Arc'teryx Ventii Jacket - Men's
December 8, 2011
Thank you brandon for the clarification. I now understand that this jacket is just for rich people who like overpriced jacket. This jacket seems top give insight into arcteryx's direction as a compary. Before this i would only expect something stupid from a compary like spider. I will stick to mammut who cuts their jackets well, doesn't overprice their garments , and has yet to move their manufacturing to china and uses the finest materials and doesnt try to tell everyone that proshell along with gore tex's fabrics are the best and breath just as well as event.

K2 Kung Fujas Ski
December 2, 2011
The Kung fujas doesn't really compare to the skis you listed mines the tst since its only 102 underfoot. If you like k2 check out the obsethed but since you already have prophet 90's they isn't really a point in getting a ski 12 mm's wider if you don't have a dedicated powder ski. Since the first three you listed have multiple sidecuts the length of the traditional sidecut is quite short. I highly recommend checking out the sir francais bacon if you like the turn radius of those skis or buying the opus or jj. I don't really know how deep the powder you will be skiing so if you are skiing 2 ft of powder or less usually up to 3 ft get a rockered 100ish mm waisted ski. If the powder is 3ft deep 110 is ideal. For 4 ft or more get a 120 to 130 mm waisted ski. It important to know that skis can be too wide. If your powder days only get too be 3 ft at the deepest the bacon would serve you well. If you will be finding 4ft of powder to ski at some point buy the opus.

I haven't been on both but i think I can help. The bbr has sort of mixed reviews associated with it but the bacon is consitantly thought of as an amazing ski. The bacons are certainly more powder oriented than the bbr and are a bit funner. The bacon seems like the way to go if you ski in vail. Ill be big enough for the deepest days but will be pretty awesome on hardpack for the rest of the year.

These aren't super stiff gnarly skis you should be fine. The only thing is as you advance you will want to ski faster so sizing is a little tricky. These are high quality skis so no worries. If you decide these are too wide get the k2 kung fujas.

You can do it. Fat skis aren't great for skiing bumps and depending on the size can be very scary. The jj's are probably one of the better fat skis for skiing bumps. You will get thrown around a bit or bounce around a lot but it will work.

The bacons are definately more versitile. I would not buy the opus as you probably will get quiver overlap. I would say the new bacons are stiffer than the opus and the new bacons float differently than the old. By this I mean the skis are completely different. The old bacons were better for jibbing but the new ones are slightly less floatier and are a bit more nimble and faster. I would definately go with the new bacons. The are extremely versitile. The float well Jib well carve well and tour quite decently in comparison to the old.

If you buy these go with seth's recommondation. If you want the playful ski these are fun but check out the bentchetler. The 'chets are funner and better for play since they are less directional have more tail rocker and I believe they are lighter. Both a fun skis you couldn't go wrong with either but the 'chets are some sick skis for play.

you may be more pleased on a more cambered ski. Check out the sentinel by salomon. The ski has pretty good flotation for the occasional east coast snow but will bea very stable on groomers and work well on ice. The bonifide is a great ski but you will be having more fun without the all the rocker and a stiffer, stabler platform.

You could remount them and see if it helps but this will decrease their re-sale value. I am assuming you are in the financial position to buy new skis since you say you go cat and heli skiing. That being said. Do not buy the s7 they are not very fun because they are so heavy. The 192 'chet would suit you needs well but if you don't need a ski for fast aggressive skiing look at the ak jj: very ninmble and fun ski. The bibby's are also a great ski but if you want playful, the ak jj or 192 bentchetler is a great place to look. If you want to save money remount but ebay is your best bet for playfulness.

you might have more control over the 169 and the lighter weight might make it more fun. The 179 will give you more stability but is not really necessary. You will be able to handle both sizes fine but Its really easier to have fun on a shorter ski.

Armada JJ Ski
November 24, 2011
Basically the jj's are more nimble and the bibby's are more stable. The JJ's are lighter weight but I find the bibby's better in variable snow. The jj leans more toward a lightweight ski and the bibby towards a freeride ski. I think the bibby might suit you needs better. The bibby and jj are both fun skis but keep in mind if you want to ski fast and agressively there are skis that handle higher speeds better.

