Surf those wheat fields

Hippy Tree Wheat Trucker Hat

Hippy Tree Wheat Trucker Hat

Rating for this product: 5 May 18, 2012

Great trucker hat, Hippy Tree is a really sick California made brand - love the combo wheat/perfect-wave patch on top of corduroy. Perfect for a land-locked surfer like myself - just seeing waves everywhere. I've got a big head, my normal fitted size is 7 5/8ths, and I'm pretty much maxing out this trucker. Any bigger, and it wouldn't sit on my head. - Something to keep in mind.

Great Bag, Great Price

Stoic Vamp 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Stoic Vamp 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2012

This bag is baller. The pertex it's built with is far burlier than I expected, yet the bag maintains a nice light weight (not ultra-light, but light enough) the verticle baffles (new to this year's version of the vamp) keep the down in all the right places while you sleep. For the money, this cannot be beat. Its the perfect bag option for those looking to get the good warmth of down, without breaking the bank.

The good warmth

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 18, 2012

This is a classic piece. Just the right amount of down to keep it nice and toasty, but light enough to wear through the beginning of fall/spring. (I use it on most days except the coldest of winter). The DWR coating fights off moisture, and the polyester rip-stop keeps the wind at bay. Once you go down, you don't go back, its just a more 'cozy' warmth than similar synthetic insulated pieces. The one thing that does bug me a bit about the jacket (if i had to nit-pick) is the fit. It is just a little on the 'boxy' side for me. I'm not a small guy, I'm 5'10, 190lbs and the Large fits wide in the chest area (the jacket length, arm length, all that fits great) I'm a large in mostly every article of clothing, but this jacket just seems to fit on the wider side. I would suggest sizing down to achieve a more snug fit. The jacket will be warmer when snug, and will function as a great layering piece for those really cold days. Overall, really great, classy, lightweight 'shoulder season' jacket.

Stoic Merino Wool

Stoic Merino 200 Bottom - Men's

Stoic Merino 200 Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2012

Stoic merino will not let you down, its super comfortable, and very durable. I've tried on many of the higher-priced competitors products, and Stoic's line not only holds up, but actually fits better and feels more comfortable out of the box. Mine has been through several wash cycles, with very little signs of wear. This is a high quality, well constructed piece for layering. There's just something about being covered head to toe in merino...next-level winter warmth.

Built for Lumberjacks

Dakota Grizzly Woodsman Flannel Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Dakota Grizzly Woodsman Flannel Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2012

Great flannel. This is one of those burly shirts that inspires all sorts of manly outdoor activities. It basically asks you to chop some wood for the bonfire you singlehandedly created while guzzling down PBR. Is that a bear over there in the woods? Good thing you've got your trusty Dakota Grizzly Woodsman flannel on. In one swift move with that wood-chopping axe you're wielding, that bear quickly becomes the centerpiece hanging on the wall of your log cabin. [shirt not guaranteed to enhance bear-fighting/taxidermy skills. PBR on the other hand...]

The construction is bomber, thick cotton...making it durable and warm (warmer than your average flannel shirt). The cut is pretty big, I like my flannels a bit larger, so I got the XL...its a bit wider/bulkier than i would like (Large would have been perfect). So if you're thinking about sizing up, think twice.

Solid Water Bottle

Backcountry.com Backcountry.com Bamboo Bottle - The Original 17oz.

Backcountry.com Backcountry.com Bamboo Bottle - The Original 17oz.

Rating for this product: 4 January 4, 2012

I like this thing. I'm a huge fan of drinking water out of glass, (it just tastes better), and this unique design allows that to happen on the go. The glass is pretty heavy duty, making the total bottle (consisting of plastic top and bottom, glass bottle, and bamboo sleeve) not very ideal for backpacking/hiking. Its great for around the house, road trips (although the volume is a bit on the smaller side), and for the work desk. Super stylish, love the look and feel of the bamboo.

Great Design!

Black Diamond MesaTent: 2-Person 3-Season

Black Diamond MesaTent: 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 June 1, 2011

This tent is pretty fantastic. Its lightweight, SUPER easy to set up, and it vents really well. The single pole design is not only simple to set up, but is incredibly sturdy. I used it for a recent trip to Southern Utah, and while most other tents around were whipped around in the high winds, this puppy stayed stable. The only negative aspect of this tent is that some might find it a bit too "cozy" for 2 people with full gear.

Lightweight and Warm

Columbia Heat Elite Jacket - Men's

Columbia Heat Elite Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2011

I have to admit, I was a little wary of this jacket at first. The omni-heat liner technology (same kind of material that they use in delivery pizza boxes) seemed too gimicky to be functional in a technical outerwear application. After waking up one freezing-cold early AM morning with this Jacket, I was sold. The tech really works. The jacket is now my go-to cold-weather piece. It works both as a nice insulating midlayer and as a classicly styled outer jacket. The great thing is that it actually warms more effectively as you continue to wear it. It heats up. My only qualm is the fit seems a bit too wide. Overall, great lightweight WARM jacket.

Perfect Baselayer

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 17, 2011

This is my new go-to baselayer. As soon as payday hits again, I'll be picking up one more. The fit is great, athletic and long, enough to prevent it from riding up underneath all my other layers. I'm 5'10, 185, and the large fits perfectly. Thin, light, and warm, this baselayer performs as it claims. I can wear it days in a row as my baselayer at the slopes, with not a foul scent anywhere (though Stoic does suggest to wash often for best performance). I haven't had a chance to try this by itself, but I'm stoked about having the option to use this unusually stylish shirt as a lightweight hiking shirt.
