  • Stomping Grounds:

All over Arizona and western New Mexico, from desert to alpine peaks
  • Bio:

I fell in love with the desert and moved here in 2004. I have no regrets as I have National Forests a few miles from my home. The dogs and I can frolic to our hearts' content without worrying about forest rangers harassing us. I hike, backpack, camp and travel all over the Southwest when I can.

Very comfy!

Kayland Contact Rev Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2011

These boots ride high over the ankle and they are stiff at first. You'd think the stiffness and the high cut would be uncomfortable, but no! I took these on a steep hike near Tucson today and my feet were comfortable going up as well as going down the trail. The eVent material also kept my feet from oversweating. No blisters and no toes pressing against the toebox. I am impressed.

A great daypack

Deuter DS Hike 20 Backpack - 1120cu in

Deuter DS Hike 20 Backpack - 1120cu in

Rating for this product: 5 June 8, 2010

This is a wonderful daypack. The side pockets are large enough for my aluminum liter water bottles without them falling out. The outer material is stitched with reflective seams that help in low-light conditions.

The narrow pack designs prevents the pack from swaying against one's arms while hiking.

The back panel has the trademarked "deuter aircomfort" mesh that truly keeps the pack away from your back so that your back can ventilate better. the hip belt is nicely padded and both the belt and the shoulder straps are easily adjusted for that personal fit. The overflap has a small pocket large enough for keys, wallet or a small snack. Inside the main compartment is a rainproof zippered pocket for more important documents or hiking stuff.

All the essentials fit into this pack: a jacket, perhaps a blancket and emergency gear and plenty of food to hold one over for the day.

A great cooking set!

GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Soloist Cookset

GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Soloist Cookset

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2010

I used this set this past Memorial Day weekend. What a great little lightweight set! My Brunton stove and fuel container along with the spoon all fit inside the pan and carrying case. This is an "A" for me who is so space-conscious.

Even he liked my set and was jealous. Lucky me.
The handle didn't get hot while the gas was on. My husband's old set requires a separate holder which is a pain to carry.

Great for women, too

Arc'teryx Rampart Long Short - Men's

Arc'teryx Rampart Long Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2010

I am a woman who wears anywhere from size 6-10 shorts. I ordered these in Men's 30-32 and it's a perfect fit! I prefer most men's shorts because they are longer, have deeper pockets, and allow for some modesty. With my medium 5'7" frame these shorts are about two inches above my knees. This way while hiking up steep rocks I don't have to worry about my hiking partners "stealing a view" up my legs. The light material is very comfortable and keeps me dry. I will order more!

Kayland Convert Backpacking Boot - Women's

May 22, 2010

Why not keep both? It's always good to have a second pair of reliable walking gear handy. This way if one pair gets wet, you always have a back-up.

Not true to size

Columbia Daska Pass Omni-Tech Hiking Boot - Women's

Columbia Daska Pass Omni-Tech Hiking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 22, 2010

This is a well-made, beautiful boot. I wear a size 8 women's but when I tried these on my feet barely fit! It was a snug and tight feel all around. I had to return these. What a shame as these boots offer excellent arch and ankle support for those of us who need it.

Ugly but warm in cream color

Stoic Luft Down Insulated Sweater - Women's

Stoic Luft Down Insulated Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 May 22, 2010

I ordered the cream jacket and as soon as I opened the bag and held up the jacket my husband said "That thing is ugly!" You can see the white and brown feathers through this nearly sheen outer material. It is very warm and light though. However, when I put it on I noticed a small rip near my lower right pocket and small feathers were coming out. What a shame as this jacket, although quite ugly, is a very lightweight and warm jacket ideal for backpacking trips. But if the material rips easily your purchase isn't worth it, right? I may suggest you get a thicker material for a down jacket you feel comfortable wearing in public.
