Kelty Lowdown Chair

best camp chair chair ever. doesn't matter if you are tall or short, something about the low legs makes it so comfy, easy to kick back and sink into. pretty much like a lazy boy. i have owned many different kinds of camp chairs in the past, and i swear by this one- everyone loves it.

The North Face Base Camp Sandal - Women's

The North Face Base Camp Sandal - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 9, 2012

These sandals are pretty durable. However, I have a high-profile foot and the straps were tight at first until I broke them in, but it was a pain in the butt at first. If you have a flat foot, these sandals will be comfy right off the bat.

Light but a bit small

The North Face Wayfinder Rolling Bag - 3785-5370cu in

The North Face Wayfinder Rolling Bag - 3785-5370cu in

Rating for this product: 4 February 9, 2012

Awesome rolling bag- it's lightweight, unlike a lot of roller bags out there, leaving the weight to whatever you want to pack, which is really handy when you're flying. Only complaint is that it is a bit small for leaving on big trips, it's more a medium sized bag.

Smith Brooklyn Sunglasses -Women's - Polarized

Smith Brooklyn Sunglasses -Women's - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2012

Hardy yet elegant, these glasses are a great! They have great coverage for active, outdoor stuff like biking or spring skiing, and they are durable. Couple that up with a classy, smoothed out boxy look and they pretty much kill it. Nice to support Evolve products as well- check out the Smith Evolve series if you haven't yet.

Smith Rosewood Sunglasses - Polarized

Smith Rosewood Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2012

These glasses look great on a small face- like custom aviators, with a better fit. I wear the Serpicos as well, but these are more suited for a small face and have a sharp look to em.

Good-lookin but fragile

Smith Swindler Sunglasses - Polarized

Smith Swindler Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 4 February 9, 2012

These glasses are super-stylie. I've got a small face and they still fit well for big glasses, but a lot of people with larger faces rock these as well. The only thing to keep in mind is that the arms have a tendency to break at the hinge-point, so they aren't your ultradurable shades- gotta take care of 'em.

Black Diamond QuickDraw Super Tour Probe 265

Black Diamond QuickDraw Super Tour Probe 265

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2012

This is a great everyday backcountry probe, it's what I keep for all my backcountry kits. It's obviously not as light as the carbon version, but still super reasonable, as well as quick and easy to assemble.

Woohoo!

The North Face Socializer Vest - Women's

The North Face Socializer Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 16, 2011

This vest is really cool- toasty sheep fleece on the inside, and waterproof shoulders- and super stylish. A great piece to have. The only thing I would advise is to go a size bigger if you plan on wearing it over any thin down coats, or if you plan on layering a bit underneath it. The arm holes are a touch small and it can feel restricted around the shoulder/pit/chest area if you layer like I do. If you wear it over minimal layers like just a base layer and a thin fleece, you will probably be alright. I am normally a small, size 4 or so, but a medium in this vest fits the best on me.

The North Face Annapurna 1/4 Zip Fleece Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

This is my favorite mid layer while I ski- I wear it over my base layer, and it wicks moisture well while always feeling dry and cozy. It's warm but doesn't ever feel bulky, and is nice and breathable and light.

The North Face Jakson Jacket - Women's

The North Face Jakson Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 16, 2011

Awesome coat. I have it in the blue and it is a gorgeous color- I wear it out pretty often. It's a great layer, with an insulated core while letting your pits and arms breathe- it's not too warm. That also makes it a good jacket for an outer layer while you work out on a cold day. However, the fleece lining on the interior of the arms is pretty grippy and the arms are slender, so I can only really fit one layer underneath comfortably.

Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles

Black Diamond Traverse Ski Poles

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

I love these poles for touring. I use the lower rubber grip all the time and they are super light. The strap has a slim profile and the length is easy to adust with the Fliplock, and I've never had the pole collapse (or the Fliplock fail) under pressure- it's pretty strong. A great pole for out of bounds.

Easy.

The North Face Base Camp Ski Roller Bag

The North Face Base Camp Ski Roller Bag

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

This bag is really durable, made from waterproof material. It's super easy to transport, its got buckled straps along it so you can cinch it down tight, and a firm base/bottom of the bag so when you wheel it around it doesnt bend in half or twist funny. Most good ski bags weight a bit in and of themselves though, and something to keep in mind is that the bag weighs 12 pounds- which means if you are flying, you only have 38 pounds of stuff to put in it.

Smith I/O Replacement Goggle Lens

Smith I/O Replacement Goggle Lens

Rating for this product: 5 November 16, 2011

The greatest part about the I/O goggles is how easy and fast it is to switch lenses. Smith makes a large variety of replacement lenses- and extra lenses don't take up any room. They are so nice to have if the light changes or you forgot to dry out the lenses that are in your goggles from yesterday and they start fogging up. My favorite lenses for low light are the red sensor mirrors, and for super sunny days any of the Sol-X are great. Most goggles come with the Ignitor mirror, which is a medium light/ allaround lens.

Smith I/O Replacement Goggle Lens

November 16, 2011

No, each goggle has it's own respective lens. When you buy replacement lenses, make sure you buy the right lens for the model of goggle you own. However, Smith does make a huge variety of replacement lenses for each model of goggle, so that won't be a concern.

