I live in Logan UT. I love being so close to the greatest places on earth. My dad always says that we are half way between Jackson and Moab. I love to kayak, ski, just got into a little bit of climbing, and i am an avid hiker. I love living in Utah with the greatest snow on earth. My home mountain is Beaver Mountain a great mom and pa resort with great runs and sick out of bound's terrain. I love to kayak. Especially in the Tetons and in Alaska. Being outside is what i love best and i couldn't have it any other way.

I have a friend who has the G3 alpinist skin with the twin tip connection kit and they work extremely well he got it in a 115 and just had to do a little trimming which isn't very hard on G3's for his opus's.

K2 Kung Fujas Ski

December 29, 2011

On my Fujas's i mounted my dukes at the 5 mark on the side wall. That means the lever to release the duke would line up with the 5. I have found it to be a great spot to mount it especially for touring.

K2 Kung Fujas Ski

November 28, 2011

Dylan,
This ski does ski a little shorter because of the rocker but not as much as bigger skis like the Obsethed. Your dimensions kinda put you right in the middle of the sizing. I would suggest getting the 179 and mounting it a little bit closer to the center at like a 4 or a 5 on the K2 sidewall chart. Mounting it more forward will make it easier to turn in the trees but still give you the length for the groomers.

Marker Griffon Ski Binding

Marker Griffon Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

When Marker said they were going to release a new line of freeskier binding they really went all out. This is an excellent binding that can handle anything from the park to the powder. This binding is extremely durable, plastic doesn't make a difference here it has hold up to every condition i have ever put it in. They release when they are suppost to. They are safe and overall built extremely well. People are going crazy over FKS's and Pivots which are excellent bindings but seriously save your cash and get the best binding for the money. They perform and hold up better than the rest.

Line Sir Francis Bacon Ski

November 16, 2011

The Opus is a very versatile ski. The Opus really handles different and variable snow conditions extremely well. The EP pro from the past couple of years was not a very snow versatile ski it was made for powder and powder only. This year it can ski just about anywhere. From a touring perspective i would get the bacon. This years bacon floats just as well as the last years. I mean we are only talking 7mm of middle waist lost on this years it handels the powder just fine. But with that 7mm lost it also handels the ice, hardpack and the crust snow a lot better. The Opus is more versatile than ever but not as versatile as the Bacon.

November 12, 2011

Alex, you have very legitimate reasons to be torn. I personally think the Bacon will be able to handel the ice, the tight trees and about anything you can throw at this ski. But if you still have worries i think the 98 would be a great choice. The 98 is built a little stiffer and will definitely handle the ice a little bit better. I use the K2 Kung Fujas as my touring ski and it has been a great touring ski because it handles the variable snow really well. So if I were you I would go with the Bacon but if your a little uneasy about it I would also recommend the 98, K2 kung Fujas or i also think the Volkl Gotama would also be a great fit for you. With the Length i would go with something shorter but no shorter than 176 ish. Longer skis will surprise you that there turning radius isn't much different, but back east you can get away with a little shorter ski.

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

November 9, 2011

With the rocker on the Chet i think you will find the 192 a lot shorter than you would think. Rocker shortens up how a ski turns in tight areas. There is only 1 M difference in its turn radius between the 183 and the 192. Which is one of the shortest i've seen on ski's 9 CM apart. I am not sure why the stiffness would be any different between the 183 and the 192 it may have something to do with the core design weather that intentional or not i'm not sure. The 192 will also give you more surface area which gives you more float especially with your size you are going to need all the float you can get to keep your skis from diving. 192 is the way too go.

Rossignol FKS 140 Ski Binding

November 7, 2011

The Griffon is an excellent binding, save your money and don't the jester unless you absolutely need a 16 din which to be honest no one really does. I think the Orange FKS would look sweet on those peacepipes. The FKS is a good binding that is really durable and with its swivel heel is suppose to cut down on knee injuries. The Look Pivot 14 is the exact same binding as this FKS so depending on the deal you get i would either get the Griffon or the FKS/Pivot

I would defiantly go with the Bacon if your looking for a good ski for the powder. The Bacon is wider, has more useful rocker for powder and for other types of snow. Its the better ski out of the two for sure. I would also look at a K2 Kung Fujas its a good compromise of the two skis.

Stevens Pass gets a lot of snow as you know. The Bacon has 6mm on the Fujas and more of a powder rocker. Both are excellent skis but i think the Bacon fits your mountain better than the Fujas.

All three of the skis you have mentioned are excellent skis. The Opus is a versatile powder ski but its wouldn't be very fun on the icy stuff or in the park. The Bacon is a great all around ski, The K2 Kung Fujas, Volkl Bridge, Atomic Access are also some skis I would consider. The 98 would handle the ice a lot better and would still be very fun all around the mountain. But I think the Bacon is probably the best out of the bunch for what you are looking to do.

