They seem true to size. I tried one on at a local shop, before buying at BC. Notably, the fit will loosen slightly over time.

I just mounted the binding and heel shims on K2 Schi Devils. Could not be easier! The heel shim anti ice-plate screws went in beautifully. The binding anti-ice plate screw and nylock nut were another matter. These are not the same size and I had quite a mess getting this out. BC has not heard of this yet this year. Has anyone else encountered this? I am not sure why a locking nut is used in a part (anti-ice plate) that must be removed to access or replace ALL other parts of the binding.
I suggest removing the binding from the shim to expose the nut. Make sure the machine screw and nut are compatible. Otherwise looks like a solid binding for the wife.

They maintain most of there insulation value when wet, but they are not windproof and need a layer to cut the breeze. This is especially true when wet. Overall a super sweet under layer.

Who can afford this? I am an owner of Arcteryx gear and they make quality gear no doubt, but they are quickly becoming the brand of doughy execs and their snotty kids on day 2 of a 3 day season. The irony is that the few that could actually benefit from tech gear in extreme environs probably can't buck up. Amazing how the pioneers did so much with so little! Am I the only one?

I grew up using Ben's and Muskol 100% DEET in Bush Alaska. I have used this product with success in HI and mellow parts of the lower 48, but question the efficacy in the most infested regions. Can anyone attest with experience in the Bush or 100 mile woods etc?

Caleb, these are made with a 3 layer Gore-Tex Performance hard shell. I suppose this could work in extremely cold climes, but in my mind not the intended use. I could see myself easily overheating with all but the slowest paces in - 15 degree temps. You could vent with the side zips, but I think you would be better off with a wind proof soft shell for such a highly aerobic sport. For most of my winter XC tours and runs I wear a simple tight like Under Armour cold gear or a power stretch. Not for everybody. But, like all things you can make it work if you want to. Good luck!

Taz, I picked up a pair of Arcteryx Alpha SL for fastpacking and could not be happier with the purchase. They are super lightweight, durable and pack down to nearly nothing. At $200 you are paying a premium for a Paclite pant, but no regrets here.

I have the same waist size and often find my self between sizes. Arcteryx's size medium fits me like my jeans. I'd size up, especially with the bibs. I am 5'11" and the Large/Regular fits perfectly with room for extra layers.

Hey Kyle, I have had great luck with SmartWool socks and the Adrenaline series in particular. My running socks last about a year before I need to trash them. I usually buy 3 pairs at a time and rotate them through a 3-6 X per week training and racing cycle. It does seem steep, but in the end worth it. Check out the PhDs I am a recent convert and love 'em.

This is a great fastpacking shoe so hiking is a definite go! Traction is grippy on most surfaces. For me all new shoes have a bit of a learning curve in terms of how they perform. I learn to adjust my gait to the conditions and all is well. These provide zero ankle support. I have used them on short training sessions with a 40# (140%) pack, but will normally carry closer to 25# when I head out for real.

I am a recent convert. I have used the same Whisperlite for 20+ years and was looking to update my kit. I am stoked I made the leap. This stove out performs my old stove on all fronts! No performance issues at 14,000 and 30 degrees. Canisters are clean and easy to use. I was concerned about the waste, but most places have the capability to recycle these. Just drain them and puncture.

The cushioning has been described as "Spartan." Although, I find it adequate for the most part. My day-to-day running is through muddy, rocky, rooty rainforest with some roads mixed in. "Stingers" do get through on occasion. Try adding a stiff insole like Sole for added protection. These are a great combo I have enjoyed for years. Cheers!

I am not exactly sure what you are expecting. Sounds like a bunk pair to me. I have owned well over a dozen pairs of the Terroc 330s and have found some occasional inconsistency in quality, but for the most part have been very pleased. The main issue is that the outer layer of the outsole-knobbies (primarily the grey string down the middle) can peel over time. This has little effect on overall performance/traction for me. Give them a try and see if you like them.

The ingredient list on the upper right appears wheat-gluten free. However; it does contain malt extract (barley?), rolled oats and oat fiber. Possible offenders if Celiac's is your issue! Try Hammmer Nutrition bars for a gluten free treat. They are organic and mostly raw. Supah Tasty!

No worries, they will work fine. This will be a welcome addition especially if you are used to more shoe. I have used Sole inserts in mine for long distances on rough trails. This will also remedy the issue that many people have; that is the shoe digging into the lower portion of your ankle.

Just to confuse things abit . . . I am distinctly 10.5 via measurement and have owned a half dozen or so size 10. The 11s were waaaaay long for me, but this is with previous years models. Don't know about the 2009s. My wife also sizes down with the Moloka'i and generally up with other shoes. Good luck!

Simple, great tasting, and takes the guess-work out for most athletes. They also have the added benefit of calcium carbonate and magnesium sulfate with can prevent and even cure that gnarly acid/upset stomach many athletes get over long distances!

Montrails typically fit true to size. This may be illusory, but myself and a few friends have noticed inconsistency in sizing since the Columbia buyout (Chinese manufacturing?). I have had 2 pair feel like a half size smaller and thus returned for a replacement pair. The replacements were fine and felt true to size. In my opinion, Montrails are great for gnarly, long days requiring ALOT of shoe. No question they have their place!

Andy, I am not sure what you are used to, but I have been through the whites with Inov-8 Terroc 330s. The HR is substantially more shoe. For summer no worries. I have not used the Gore-Tex model, but imagine not so cold winter days would be okay. The HR will offer no appreciable insulative value! Traction is stellar in mud and wet, slippery surfaces. They are stable and will manage the rocks well. They are very capable of supporting daypack and even multiday pack weights.

Greg, you will do well to size up to a 12. The Roclite has the newer Inov-8 outsole with the "fascia-band" and these run small for everyone I know. Inov-8 has it pegged for neutral/supinators. Most people find the cushioning less than the average overbuilt trailrunner. Which is great! I wore Montrails for years and couldn't be happier or healthier with the switch. With Montrail I think alpine with Inov-8 I think tele . . .

I have a medium to wide foot and have been using these for ultras for about 5 years. If you find that you have difficulty fitting into most shoes than I would try the Hardrock Wide, otherwise the regular should work. This is basically the same shoe. The outsole and midsole are identical, thus they ride the same. As far as I can tell this is simply an update on styling. The main thing that I have noticed is less attention to detail after being bought out by the FAUXWEAR company Columbia. I am not sure if shoe sizes are mislabled or the sizing is random. I have worn an 11 for a few years and it seems that every other pair fits like a 10.5. I have had running friends and talked to others at races that have noticed the same. I suppose trying on each pair before purchase makes sense. I live in Hawaii, thus this is not an option for me. Good Luck!
