Outdoor Research Alti Mitten - Men's

Outdoor Research Alti Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2009

Recently climbed Aconcagua and was lucky to have great weather. On summit morning it was 7 degrees (F) above zero with a wind chill somewhere below that. My hands never got cold and as the sun came up and we reached the mid point of 21,000 ' I changed to my standard ski gloves. On Aconcagua though it is better to be safe than sorry. These are great Mittens and the folks at OR are great to work with.

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2009

Recently bought these as an outer shell for a climb up Aconcagua. They performed well in the wind, rain, snow and cold. Also just used them on a ski trip to Park City and they worked equally as well on the slopes. Full length side zippers would have been nice on the climb but didn't present a significant problem.

Patagonia Capilene 4 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Patagonia Capilene 4 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Recently climbed Aconcagua and bought this as a versatile inner layer to help handle the varied weather. We had very good weather overall and the zipper neck on this shirt handled everytning from snow, sleet, wind and rain to the gorgeous sun filled sky that we had on summit day. It also performed well after 16 days on the mountain in minimizing retained body odor.

Quality Questionable

Ex Officio Insect Shield Convertible Pant - Men's

Ex Officio Insect Shield Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 29, 2009

Recently climbed Aconcagua and settled for these pants as a versatile choice to help cope with the extreme changes in climate along the way. The thigh zippers worked well but one of the ankle zippers was separated mid way which meant I had to take off my boot every time I changed from pants to shorts and back. My bad for not noticing it before I left but it still was a pain.
