Stomping Grounds:
Dahlonega, Georgia -
Bio:
The mountains are my home.
The thought of a twenty mile run on the appalachain trail makes me smile. The thought of another AT thru-hike makes my heart race...!!
I am currently living in north Georgia training for my next challenge... a 60 day unsupported thru-hike of the appalachain trail. I have thru-hiked the AT three times so far and am looking forward to many more. You can learn more about me and my next challenge at www.natureboyhiking.com
I ran the Pinhoti 100 for my first ultra event, and now i am an addict..!! I have several more ultras lined up including Georgia's first 100 miler.
I am driven to find out how far my body and mind will go. How far past the line can I push. I am always looking for my next challlenge.

Willy Syndram's Sled 2 million vertical feet in one year
Created February 9, 2011
In honor of Greg Hill I am throwing down a new gauntlet....sled 2 million vertical feet in one year...
Sled riding is not in the Olympics, it is not a part of the X Games, it is not even listed as an offical sport. How can this be, how could such an extreme sport go unrecognized for so long. Today is the day for change, today is the day people start to notice. Gone is the day of your Daddy's Toboggan sled, todays sleds are titanium, finely crafted works of art, built for one purpose and one purpose alone....speed, suck your eyeballs into your skull speed..!!!!
One person can inspire....
One person and a sled can change the world.....
The time for change is upon us- Helpful Votes: 2 Yes |

Willy Syndram's To finish the Sundae Summit Challenge
Created February 9, 2011
The Sundae Summit Challenge is the final challenge of the Appalachian Trail.
For north bounders, standing atop of Mt Katahdin, signifies the end of the Appalachian Trail, they have just hiked the 2,181 miles, overcome countless obsticles, survived the swarms of blood sucking black flies, and still they smile....they smile because they have completed their journey.....almost.
At the Appalachian Trail Cafe the final challenge awaits them.....The Sundae Summit Challenge..!!! The Sundae Summit Challenge starts off with 14 scoops of ice cream (1 for every state you have hiked through), 1 banana sliced in half, a king size snickers bar (cut in pieces and buried in the ice cream), 1 bag of M&M's, some kind of pastery (could be a danish, a doughnut, or maybe a piece of pie), mounds of whip cream, sprinkles, and toped off with a cherry. If you are lucky Paul (Ole' Man) Renaud will personaly make it for you.
There is no time limit for eating the Sundae Sunnit Challenge, but there are a couple of rules.....once you begin you can not leave the cafe, you can not go into the bathroom, and you have to keep the Sundae Summit Challenge down for at least 20 minutes. It sounds simple, but few have succeded, and for those lucky few a life of fame and glory awaits..!!
Do you have what it takes..?? Can you eat a 5 pound sundae..??
If so you need to go to Millinocket, ME and try the challenge..- Helpful Votes: 3 Yes |

Check out the sizing chart, but it looks like all backcountry has in stock right now is XL/regular.

Hey Kyle,
The standard carry on luggage size restrictions are...
U.S. - Most U.S. domestic, non commuter airlines 22"x14"x9". Many allow a second smaller item as well such as a tote, cosmetic bag, briefcase, etc.
International - 18"x14"x9" - This is a recommended carry-on size and will very from airline to airline.
That being stated, my friend used this same backpack when we traveled around the world. We had 26 flights and visited 8 diffrent countries. Only once was did he have to check his pack, and that was in San Fran. On smaller planes, when the overhead storage was limited, he was asked to check his pack at the gate and he was then able retrieve it as soon as the plane landed.

Nathan HPL #008 Race Vest
February 13, 2011
hey pete,
Both vests are good, so it boils down to personal preference. If you are cocerened about running out of water go with the hpl 020, it holds a half liter more water and only adds .5 extra ounces to your weight. I personally don't go through alot of water when I train (I should consume more), but hydration and nutrition are what win ultras..
hope this helps,

The North Face Rock 22 Bx Tent: 2-Person 3-Season
February 9, 2011
**Weight: 5 lbs 4 oz(trail); 6 lbs 11 oz (total)**
To get to the 5 lbs 4 oz you need to leave all the extras that the tent comes with at home...such as bags for the tent, poles, and stakes, etc. You can save a little more weight by purchasing lighter stakes (titanium), and custom made poles. It all depends how much effort and money you want to spend to save a few ounces...
hope this helps

The North Face Rock 22 Bx Tent: 2-Person 3-Season
February 9, 2011
Hey Barbara,
The cover doesn't go all the way to the ground. It does go past where the bath tub floor starts, and as Dave mentioned the bath tub extends about 5 inches up. You can tighten down the fly with the straps but if you tighten them too much you can cause the tent poles to flex. There is suppose to be a small gap between the fly and the ground for ventilation so that the tent doesn't hold condensation.
hope this helps,