K2 ObSETHed Ski

September 25, 2011

Its too bad theres no middle ground with this ski something like a 184 but my suggestion would to be with the 189. There is enough rocker on this that it will feel shorter than a true 189. Whenever i've skied something around 189 in powder I personally don't feel a huge difference in turning, on the hard pack im sure it will be a litte more difficult but I think the 189 will handle the long turns and the tight turns. In any size of this ski you will have to compromise a little.

From a more all mountain perspective the fujas is a awesome ski. If you looking for a all mountain park ski a Volkl Bridge is probably the best all mountain park ski hands down. Maybe even a Line Chronic if your looking for a more pure park feel. Possibly a Armada ARV would even fit the bill. But in my opinion the Bridge if exactly what your looking for.

Line Influence 105 Ski

September 12, 2011

I haven't skied the 105 but a early rise on a ski means there is less surface area touching the snow so your ski become's easier too turn as you can see with 18.6 M turning radius which i believe is about a meter or two shorter than the P100 so this ski would be a little bit easier to turn in tight spots.

This is a great all around ski for anywhere. It might be a little soft on icy crudy days back east so i would take @Andrew Duke Grewes advice and look at a Line Prophet 98 its going to be a little stiffer and help you out on the icy days. The Fujas is defiantly the best choice out of the three you have narrowed down.

K2 Pon2oon Ski

September 10, 2011

For a Pon2oon its going to depend on what you looking to do. Are you going to be using it as a touring ski? or just a normal downhill ski? Most people will most likely go for a touring set up. I would suggest a Diamir Freeride Pro or a Marker Duke same price but the Diamir is a little bit more serious touring and the Duke is a little more freeride oriented. For a cheaper option go for the Marker F 10 or 12. If your not looking for a touring setup i suggest a Marker Griffon or Jester. Make sure with any binding you get you will need to get a 130 MM brake. If anything take it in to a ski shop and they will give you all the help you need.

K2 Kung Fujas Ski

September 10, 2011

The Fujas is the best all around ski on the market right now. I don't know why you need Atomics. But if you HAVE to have Atomics I would suggest the Coax, 105 underfoot very versatile. Or the Theory which is made a little bit more for park snow but still 95 underfoot. Atomic is a good ski but I doubt it will be as good as this.

MSR WindPro Stove

MSR WindPro Stove

Rating for this product: 5 June 6, 2011

I have worked with many stoves over the years including the Whisperlite, Jet Boil's and the Dragon Fly. I have used these stoves tell they have worn out. With my WindPro i have climbed the Tetons, Chugach and the Canadian Rockies. I have Backpacked for weeks on end with the WindPro in Southern Utah, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming. Kayaked in Alaska for a week and this stove will not die. It won't give up. It has been in 60 mph blizzards and still cranked out heat. There is no fuel pump, no priming, no jamming, no fuel freezing in its bottle. No anual maintenance. It is simply attaching it to a pressurized fuel canister. It is so easy. When it is -20 with a 60 mph wind the last thing you want to do is take off your gloves to prime a stove. It wont quit working. It is full of sand after a week of southern utah and it still lights like a dream. I have been trying to break it so i can get a new one but it wont die. A true testament to the quality of MSR products. I would never get another stove. Never. Get a WindPro it is the best stove you will ever own.

Well obviously if your looking at it from a jibbing aspect the 172 looks like the better option. But i think were it's only 182 it would be just fine for you. At 182 you will get some more float and be able to charge the crud. Where Eric Pollard wants you to mount it is surprising close to the center. So with my 2011 Bacons i have had no problem spinning and jibbing with them.

Volkl Bridge Alpine Ski

January 5, 2011

Depends on how long you have been skiing and what you ski. With the dimensions you have given me 163 would be about right. The only reason i could see you going to a 171 is if you are a very good skier and can handle a 171. Thats the only reason i could see you going bigger than 163.

December 5, 2010

Depends on what you are used too. If you have skied 180 or longer in years past then i would go to 187. But if not i would go 179. I am 6'1 and if it were me i would go for the 179, It will be easier to control and more playful (depending on what type of stuff you will be skiing) But in this case it is all about preference.

It depends the type of skiing you will be doing with them and how much time you use them. I assume powder because they are powder skis. So i would think about getting a 189 for more surface area in powder but thats if you are good with riding a big ski but if you are a less aggressive powder skier i would get the 179 because of you height. Its all about preference. But with the dimensions you have given my about yourself i would go for the 179.

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

October 19, 2010

Osprey hands down, I absolute love the kode, i have owned dakine and the north face ski packs and nothing even gets close to the features and ease of use. I have owned deuter packs not ski packs and they are great packs. But the osprey is built extremely well it has a frame like you would find in a backpacking back pack wich helps you carry big skis or even a big lunch. I really think you will like the Osprey more than the Deuter.

I think the bacons are the better choice. The bacons are still very fat but they will do more than just ski pow then have a nice camber on them to ski groomers and catracks which your going to be using usually to get to the powder so i think the Bacons are a more versatile ski hence making them in my opinion the best ski to buy.
