Patagonia R1 Full-Zip Fleece Jacket - Men's

Patagonia R1 Full-Zip Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2011

I bought this because it was on sale, color is killer, and I wanted a nice lightweight fleece. The slim fit is great as other patagonia stuff is too boxy for my frame. I'm 6ft 160lb and wear a medium. It's a tad short length-wise but I can live with that because of the fit everywhere else. Anyway, there's rarely an occasion when I don't grab this guy. It's a great stand alone when there's a slight chill out or an equally great base layer for colder temps. Wrap a down sweater, rain shell, softshell, insulated softshell over this thing or any combo of those mentioned depending on temp and you're set. It's slick outer material makes it slide right into your shell no problem and never gets bunched up. One star short of a 5 star rating due to price- 140 is a LOT for 100wt fleece. If you can grab it on sale it's not as painful and your expeditions will be a lot more comfortable.

All about the Name

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 December 29, 2011

I don't really know how it happened, but this jacket has exploded all over college and even high school campuses. TNF makes good stuff, and the 300 weight polartec fleece seems promising. So I bought this for my girlfriend who was very excited, she had to have it...like girls want the purse with a big C on it. Despite her desire to sport the TNF, she was constantly chilled from the wind. I'm not talking about blow your hat off kind of wind, but the hardly makes a wind chime sound kind of wind. So it seems this is mostly an insulating, indoor or very light wind area kind of fleece. I got her a nice wool jacket for xmas and the denali has sat in the bottom of the hamper ever since.

If the name on your clothes takes precedent over your comfort, buy it. If you like being warm and laughing at the wind and it's pathetic attempt to chill you, don't buy it.

Stoic Luft Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

December 14, 2011

While I'm waiting for this to hopefully pop up on SAC again I'm wondering how well this holds up as an outer layer? It doesn't appear very lofty but with insulation a little can go along way. I'm planning on using this as a winter around town, holiday traveling, football game attending outer layer. Or is it best suited as mainly an insulating layer?

An E-specially nice jacket

Marmot E Line Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot E Line Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 11, 2011

Just a few words on this jacket-

Lightweight
Stylish (great colors, need to be seen in person to appreciate)
Comfy
Decently water/wind resistant

My go-to around town mild weather jacket, especially when the rain be fallin' which is a lot here in the PNW. Throw a mid layer underneath for a good colder weather combo.

Fit-wise: 6ft 16olb with a long torso and the medium is pushing it on arm and torso length. It's actually to small with any kind of layer underneath but I don't care. If the arms were longer I don't know how much I'd like that as the holes are large and there are no cuffs on them.

Warm, comfy and a killer fit

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 6, 2011

I have an extremely hard time finding jackets that fit me well. I'm 6ft 160lb and apparently have a long torso as no mediums are ever long enough. I'm right in between medium and large and since a sales rep told me that stoic are slim and long I went with the large. It has great length and the body is not bulky. The 3-D ergonomic fit is incredible, I can move my arms in the wildest ways with no tug or pull anywhere else. It is a little roomy in the gut area actually but it doesn't feel as though it is, very cool. Aside from the stellar fit this jacket is comfy as heck. The shell material is soft and the hi loft lining is even more so. This was a great combo to eliminate a Patagonia R2 and a light shell which didn't get much use alone, so now I've got them both essential in one jacket. I should also not that the hand pockets are fleece lined as well and keep your digits toasty warm. On top of all that it has style for days. Highly recommend this jacket!

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

December 6, 2011

The sleeves are indeed fleece lined as well. As for fit I don't know as I'm not familiar with you weight/height but I went with the larger of the two sizes that fit me and it fits great. It's long but doesn't feel like it is which I love.

Lofty Heaven

Patagonia R3 Hi-Loft Fleece Jacket - Men's

Patagonia R3 Hi-Loft Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 6, 2011

My main gripe with this fleece was going to be the regular fit. That WAS my only gripe because after exchanging for a size smaller it's regular fit is not too boxy at all. This fleece is obviously warm, something that can be assumed just by looking at it, but how quickly it warms you is insane. Literally a couple seconds after sliding your arm in you start to feel warmth. And the warmth in itself is interesting- you can sort of feel the heat coming off your body which is then trapped in the lofty goodness. That may be totally incorrect but you'll see what I'm talking about. AS has been said it's no match for the wind but then again it's not meant to stand up to it. Goes great under a shell and also pairs great with an R1 underneath for some serious warmth. It has that "wear it around the house" kind of comfort that I can't find in any regular fleece, especially the TNF denali. In short, I'm a stingy mofo and I don't regret dropping the cash on this one bit. Warmth, comfort, quality and even some style makes this a heck of a fleece

Now for some sizing reference-I'm 6ft 160lb and have a hard time finding stuff that fits well. The large had great length in the torso and arms but was way too roomy in the chest/gut area. After reading some reviews on here by people with a similar height and weight I went with the medium and it fits really well. I'd recommend going with the smaller size if you're in between like I am.
