G3 Skin Savers

January 14, 2012

I need something to put my skins on to save them, and while in the backcountry the sheets I have now are 140mm like my skins, the issue is I have no room for error when putting them on. I was thinking about getting the BD Cheat Sheets at 170mm instead. What do you guys think?

Works Great!!!

G3 Twin Tip Connector Kit

G3 Twin Tip Connector Kit

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2012

These connectors work wonders. Easy to use, easy to adjust, and saves your top sheet. It was a bit hard to get the stock tail clips off of the skins, but other than that super easy to use.

I highly recommend these connectors.

Very Handy

DAKINE Stance Driver

DAKINE Stance Driver

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2012

This screwdriver is a perfect tool to have while traveling or just in your car. It has everything you need to make adjustments to skis and snowboards. Including stance width with the measuring tape. A bit big to fit in your pocket, but that's not what I bought it for. I took off a star because when you're loosening or tightening something sometimes the ratchet moves. But that's no big deal.

I highly recommend this tool.

Awesome execution.

MFD Alltime AT Binding

MFD Alltime AT Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 3, 2012

These might weigh a bit more than some of the other options out there, but they still tour amazing. I have these with look pivots and they are super smooth, and the extra bit of risers help out on the steeps a lot. The moving chop block in the back does help the ski flex more naturally too.

I highly recommend this plate for touring.

Great Binding!

Look Pivot 14 Ski Binding

Look Pivot 14 Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 January 3, 2012

This binding is awesome! I put these on my Mr. Pollard Opus and they work wonderfully. They hold you in when you need it the most. I haven't had to eject, but the release when you just come out of your skis is really smooth. That gives me confidence that they'll release just when you need them to and save your body. I also have these on the MFD Alltime plate and they tour really well too.

I highly recommend this binding.

Great Idea!

MFD Alltime AT Binding

MFD Alltime AT Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2011

This plate is a great invention. Being able to use Look Pivots for touring is wonderful. The plate has the highest setting (14 degrees) out of any other touring setup. And it really helps. The hinges are frictionless and being able to switch climbing bar with your pole baskets is a great convenience. Don't be weary of flex because there is none. The MFD is torsionaly strong and I had no problems with it.

I highly recommend the MFD Alltime for touring.

P.S. Marker fans they will make a plate for Marker bindings next year. I've seen a working prototype.

Good starter iron

Burton Hot Stick Iron

Burton Hot Stick Iron

Rating for this product: 4 December 28, 2011

Great iron for anyone who wants to get into diy ski tuning. Easy settings for cold, all, and warm temp waxes. Now that I've gotten better at tuning and know more about waxes I would like to get a more adjustable iron. It's also much wider than other irons which is nice for snowboards and fat skis.

Great for beginners and recreational tuners. Super easy to use.

I highly recommend this iron.

Osprey Packs Kode 22 Backpack - 1200-1400cu in

Osprey Packs Kode 22 Backpack - 1200-1400cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2011

This pack held all of my avy gear (bca tour shovel with probe, foldable saw) and my skins in the wet/avy pocket. In the dry pocket it held my bulky sweatshirt and food. holding skis or snowboard aren't a problem. It's very easy to put things on. Fat pow skis are a bit tricky to get through the loops for the A-Frame option, but they will fit, my Mr. Pollard Opus fit after some coaxing.

Great pack for small tours!
I highly recommend it!

Easy and Accurate!

G3 Trim Tool

G3 Trim Tool

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2011

Trimming my new Alpinist skins was unbelievably easy with the trimmer. It left enough space for the big edges of my pow skis, and cut through like warm butter.

I highly recommend this trimmer.

Grip, and Glide!

G3 Alpinist Climbing Skin

G3 Alpinist Climbing Skin

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2011

I took these out on my Line Opus and they worked great. They never slipped on the way up, and they glide beautifully on the flats, up hill, and even when hitting a small down hill section. They also glide better than the K2 skins. Trimming with the included trimmer is a cinch.

Great grip, amazing glide!
I highly recommend these skins.

Look Pivot 14 Ski Binding

December 19, 2011

I would choose the Jester over the Pivot. The Jester has a wider base that will give you more control over a wider ski.

Amazing!

YAKTRAX SkiTrax Boot Protection

YAKTRAX SkiTrax Boot Protection

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2011

I got these just to keep my boots from getting chewed up by the asphalt. Little did I know, they have rocker in them. SkiTrax allow for the most natural walking in ski boots possible. When walking with these I feel like the walk across the parking lots isn't so bad after all. They are a bit cumbersum, but they'll fit easily in a backpack or stuff them in your pockets.

Bottome line, great protection, and great walking.

I highly recommend these.

Genius!

Marker Griffon Schizo Ski Binding

Marker Griffon Schizo Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2011

I put these bindings on my Volkl Bridges and the setup rocks! These bindings are great. I haven't had any mechanical issues with them and I've had them since they first came out. I haven't had to have them release so I can't say how they are in that area. However, the to slider is supposed to help with all of that. They give great control, and it might only be 6cm of total travel, but it does a lot. Great in the park, awesome on the groomers and crud. Just keep them greased so they will move easier when you go to slide them. They also stay put when you want them to. No problems with them moving involuntary.

I highly recommend these for an all mountain ski. Great bindings.

