I weighed it and mine came in at actually 31 ounces, so that would be 3 ounces less. The second reason is because I bought it when it was at 40% off, so I saved at least 70$ ( the Helium was also on sale). gain, I loved the Helium, and it is a great bag, but if you count ounces and want to save money, buy the Stoic somnus 15. By the way, it has an ounce less, has a longer shoulder girth, but is I think 3 inches shorter, so I would say it is rated at about 18-22 degrees European Norm Lower Limit. Also, buy a separate stuff sack. The provided stuff sack weight about 4 ounces, so when you compare the weights of the Helium and the Somnus in their bags, they actually weigh the same. A Marmot XS Bag works great for the Somnus.

Stoic Somnus 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

April 10, 2012

I had the same problem with my Marmot Helium 15 bag. It says that there is a draft collar and there isn't. However, the face cinches down way tiny, so really, that could count as a draft collar. I don't have to worry about warm air escaping. It looks like this bag does the same thing, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Awesome Stove

Optimus Crux Stove

Rating for this product: 5 August 22, 2011

Just got this stove for 40$ at my local retailer, and i love it. I boiled 2 cups of water in 2 minutes 41 seconds, and I only used 6 grams of MSR IsoPro fuel! That means I can boil that much about 38 times before I need to buy another fuel canister! I then tried it again, and I boiled 2 cups of water in 1 minute 33 seconds, using 8g of fuel. I also boiled 1 Liter of water in 2 minutes 45 seconds, using 15 grams of fuel. I found the most efficient burn time for boiling 2 cups of water is 3 minutes 25 seconds. It has a wide burner head, and this thing burns a lot. Great stove, only downside is that the flame does burn out if it is breezy and you have it turned down, and that you do have to adjust the flame level if you are simmering. Definitely buy.

Awesome (Heavy) 3-Man Tent

Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 August 17, 2011

This tent is amazing. It has kept us dry time after time in a Uintah Mountain storm. For some reason, there was a little water on the floor, but that must have been brought inside by us. It is very heavy, though. I weighed it at 8 lbs 7.5 ounces total weight, and 9 lbs 6 oz with the footprint and 4 extra stakes. Packs pretty small, is roomy, and has a ton of vents. You can literally zip away the top and sides of the tent for hot nights, or close them for cold nights. This is also a super sturdy freestanding tent. Would give it 5 stars, but it is so heavy...

the jacket will definitely not be too hot unless you heat up way easy. although, you might be a bit cold with just a tee
