Adjuster clinches on hood

Adjuster clinches on hood

Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket - Men's

October 30, 2010

Just removing any doubt about whether you can clinch the hood down or not, as was questioned in an earlier review. Normally they sit under the flap just above them so it can appear as if spring adjusters aren't there.

Ultimate Keychain Accessory

Leatherman Micra Multi-Tool

Leatherman Micra Multi-Tool

Rating for this product: 5 May 16, 2011

The build quality on this thing is excellent, the scissors cut though cardboard and plastic packaging easily, and the knife is also super sharp. Some shortcomings: the nail file could be more aggressive, but on such as small tool its not that big of a deal; and the tweezers could be better. However, as previous reviews have said, you've always got this tool with you, and since it I hardly use the tweezers or nail file I find this tool very useful.

Great watch

Nixon Quatro Watch - Men's

Nixon Quatro Watch - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 16, 2011

This watch is really nice, especially at this price. I got the silver w/black face and the pictures above don't really do the watch justice (check the nixon site for better pics). The watch also is a good size, not to big or uncomfortable. The quality seems very good. It's just a sweet looking casual watch.

Ultimate Comfort

Sanuk Vagabond Shoe - Men's

Sanuk Vagabond Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 16, 2011

Wow, these sho.. I mean sandals are super comfortable, wear them heel up or down. Sanuks are great as a slipper for around the house, or when camping, and they are heaven for your feet after they have been in climbing shoes for a hour. Mine do seem to get a bit of stink when I wear them barefoot, but antibacterial shoe spray gets rid of the smell easy. The comfort of these sandals easily negates this negative. I usually wear a size 7.5, I bought the 8's and they fit really well bare foot, but with socks on and the heel up they are a little tight. They are still new though, so hopefully they will stretch a little.

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Men's

April 24, 2011

The materials used on both jackets are essentially the same - ripstop nylon, and both have Patagonia's 2.5-layer H2NO waterproof and breathable fabric, with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. Both have hoods that roll up to stow (no zip). The fit is also similar.

Advantages of the Rainshadow:
- Lighter by 2.3 ounces (65.2g)
- Has DWR centre zipper (as opposed to the Torrentshell's internal/external storm flaps)
- Internal fabric has a raised pattern to enhance breathability and durability

Advantages of Torrentshell
- Cheaper by $60
- Stows in one of its zippered pockets

Basically the Rainshadow is slightly more technical, while the Torrentshell is a more basic rain jacket. It basically comes down to if you are willing to pay $60 extra for DWR zips and 2 ounces while sacrificing the stow away ability of the Torrentshell.

Hope this helps :)

Fits its purpose

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 Footprint

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 Footprint

Rating for this product: 5 March 12, 2011

Adds an extra layer between you and the wet ground but also adds a bit of protection for the tent itself. The fast fly option (footprint, poles and fly) is another option for warmer weather and so long as the mosquitoes stay away. Nice and light and compact - it just slips into the tent bag.

Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

Rating for this product: 5 March 12, 2011

This is a great little light, its nice and bright for its size and the dimmer feature is good for saving battery, so small and compact, meaning you have no excuse to not take it hiking. It's perfect for inside a tent, especially smaller hiking tents.

This is a great hat, keeps your ears and face in the shade, is comfortable, and made of good material. A nice feature is the halo style tightening cord to keep the hat in place, and the chin cord which is removable.

Arc'teryx Aerios Daypack 14 - 854cu in

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Men's

October 25, 2010

I bought the Patagonia Torrentshell in the "fire' colour and it looked just like the bright red colour pictured on Backcountry.com not the darker red like pictured on Patagonia's website, so i'm pretty sure this jacket is the same colour. I don't know why the colour on Patagonia's website is darker that it should be.

Great Goggles

Oakley Wisdom Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 October 20, 2010

Had these goggles for a few years now, with persimmon lenses, and they work really well. The fit is good, and they also work well with the Bern Baker helmet I wear. The persimmon lenses are also good especially for increasing contrast in cloudy or lower light conditions; but they also work ok when it is sunny. Being able to switch lenses is an exceptional feature. These won't disappoint.

Solid protection and Style

Bern Baker Hard Hat Helmet w/Knit Liner DO NOT USE

Bern Baker Hard Hat Helmet w/Knit Liner DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 4 October 19, 2010

A good looking helmet. It offers good protection and is super toasty, because it has no vents, this can also make it too hot on warm days (the only issue i've had). This is the brock foam version so its not technically a 'helmet' but i've taken a few hard hits with no brain damage so its still a good helmet. The removable liner is also great and i've used it in the summer for skating as well.

Keeps you dry.

Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 19, 2010

As a cheaper and lighter water/windproof shell, it does exactly that, keeps you super dry. I also love how it packs down into it's own pocket and has a tightening cord around your head so it follows your head when you rotate it side to side. The only small problem so far is that the hood doesn't seem to reach quite far enough over my head and my forehead stays a little exposed. However it did keep the rest me 100% dry in a downpour. I'm 5"9', 165lbs and a medium fits perfect.

Yes backcountry.com does ship to Australia. As it says in the help section of this site, here's how to find out the shipping rates:
