Quality but Pricey

Arc'teryx Rush Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Rush Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 22, 2012

I bought this for the recco reflector, which is in the top left arm pocket (in case you wondered), plus the powder skirt, which few shells come with. Its top quality - without question - and can be felt in the combo of fabrics they use in this jacket. Its my first Arc jacket, when compared to TNF, Stoic, Spyder or alternatives, I think the Stoic out rates it on features for half the cost!...

Stoic quality...

Stoic Bombshell Insulated Jacket - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 22, 2012

I own several of the stoic soft shells, so added this to the collection, but more for resort use...surprisingly tho, it runs smaller than the non insulated version, even when taking into consideration the need for just two layers with this, versus usual three layer combo for non insulated version...fits snuggly...the vintage colour scheme is wicked...plenty warm enough. Features on the stoic range, ie. gaiters, skirts, pocket combo, easy of snaps etc...is as good as it gets...great value for top quality product...

All Purpose 3-1 With Apex Fleece

The North Face Condor Triclimate Jacket - Men's

The North Face Condor Triclimate Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 22, 2012

Terrific shell, with added bonus of the Apex fleece...great combo. Its smaller than the other 3-1's i have from TNF, not sure why? Triumph green is great colour, close to what you see in the image onsite...the softshell liner sleeves run long when worn separately (no biggie)...overall TNH quality!

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2012

I just spent three days with this jacket in minus 7-15degrees celsius in Japan, in some phenomenal powder conditions. This jacket held up to everything it was put thru. the "ski jacket" features like wrist gaiters, pow skirt, oodles of pockets...make this a great option. I have the North Face Half Dome, which is gortex stretch, but i actually prefer this fabric. It handled tree skirmishes, unrelenting snow and windchill to minus 17...no issues. The fit is roomy, so can layer well underneath. With TNF apex bionic, an underarmour pull over and 1.0 thermal base layer, the jacket and combo was awesome. Three days isnt long enough to test for some of the product issues in other reviews, but from this session, it was a great - recommend highly,

would love wrist gaters but...

The North Face Vortex Triclimate Jacket - Men's

The North Face Vortex Triclimate Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 24, 2012

love the shell, and the fleece is actually the best part of this jacket. No issues other than wrist gaters would make this a 5. Used with TNF point five pant and clipped in...terrific combo. Fabric is plenty durable and handled variable conditions without every getting damp, or taking on moisture. Fit is "roomy", so if you dont intend to bulk up underneath, suggest getting one size down from usual. With the fleece and shell combo, thermal and a light t-shirt will be ample to handle pretty much all conditions... Usual TNF quality.

packs down and great warmth

The North Face Catalyst Down Jacket - Men's

The North Face Catalyst Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2012

compress this into its pocket, stuff in your pack, trek into the backcountry, pull out at lunch, shake, put on, stay warm, repack and ski fresh tracks...this is great for this exact purpose. Incredibly warm, light, squashable and the warmth is just what you need after a 3 hour morning trek ...recommend highly. Its also pretty good for every day use - it bounces back from being stuff down, great compression rebound...the 800 fill is plenty warm enough.

Superb boot...but

Scarpa Hurricane Pro Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Scarpa Hurricane Pro Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2012

After a complete season of 60plus days in these boots, i have to say they were excellent...BUT - the toe and heel lugs and the pebax compound whilst soft and incredibly light, is much softer than other boots. If the lugs were replaceable with soles, this wouldn't be a problem, but by the seasons end, this part of boot was so battered, chipped and dented the bindings needed constant attention to ensure retention tot he point were the boots are now likely to be thrown out.... If I were scarpa, i'd offer these boots with interchangeable lugs and soles, as the remainder of the boots are in great shape...take one star off...but overall terrific boot.

__________(Earlier review) __________

Just skied these for 19 days straight in Japan (on armada jj's with jester pro bindings), from groomers to side country to skinning thru the alps ...this boot fit like a glove. Custom footbeds but no other mods needed... I have a wide last foot, these didn't pinch or squash any digits! I would say if u have a high arch and top of the foot, these may cause pressure points. over the 19 days, these have stretched and formed to my foot and calf area brilliantly . The are great for touring (used on k2 coombacks with marker dukes) , so light and warm. You can't beat intuition liners..hands down the best by a mile...highly recommend. Flex is probably not as high as suggested, compared to nordica speed machines 130's , but way more pliable boot for all skiing needs.

Burly vest worth the $$$$

Canada Goose Freestyle Down Vest - Men's

Canada Goose Freestyle Down Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2012

I bought this and tnf nupse vest...this is the better for rugged days due to the fabric, but tnf jacket is my preferred everyday vest. The Canada goose vest is everything you expect..purpose built and bulletproof construction. Sizing is a little smaller than tnf equivalent. The cg jacket has multiple pockets which is really handy...worth the cash.

Brilliant shel

The North Face Half Dome Jacket - Men's

The North Face Half Dome Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2012

This is a great jacket...of all the shells I have this is by far the most user friendly. The stretch tho minimal can be felt when really pushing it. I would say the sizing is probably one larger or roomier than same brand shells I own, but doesn't get in the way, and when layered appropriately does a great job stopping all the elements .worth adding to your backcountry pack ...

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 2, 2011

this under the lockoff shell ..you are bomb proof. decent overlap on the cuff, so fitting both lockoff & apex, lets your tighten the cuff on the apex to seal out the elements, double seal with the lockoff...good solid comb if not going the existing 3-1 range...

Big but Worth it

Zeal Transcend SPPX Goggle - Polarized Photochromic

Zeal Transcend SPPX Goggle - Polarized Photochromic

Rating for this product: 4 December 1, 2011

Bought these for skiing in Japan, where it can be crystal clear, then white out the next...transition lense is excellent. They don't immediately change to the light situation, but adjust quickly enough to save carrying a spare set of goggles or glasses. They are big, so if you have a small head, they might consume your face. The bridge across the nose takes time to mould to your face, but persist with several times wearing them and they are worth every cent. The field of view is unmatched from goggles of used previously. The tech side - agree that the positioning of the heads up display takes a little getting use to, but after a while u train your eyes. The data it collects is terrific for back country stuff, especially finding those killer trails and lines that aren't to be found on any normal map - and of course, then bragging to your friends where you've been. So for that the GPS tracking is awesome. The controls on the goggle themselves are easy to use with gloves or liners on, its pretty intuitive. These aren't a gimmick, they are great kit...add to your bag.