Good glove, sizing is a bit off

Oakley Winter Assault Glove

Oakley Winter Assault Glove

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2011

I bought these gloves because I'm sick of normal pipe gloves being only water resistant. The Gore-Tex in these gloves keep your hands nice and dry with no problems. The carbon fiber knuckles look cool, but aren't exactly necessary in my opinion. These aren't insulated so don't plan on using them in cold weather because your fingers will get cold. But they aren't insulated so they aren't meant to keep your hands toasty on a freezing day. The reason I gave these 4 stars was because of the sizing. I have a pair of Black Diamond Troller gloves, Burton Gore Mitts, and Burton Pipe gloves all in XL and they were all too big. So I decided to size down. I got these in a large because I wanted a snug fit. It's so snug that I almost pull the liner inside-out when I take off the glove.

I highly recommend this as a PIPE glove that will keep water out.
Just remember SIZE UP!

Comfort like no other

Full Tilt Hot Dogger Ski Boot by Tom Wallisch - Men's

Full Tilt Hot Dogger Ski Boot by Tom Wallisch - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2011

I used to snowboard, and coming from such comfortable boots I had to find something that was at least close. I bought the Hot Dogger not because of its stunning good looks, but because it seemed like it would be the most comfortable. The intuition moldable liner is like a dense pillow surrounding your foot. I still get response from the boot, but in a different way than normal boots. Because of the flex you should size down a 1/2 to full size.

I usually wear a 9.5 shoe, I got this boot in an 8.5. Because when you lean forward your foot slides back into position. When they say no shin bang, they mean it. I would wear my Hot Doggers over my snowboard boots. That's saying something. Also, because of the design, your feet stay warmer than most other boots too. The only boots I've worn that come in comparison to these are the Dalbello Crypton Pro.

I highly recommend these boots, just remember to size down a bit.

Comfort, Size, and Looks

Backcountry.com Nebraska Softshell Hat

Backcountry.com Nebraska Softshell Hat

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2011

This hat has to be one of the most comfortable hats that I've ever worn. I decided to size up because I wanted a somewhat loose fit. I usually wear a 7 1/4 - 7 3/8 and I got a L/XL in this hat and it fits just how I want it. The hat is also quite good looking. Nothing to complain about here.

Great All Mountain Ski!

Volkl Bridge Alpine Ski

Volkl Bridge Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2011

I absolutely love my Bridges. I mounted them with some Marker Griffon Schizos and they rip! They ride the park, the groomers, the crud, the side stashes with ease. Not recommended for deep pow, but then again what all mountain ski is? (besides maybe the Line Blend). The ski carves nice and smooth, but also seems to be playful and snappy. My favorite ski I've ridden thus far.

Highly recommended as an all mountain park ski.

Do everything!

Marker Griffon Schizo Ski Binding

Marker Griffon Schizo Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2011

I mounted these on my Volkl Bridges and the combo is unbeatable. I can move them up and glide through the park(there is extra weight, but I'm not a heavy hitter so it doesn't really matter). I get to a groomer or some tracked pow and move them all the way back in a matter of a couple minutes. It is a bit of a pain to move them, but hey what other bindings do that?

Highly recommend these for an all mountain ski if you want to hit the park a little too.

Marker Griffon Schizo Ski Binding

December 8, 2011

Don't get this binding if your feet are still growing. I bought these and had them mounted to my old boots. Once I got my new boots the only way to keep them without remounting them was to keep them stationary and defeat the purpose of the entire binding. Needless to say I had to spend another 30 and get them remounted for my new boots.

Alright. Not the greatest.

Burton Pipe Glove - Men's

Burton Pipe Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 8, 2011

I got these because I keep ruining my expensive gloves and mittens in the park. They are great for grabs and holding up to things like that. However when they say "water-resistant" It means that you can touch solid ice and not have a problem. But because these gloves have no insulation the weather you use them in is warm. So the snow is soft and slushy. My hands always get cold within a couple of hours of use. If you ski they'd be great, but for snowboarding, not my favorite.

Great fit!

Smith Maze Helmet

Smith Maze Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2011

I love the fit of this helmet. It doesn't come down too far in the front, and it isn't big and bulky like the Giros that I've owned in the past. The ventilation is amazing, my head seems to be at perfect temperature in the spring heat and January bitter cold. The audio in the helmet is also a great plus. The goggle defog vents in the front aren't a gimik. They legitimately work.

Bottom line, my favorite helmet I've used so far.
I highly recommend it.

Absolutely Amazing!

Oakley Splice Goggle

Oakley Splice Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2011

I bought these goggles because I don't seem to have a very big head. So when ever I put goggles on with a helmet they felt like they were sliding down off my face. With the nose cut out being shaped the way it is I feel like there is nothing touching my nose. The field of vision is also great, better than the A Frames, and in my opinion as good or better than the crowbars. The clarity of the optics is also unmatched by any other brand. Fogging hasn't been a problem like it had been in the past with the A Frames I had previously owned.

I highly recommend these goggles to anyone.

Best Binding for the Money!

Burton Cartel EST Snowboard Binding

Burton Cartel EST Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2011

I had a previous model of the Burton P1s(still going strong) but when I bought my Jeremy Jones with the est system I decided to give these a try. Absolutely great bindings. The feel that you get is unbelievable. They still soak up vibrations and help out on a hard landing while still giving you the ultimate feel and control. Even Travis Rice uses the Cartel on his board. Awesome binding.

I highly recommend this.