The tips flop around a lot on groomers but after you get used of the flap, you wont notice it. They will hold an edge and handle speed well unless you take them on small bumps. Larger moguls work to just adjust your style for them.

Volkl Gotama Ski
October 3, 2011
I would say the shogun is better on groomers and is lighter weight. while i do love the gotama, the shogun really is a better all mountain ski. The shogun has a nice feel on groomers but the gotoma has gotten more pow oriented over the years. I'd check out the sidstash for another option. Remember generally, the further you move away from 100mm the ski tends to not perform as well on hardpack. The shogun is better edge to edge, lighter weight but which is better in pow? that can be debatable. You really cant go wrong with either ski but the shogun tends to be more fun and rail better on the packed.

Dynafit Stoke Ski
October 2, 2011
honestly these suck for anything but pow(my opinion). really these have rather poor duribility and i hate the bases. These definately are not stable and for steep ice? they will suck. You mentioned the sidestash, those rock and have far greater performance than these on anything. I'd check out the sidestash or hardside if I were you. You might not be able to cope with the stoke on steep icy decents. Check out the sidestash, coomback or hardside, you wont be dissapointed with those skis. In my book these are some of the worst skis out there, and kinda expensive for what you get too.

K2 Coomback Ski
October 2, 2011
The coomback is lighter weight, that being the only real advantage over the sidestash. The sidestash has metal but also has more rocker so the hardpack performace is fairly even between the two. The coomback is more for long ski tours, ski mountaineering and basically for the place the sidestash cannot easily get to. If you are skiing at a resort or just doing shorter tours, the way to go is unquestionably the sidestash.

The Chets are great but you may feel more comfortable on the jj or the bibby's if this is your everyday ski. The bibby is a really great ski that floats and carves well to. The Bibby's are stiffer and a little more versitle than the bentchetler. The bibby is more of a freeride ski then the chets but still pop and spin well plus they aren't as scarry on ice or skiing small bumps at super high speeds.

K2 HellBent Ski
September 29, 2011
Its a floatier ski but the float difference will not be as great between the old hellbent and the new. But i still would reccomend buying the old. In my experience a 122 waist ski is muck funner than a 130 waist ski in powder. The hellbent will give you a different powder experiece than the obsethed will. The hellbent is a much poppier play-fuller ski And since the bents have more tail rocker and a softer flex, they will give you a much more surfy, playful feeling than the obsethed. The extra money spent on buying the new bents really isn't worth it.

I don't know if you are looking for a powder specific ski, But these skis will work well in powder. If you want an all mountain ski that is a good powder ski, these are awesome. There are better hard pack skis that work as well in powder as the shogun but if you want twin tips these are probably the best option for an all mountain ski.

I'm looking for a big mountain ski For deepish snow up to 8". I like to ski ridiculously fast so i need a stiff ski That floats a little and stays stable also i want a ski that will go fast in powder. I rocked my Pontoons all mountain for all of last season and admittedly skiing icy high speed groomers could get scary so I will be using them for groomers as well. I am mainly concerned about powder performance and being able to go fast in powder. I'm thinking these or The legend 105's. Any other suggestions would be appreciated but i don't really wan't a ski waisted over 105 since I wont be using them for much resort, i would prefer a lighter weight ski.

The topsheet on the coomback isn't the same as the one on the sidestash. The coomback and all the lighter weight adventure series skis from k2 have the snowphobic topsheets which are really soft and not very durable. yes they are these are not a good ski for the east. they work great in the west and in Argentina. if you already have some other skis you can use everyday but these aren't a great east ski. you'll want something fat for the west or argentina but you won't be having much fun using these as and east coast everyday ski. crust yes, groomers yes, boiler plate ice no. they work but not well you may want to consider looking else where or by two pairs of skis. the sidestash would work well but the east and west are poler opposites so you'll need to pairs of skis to have fun in both places. I'd try and find some jj's somewere since you need a fat ski that can ski the east.
