Great versatile Pant

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 9, 2011

Got these for climbing the spring and used them all summer for climbing and backpacking up in WI and absolutely oved them, they are durable and have a great fit I got a medium and I usually wear a 33" waist and a 34" inseam and they fit just perfect but i don't think they would fight al the way to a 35" waist like the chart says. The water repellent treatment has a good life between treatments and they look great.

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

November 9, 2011

I have the same bag and I grabbed a 20L but I also put my neo air in there is well so if you just want to put the bag in there the 15l would be perfect but you can't go wrong with the Large.

Cheap, Breakable

Light My Fire Serving Spork

Light My Fire Serving Spork

Rating for this product: 2 November 9, 2011

have had five different sporks and they have all broken in some fashion, either the fork tines break or they break right in the middle, they are brittle all the time and especially of it is cold, they are a cold design but a waste of money and i would not recommend buying one. Sick with an aluminum or ti spork. I now have a crkt eat'n tool and that is much mor compact and useful.

Great Fit

Mountain Hardwear Microgrid Fleece Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Microgrid Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 9, 2011

The fit is perfect for layering under a hard shell and with the stretch panels it moves well for all activities. Great all season jacket for backpacking, alpine climbing, and skiing. The large could be a little longer (6'2" average torso) but other wise no complaints. Another solid piece of over build gear from mountain hardwear!

Great Compression

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 4 November 9, 2011

Grabbed a 20l version for my sleeping bag and sleeping pad and its great for fitting in the sleeping bag compartment of my aether 85. It compresses really easily with the eVent panel on the bottom. Had one of the just dry sacks and had problems with durability so I've been carful to use this one in my tent and then put it straight in the pack and not leave it on the ground. Will up date review after a few more trips!

Great Size

Hydro Photon SteriPEN JourneyLCD

Hydro Photon SteriPEN JourneyLCD

Rating for this product: 4 November 9, 2011

This is a great solo water treatment option as it is small and works really fast with little effort, however using it for a group of more then 2 is time consuming as you have to wait between bottles 2 and 3 for about a minute before it will work again. All in all a great product and the pre filter is a great addition when filtering slow moving or lake water.

Good Filter

MSR MiniWorks Ex Water Filter

MSR MiniWorks Ex Water Filter

Rating for this product: 4 April 14, 2011

affordable way to reliably finter water, easy to clean on the go and nothing to fragile. I've used it on multi week trips and only cleaned it a couple of times. I love this filter. Its not the fastest filter but it gets the job done. I've had it for 6 or so years and i've only ever bought 4 new filters. the key is to boil it after every trip and to not over scrub the ceramic part of the filter, you just neet to take off a very thin layer.

Sea To Summit eVAC Dry Sack

Sea To Summit eVAC Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 3 March 19, 2011

The work really well as compression shacks and they are watertight all they way but after only a 4 day trip in the white mountains last week one of the sacks i bought was already starting to have a wear hole so i'm not sure how durable these are.

Not a fan

MSR Evo Ascent Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 2 March 19, 2011

I bought these to backpack through the white mountain in mid march adn they were worthless, crampons did a better job. they offer no float in power even with the 6 inch tails and the straps are unusable with gloves on and the rubber looses all its stretch in the sub zero temperatures. I would not recommend these for any mountaineering on well marked trails. Really disappointed with this poduct considering its made by MSR.

Mountain Hardwear Pinole 20 Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 March 19, 2011

I use this all season long, even in the white mountain of NH with nights down to -29 degrees, i just use a silk liner sack in the winter that ads 25 degrees on to the bag and its great, not the smallest or lightest bag but it gets the job done and for the money you can't beat it. i would recommend this to any person, works great even when damp from rain.

Great day hiking boot

Vasque Breeze GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Vasque Breeze GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 19, 2011

These boots served my well over the 6 months i've had them, they have done several backpacking trips in the fall and winter snow and they are surprisingly warm for such a breathable boot and the gore-tex lining works like a dream. The only thing is that they are just a little to flexible for the heavy expedition packing i do and i would say that they are more of a day hiking boot. I keep using these for day hicks but am switching to some thing with a stiffer sole for my long trips.

Great Winter and Summer Gaiter

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Men's

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 19, 2011

Bought these gaiters for a 5 day trip to the boundary waters in Minnesota and absolutely loved them. After a three mile trek through a swamp i was glad i had them as not a drop of water ended up in my boots. They even worked well when i was snowshoeing in the white mountains. my only comment is that if you are planing to use them with crampons you should invers the extra $20 in the expedition version as crampons will tear the upper nylon apart. Fit over my snow pants with ease and the under boot strap is more than sufficiently durable, after 6 months of heavy abuse there is no signs of failure anytime soon. All in all a great gaiter!

CAMP USA Stalker Crampon

CAMP USA Stalker Crampon

Rating for this product: 4 March 19, 2011

For the money they are great, worked as well as my friends petzel vasak, only they are not as easy to take on and off. they even fit my size 11.5 boots which is rare with out having to buy additional parts. i would recommend them to anyone doing their first mountaineering trip as they are a great value and fit a wide variety of boots. worked well on my trip to the white mountains in mid march. they feel sturdy and the bite is excellent. Great for first time mountaineers.

Best stove!

MSR WhisperLite Stove

Rating for this product: 5 March 19, 2011

Hands down the best stove for multi purpose camping. Works great in the winter and summer, boils fast and the best thing, it nover breaks. I bought one after i saw how awesome the one my parents had as a kid was. We had it for over 25 years and it's still going strong, never needed more than a simple seal replacement, the original pump even still works. Can not recommend this highly enough. If you are a weight-weenie, its not for you but if you are looking for a reliable stove look no further.

Warm Tent, Poor Construction

Mountain Hardwear Trango 3.1 Tent 3-Person 4-Season

Mountain Hardwear Trango 3.1 Tent 3-Person 4-Season

Rating for this product: 3 March 19, 2011

I took this to the white mountains this winter for a 5 day trek across the prezys and this tent didn't do so well. We had to set it up the first day in a rain storm so luckily the tent is siliconized nylon so it wasn't soaked but the rain did thoroughly soak most of the tent pieces, the rain then turned into a blizzard the next day and while knocking the snow off the tent with my glove i noticed several sizable rips in the fly of about 3-4 inches that much have occurred form the tent fabrique freezing and cracking. It still kept us warm the next three nights but i was sorely disappointed that after one night the fly had rips in it. I would not buy this tent again.

Not for Expeditions

Kelty Coyote Backpack - 4750cu in

Rating for this product: 3 March 19, 2011

I used this pack for a 3 week backpacking trip in on the superior hiking trail and it worked great when only loaded with 40lbs or less. I then took it on several more weekend and weeklong trips and it seemed fine aslong as you don't fill it full. However, this winter i did a 5 day trek over the presidential mountains in NH and it was not up to the task, it flounders under the expedition weight of 50lbs and the mesh hip and shoulder straps easily absorb water and then freeze stiff as a board. It also started to show sines of stitching fatigue on both the compression straps and the hip-belt attachment to the pack. All in all a great starter pack for around $150 but i now have an osprey aether 85 and am hoping that that is the last bag i ever have to buy.
