Bio:

I live In Troy Mt at the northern end of the Cabinet Mountain wilderness, and the southern end of the Yaak river valley. This truly is the last best place. Hiking and back country camping/fishing are my passion.Weather it is Summer, Winter, Spring, or Fall I try to spend every second outdoors. Hunting, fishing, hiking, or just spending time in the wild places of my own backyard is an inspiration to me to live a better life and pass on to my children a yearning for solitude and a love for adventure. I live by the quote "Not all who wander are lost".

Sorel Conquest Boot - Men's

Have had a few trips out on the ice with these in northwest Mt. They are a little stiff at first and take some breaking in. Seemed to do well keeping the water out and fit my MSR Evo snowshoes well. My feet did get a lil cold after an hour if inactivity but warmed right back up as I hiked around. I treated my boots with Kiwi Mink oil and then with Camp Dry although this is not a must it seems to help protect them from rotting and they last longer. Over all a great boot that I would buy again. only 4 stars because the gaiters don't fit over my pants and I have to wear others to keep my legs dry.

sno-seal is not a must but I used Kiwi Mink oil on mine, I do this with all my "waterproof" boots and apparel. Camp dry works well also, the oil and silicone helps to protect boots from rot and they seem to last longer. hope this helps.

great snowshoe!

MSR Evo Ascent Snowshoe

just unboxed my MSR Evo Accents and gave them a good test run. We have about 12 to 14 inches of hard pack snow and about 3 inches of powder here in Northwest Montana. Took them on a eight mile trek over some very uneven ground and had to cross a lot of logs and brush. The snowshoes were almost a joy to wear and were like not wearing any at all the crampons made for excellent traction both on icy spots and going down steep grades. I never had to turn sideways and crab walk while going down just headed straight down and the traction did the rest. Hiking out I headed up a steep hillside and used the Televator heels and they worked excellent! All in all a very good snowshoe, it made for a great day of hiking. The only complaint I have is on the design of the bindings. They are very awkward to attach and and impossible to do so with a gloved hand, not something you'll be doing in a hurry. The bindings were also uncomfortable with the light boots I was wearing, I may have had them to tight, but I am to stubborn to stop and readjust them. Altogether I was impressed with the product and would recommend them to anyone from Beginner to expert. i can't wait till I can find some deep powder and try the extension tails.