The North Face Thatch Hooded Full-Zip Jacket - Women's

The North Face Thatch Hooded Full-Zip Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 November 12, 2011

This hoodie is super stylish and warm too. The material on the outside is smooth and wind/rain resistant, which is awesome if you don't want a full coat but want something with a little bit of a buffer. Its got a great collar you can burrow into and a zipper to give the entire neck area more expansion room. The sleeves are pretty long though- it wants to naturally wear around your hands, so I find myself automatically using the thumbholes in the cuffs. If thumbholes annoy you and you usually wear cuffs a little higher on your wrists, this hoodie might get a bit annoying.

The North Face Thunder Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2011

This is a really great coat for instant warmth and toastiness, or if you are going to be out and about on the town and want a warm jacket that doesnt feel to bulky. It packs small and is really light- the stowaway pocket is sweet. A flattering cut while still fitting over other layers and fleeces.

Glass lenses!!!!

Smith Aura Sunglasses - Polarized

Smith Aura Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 November 4, 2011

The frame is hip, on the verge of the '70s school-teacher horn-rimmed glasses look, but toned down a bit. I've got a small face and they fit well without looking too big, but the greatest part about these sunglasses is that the lenses are GLASS. Not plastic. I am really hard on my gear, and these babies don't have a single scratch, which is so awesome. Plus, polarized lenses are a must if you are around snow or water a bunch.

Great every-day pack

The North Face Chugach 16 Winter Backpack - 975cu in

The North Face Chugach 16 Winter Backpack - 975cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 4, 2011

This is my go-to inbounds pack. It is small but has just enough room, and the best part about it is the firm panel that fits right against your back- you can shove a ton of stuff in it without feeling bulges or being uncomfortable. The panel also allows for quick access to your gear, and there is a separate zipper compartment for shovel and probe. Its got a great A-frame carry system that hangs great with skis, making hiking with skis on your back really comfortable.

The best, and good for shorter torsos

Black Diamond Outlaw Avalung Pack - 1831-1939cu in

Black Diamond Outlaw Avalung Pack - 1831-1939cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 4, 2011

This is such an awesome pack, especially for all day tours. The easy access panel on your back makes it super quick to find whatever you need, and the separate compartment for your shovel and probe keeps those handy when you need them immediately. Buckles on the outside make for a nice, fast place to clip your coat on so you don't take up room on the interior, though the pack can fit a big coat and has plenty of room for whatever you need for a full day without feeling bulky.

It also fits well on people with short torsos- better than another BD pack, the Agent, which can feel a bit too long.

Great but small

Black Diamond Bandit Winter Pack - 690cu in

Black Diamond Bandit Winter Pack - 690cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 4, 2011

This is a great pack for inbounds skiing and quick sidecountry tours. You barely notice it, and you can also buy it Avalung-compatible, which is a great option if you'll be in and out of bounds. Keep in mind its pretty small, and if you have a water bottle, snacks, and an extra layer, it's pretty full and a fully insulated coat doesnt fit inside very well- I usually have to rig it on the outside. Other than that, it's got all you need.

hard-chargers

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 14, 2011

The Zealots are awesome for a hard-charging ski, for fast gnarly lines in variable conditions. They're great in-bound skis if it's not pow (although they hold their own in powder and are still fun in crud), they shine when you still want to go shred but don't want to take pow skis. Because of this, they are my go-to skis for firmer snow. The metal sandwich construction is a big addition for Black Diamond, and makes for a really smooth, firm, stable, but responsive ski, while the early rise tip also makes it versatile for soft conditions.

Pow-tastic

Black Diamond Megawatt Ski

Black Diamond Megawatt Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 14, 2011

Best fat skis I've ever skied on. They make any pow day seem bottomless- they cruise, float, bounce, and you never feel bogged down or like you have to muscle them. I found with the previous model of Megawatts (the blue ones) the tip would sometimes track away, and the radius was a little too big for tighter tree skiing or if you had to snap off a quick turn for whatever reason. Black Diamond is really getting their game dialed with their big mountain skis- and it shows in the improvement from last years Megawatt to this years Megawatt. It went from good to awesome. The newer model is way more responsive on firm snow as well, and the improved tip makes it so the tip doesn't flap around on firm conditions, despite the early rise.

best all-around out there

Black Diamond AMPerage Ski

Black Diamond AMPerage Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 14, 2011

The Amp is like the s7 on steroids. Super fun and playful, good for messing around in pow and doing tricks, but also stable and responsive, for when you're skiing a hard-charging line and you need a ski to respond at the exact second you ask it to. They float really well and are great on pow days, but their playfulness and stability also make them my favorite skis for crud as well. They perform great on virtually everything except for super firm, icy conditions.

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 September 9, 2011

These are my go-to goggles. They've got great coverage and fit snug in helmets. The lense-change system literally takes less than 20 seconds overall and is super simple so you don't smudge up your lenses trying to switch them. I never used to change lenses until I owned these goggles, but it makes a huge difference being able to swap out quickly whenever the light changes.
