My Lightweight Down Puffy wasn't the same

Nikwax Down Proof Solution

Nikwax Down Proof Solution

Rating for this product: 3 January 18, 2011

First off - let me just say that it does add water repellency to the down jacket. But this comes at a cost I wasn't willing to live with. I have a lightweight North Face Thunder jacket and after i put it through a treatment with this stuff (following instructions to the 't') it seemed like my jacket had a thick, dirty, greasy film on it. This product probably works well with more inudstrial down products but I would not recommend on light weight puffies like TNF Thunder or Mont Bell jackets. I re-washed with normal down-wash and that seemed to clean up the jacket a little but there is still a slightly dull sheen to the jacket that wasn't there before. The loft was also slightly effected. It still lofts but not as much. I guess waterproofing comes at a price when it comes to down. This is the only Nikwax product I cannot recommend. All of their other stuff works wonders though.

My new favorite pullover!

The North Face TKA 100 Texture Lone Pine 1/4-Zip Top - Men's

The North Face TKA 100 Texture Lone Pine 1/4-Zip Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

I excahnged the TKA 100 Microvelour for this and i made the right decision. This has just the perfect balance of comfort, an athletic fit and awesomeness. This makes for an awesome mid-layer and the fit makes it look great with a pair of jeans for casual wear as well. I get loads of compliments with this fleece. It runs true to size which is nice. The Micorvelour seemed to run large.

Good pant - potential for weird fit.

Stoic Bombshell Insulated Ski Pant - Women's

Stoic Bombshell Insulated Ski Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

I got these for my wife. she's 5'9" 140 and I got her the Large thinking it would give her plenty of room to spare. Not so. It was very form fitting. She wanted a little more room so we exchanged for an XL but the XL seemed like a three size increase from Large and made her look really weird (aka plump... she said it, not me). We went back to the Large and will try those out. They have been out for one day and they did very well in the warmth and waterproofing dept while being very light.

TRRROOOONNNNN!!!!

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

Awesome Shell. I would have agree with a previous reviewer that I wish the collar stood up more but it is what it is, also the pit zips aren't mesh-backed like advertised... oh well. I love it anyway. The fabric is thin, light, and semi-stretchy and the water beads off it like nobody's business. And I like to pretend I'm in a light cycle race from tron with my back and orange jacket. Lots of compliments on this jacket. Great design, David Blackwell!

Great baselayer

Marmot Midweight Bottom - Men's

Marmot Midweight Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

It took some getting used to just wearing this baselayer under my shell pants but they do great under a non-insulated shell even on cold days. I'm 6'3" 200 and a Large fits pretty well. They are pretty snug and skit tight which is good.

Warm and Dry!

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

I wore this along with a Stoic Bombshell Shell on a 20 degree shade day at the bird and it kept me comfortable all day. I wasn't toasty warm on the lifts but it was perfect for when I was active and going down the mountain. After getting loads of powder under my shell I thought i would freeze the rest of the day because it melted onto the sweater. not so... it kept me completely dry. I love the thumb loops too. Its makes layering and putting on gloves very easy. I washed this using NikWax wool wash in a top loading washer and dried it out in the drier on low and it had minimal shrinkage (thats what she...). Look forward to using this for years to come. Great job, Stoic.

Love them

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

I'm 6'3" 200 and the Large fit perfect. I thought they would be a little more form fitting but when they say its a free fit, they mean it. I have spent some days on the mountain as well as snowblowing with these and they perform well. I'm sure with an application of NikWax every year or two these will last me a long time. One gripe: I was snowblowing and every now and then I will give the blower a little extra umph by pushing it along with my thighs. After doing this I noticedthe area I would use to push with my thighs wetting out really fast. I let them dry and took them skiing the next week and again, they wet out where I was pushing. After an application of Nikwax tx-direct spray on (I had to use two coats where the issue was) I didn't have it wet-out again. Keep in mind this was only after one snowblowing. So I guess the DWR isn't so durable after all. Anyway - I still love em... great buy for the money.

Mountain Hardwear Power Stretch Balaclava

Mountain Hardwear Power Stretch Balaclava

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

This is a great warm balaclava. However, the more I thought about it, the more I figured I really didn't need something THIS warm. I'm a 10-20 day a year snowboarder and I figured it would be nice to have something to bundle up with at the Bird when the winds get nasty going up Little Cloud but I saw this getting very hot in a hurry when I got active again. I wore this under my Smith Variant Brim Helmet which is already insulated and addding this was just too much. I'm going to go for a much thinner clava.

Comfy and supportive

Chaco Flip EcoTread Sandal - Women's

Chaco Flip EcoTread Sandal - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

I got these for my wife and she loves them. She finally has a flip flop that will not cause her feet to hurt after walking and standing around in the all day. This is due to the arch and heel support the flip flop provides. She wears a size 8-8.5 and these are true to size. I got her a size 8... her feet go right up to the edges and almost look too small but she says they fit perfect. To each their own I guee. I just hope she doesn't get any stubbed toes.

Great athletic fit!

The North Face TKA 100 Texture Masonic Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face TKA 100 Texture Masonic Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2011

I got this for my wife. She is 5'9" and 140 and a Medium fit her just the way she likes. It is on the side of a form fitting fitting athletic fit which she loves. The thumb loops and hood have will serve their purpose in due time but for the jacket is perfect for her needs of wearing this casually while having a warm baselayer on the coldest of days.
